âHere is the 2,000 kilos. âŠAnd you think that small slime can carry all of it?â
The butcher said as he looked at me with an expression that was full of skepticism.
There was a mountain of wolf monster meat in front of us.
âŠI had assumed that it would still be in the shape of a monster, but it had all been cut up and divided.
That must have taken a while.
âStore it. âŠAnd donât eat any of it, okay? Iâm going to check if the amount is the same later on.â
âOkay!â
So saying, the slime put all of the meat into storage.
If they did eat it, the other slimes would notice immediately and get angry, so it was unlikely that they would try.
As the slimes started to monitor each other, there were fewer instances of the slimes tasting the food.
But, then againâŠwhen the food was just too delicious or there wasnât enough of it, they would sometimes start a battle without honor.
âHuh? âŠWhere did the meat go?â
The butcher looked shocked as he saw the meat disappear.
Yeah, âSlime Storageâ really was a skill that was hard to understandâŠ
I was the one using it and I didnât get it either.
How do these tiny slimes carry several tons of stuff inside of them?
âI had the slimes store it. I donât know how they do it.â
ââŠYou donât know howâŠbut it still worksâŠ?â
âYeah.â
I answered. And then I decided to have the slime spit it out again.
âOkay, can you take the meat out for a bit?â
And just like that, the meat they had stored came out again.
Yes. They had stored it without eating any of it.
âIt-it really didâŠâ
âWell, thatâs how it is. âŠThank you. This is some good food.â
âUh, yes⊠Thank you too!â
NowâŠ
âWhile I was able to buy the meatâŠthe problem is, how do I send it?â
âMeat!â
âGive me some too!â
While I had secured some food, I hadnât solved the problem of transportation yet.
As the slimes took shifts, I would have to have them carry the food when they traded places.
However, if I sent the Proud Wolf, I wouldnât be able to use him in an emergency.
In that caseâŠ
âI suppose Iâll have to tame a monster for a transporter.â
Currently, I was completely reliant on the Proud Wolf for transportation.
If only I had another Proud WolfâŠbut they seemed to be quite rare.
On the other hand, there were plenty of monsters with four legs that were quick on their feet. But it was surprisingly difficult to catch them so you can tame them.
Being a Tamer didnât mean you could just go around taming everything in sight.
First, you had to be able to communicate with them.
If it werenât for that, I would have caught and tamed a dragon by now.
âA transporter⊠Do-do you mean Iâm fired!?â
Upon hearing that I was hiring again, the Proud Wolf let out a pained cry.
âŠBut I had no intention of firing him.
âNo. Iâm just thinking about bringing another one in. âŠI think youâll have to carry the food this time, but if I want to keep the surveillance network up, youâll want some help. Wonât you?â
âNo-now that you mention it. Thatâs trueâŠ!â
âAnd so it would be nice to have another Proud Wolf with us⊠Uh, do you have any friends?â
âI donât have any. Weâre all lone wolves. I donât even know where any of them are.â
âŠI see.
So he was a lone wolfâŠ
He didnât really seem like that kind of wolf.
At his worst, he would hide behind the slimes when strong monsters appeared.
âWell, I guess itâll have to be a different monster then. âŠAnd if Iâm going to catch something new, I think it might as well be a flying monster.â
A flying monster would likely be faster and more suited to reconnaissance work.
Yes, if I was going to go through the trouble of taming a new monster, it would be best to get a flying one.
âI agree! If we have someone scouting from above, we wonât get attacked by any strong monsters!â
ââŠUh, yeah. Now, letâs go and look for one.â
And with that, I headed for the guild.
There might be quests for hunting a flying monster. Then I could just go to the location to find one.
âŠAs for whether or not I could really tame it, I wouldnât know until I tried.
