âYuji, if you are going to throw me, say so first.â
âSorryâŠâ
âAh, over there. Thereâs a monster.â
âGot it. Weâll go around it then.â
I listened to the protestations of the slime who had been thrown as a substitute for a spy satellite, as we walked towards the town. As I had no MP, I took the advice of the slimes in order to find a route that would keep us away from the monster.
The slimes had seemed so unreliable at first, but they were really quite useful.
â
And then an hour passed.
We had safely arrived in the town.
ââŠI see. So this is what this world is likeâŠâ
I said while looking at the town.
The scene that spread out before me was that of a fantasy game. In other words, a medieval town.
âFastanâ was written on the gate, so that was likely the townâs name.
However, if I were to point out one crucial difference from games, it would beâŠhow realistic it all was.
The small details of the scenery were often ignored in games, but there were no compromises here.
Well, whether this was a dream or reality, I didnât know. But it certainly was not a game.
âOh. Youâre wearing awfully strange clothes⊠Is this your first time in Fastan?â
As I stood near the entrance to the town, a voice called out to me.
It was a man who looked quite young.
His appearanceâŠwell, he had the air of an Adventurer, the ones you see in games.
âYeah. My first time. I just arrived, actually.â
âJust arrived? âŠI am surprised you were able to come here safely at such a time⊠Oh, I havenât introduced myself yet. Iâm Gale. Iâm a swordsman.â
âIâm Yuki. My occupation isâŠa Tamer.â
I answered.
Apparently, it was also Sage, but it seemed strange to bring both up.
âA Tamer⊠Seeing as you came here alone, are you also an Adventurer?â
âNoâŠI donât think so.â
I wasnât sure for a second but decided to say no.
I hadnât even known there was such a system in this world.
Maybe I could become an Adventurer by registering, but we were talking about the present.
âYou donât thinkâŠuh, in any case, if youâre not an Adventurer, you shouldnât leave town again today.â
ââŠIs that right?â
âYes. Monsters in the area have become much more active recently. Monsters with ridiculous strength that you wouldnât usually see have started to appear⊠It was especially dangerous out there today. Weâre gathering the best Adventurers together now in order to protect the town⊠But we canât protect anyone who decides to leave.â
Gale said as he looked towards the forest.
It seemed like I was very lucky to be able to reach this town today.
Well, though I did have that encounter with a dragon.
But there was one other thing that was bothering me.
âThanks for the warning. By the wayâŠwould I be able to become an Adventurer too?â
While I had not been able to bear the magic depletion from Hellfire of Death, I was still able to use magic and had skills as a tamer.
Being an Adventurer seemed like a better option than trying to find other work in a different world where I had no connections.
And so I had asked the questionâŠbut his reaction was mixed.
âAn Adventurer, huhâŠthere is a test. So you can become one if you pass it. But it requires a lot of physical strength, and youâre a Tamer, soâŠâ
He said with a hard look on his face.
Apparently, it was the âTamerâ part he was struggling with.
âSo Tamers wonât be able to do it?â
ââŠItâs hard for me to say this, but to be honest, yes. Being an Adventurer will be hard if you donât have a job that involves weapons or magicâŠâ
I see. So I had to be able to use magic or weapons.
Well, I could use some magicâŠ
âAlright, but what if I was a Sage and not a Tamer?â
âSage? âŠIâve never heard of that job. Well, Iâve never heard of an Adventurer Sage, in any case.â
I see. So it wasnât a very well known job.
âŠWell, he seemed busy. So I should just leave it at that.
âThank you for the advice. I think Iâll just try taking this test.â
âAye. Iâll pray for your success.â
Gale said before running off somewhere.
An Adventurer testâŠ
I was actually looking forward to it.
âUhhâŠguild, guildâŠâ
Luckily, I seemed to be able to read the letters used in this world.
There were âAdventurerâs Guildâ signs all over the town, and so I carried the slime on my shoulder and followed the signs.
And so I was able to find the guild without getting lost.
As for the guild, well, it was the kind of building you would expect.
There was nothing else to say. Yes. It was a guild house.
As the doors were already opened, I decided to go inside.
ââŠThat must be it.â
There were several counters inside.
And one of them read âAdventurerâs Guild Registration Test,â and so I stood in front of it.
âDo you wish to take the registration test?â
And then the lady at the counter who had been working, stood up and approached me.
Her name tag read, âLilly.â
âYes. I came to take the test.â
âVery well. Please fill out this form.â
So saying, she handed me a sheet of paper.
âAdventurerâs Guild Registration Test Application Formâ it read.
I felt like I was at the city office.
And so I filled out the form with my name and age etcetera.
ââŠJob, huh.â
It was multiple choice, with options such as âSingle-handed Fighter,â âDouble-handed Fighter,â and âSorcerer.â
There was none for Sage.
And so I chose Tamer.
It was also necessary to write down your magicâs attribute if you could use magic, and so I checked my status to see what it was.
âUhhhâŠlight, shadow, fire, water, earth, lightning, wind, time-space, special magic, great magic, familiar magic, support magic, altering magicâŠoh.â
The last one didnât quite fit within the box.
I had tried to write in as small a hand as possible, but the box was too small.
That was the last of the items to fill in, and so I handed the sheet back to Miss Lilly.
âI filled it out.â
âThank you. Let me check it to make sure.â
So saying, she scanned the application formâŠher expression suggested she found it amusing.
And thenâshe thrust it back at me.
âYou shouldnât write lies. They will find out during the test, anyway. âŠOh, and what even is âgreat magicâ and âspecial magicâ or âtime-space magicâ? There are no such attributes.â
But it was written on my statusâŠ
Oh well, I guess I could just erase those.
âAlright, what about now?â
I said as I submitted the form again.
This time it only included light, shadow, fire, water, earth, lightning and wind attributes.
Miss Lilly looked at it and sighedâŠ
âI will accept it if you insist⊠But really, I hope you understand that nothing good will come from lying?â
She said.
I just copied what was written in my statusâŠoh.
What if she was referring to the fact that I was hiding my second job?
âI understand. I will change it then. That will be my final answer.â
I said as I added âSageâ to my job and submitted it again.
HoweverâŠher reaction was not promising.
ââŠPlease do not add silly words to the job section. I will have to erase it before I can proceed.â
Miss Lilly said in defeat as she erased the word âSageâ from my form and then dropped it on her desk with her other documents.
Then she opened her mouth.
âNow, that will be 150,000 cicols for the examination fee.â
âŠAh.
âDo I have to pay that fee?â
âYes, you do⊠Did you really not know about it?â
Miss Lilly asked with a look of amazement.
But the thing was, I only just arrived in this world today.
Actually, I was still not even sure if this was a dream or another world.
In any case, I had to pay the fee somehowâthatâs right!
âCan I sell monsters even if Iâm not registered at the guild?â
