ButâŠif it managed to cross the next river, then it would be able to reach the town.
This was no time to watch it quietly.
âNoâŠThis time, we move! Weâre going to stop that Fire Dragon!â
âBut the river wasnât enough. How are you going to stop it!?â
âItâs impossible!â
âWeâll be evaporated!â
The Proud Wold and slimes were not optimistic.
But-I didnât intend on facing the Fire Dragon head-on.
âIâm going to make a barrier upstream and stop the flow of water! And then just as the Fire Dragon approaches, Iâll bring it down!â
This river was in a ravine.
In other words, stopping the water wouldnât cause a flood. It would just fill up the ravine.
So I just needed to make a temporary dam that I could destroy when the dragon came near.
âYouâre going to stop the river!?â
âYeah. âŠThen you wonât have to get close to the Fire Dragon.â
âThatâs true!â
ââŠThatâs amazing! How did you think of such a plan!?â
The Proud Wolf and slimes said as they descended to the bottom of the ravine.
As they were monsters, they did not hesitate when going down the cliffs.
âAround here!?â
âNo, go more upstream. Thereâs no point in creating a damn if you are downstream of the Fire Dragon!â
âUnderstood!â
After the slimes moved away from the river, I started to block the flow of water.
âMagic TransferâAnti-physical Barrier!â
The barrier came up just as I finished chanting, and the riverâs flow was stopped.
Eventually, the water downriver went awayâŠas the water behind the barrier built up.
ââŠOne barrier might not be enough.â
I muttered as I watched the scene through Shared Senses.
The barrier was starting to creak as the water behind it rose.
The pressure being applied was incredible.
I decided to add a few layers as a precaution.
âMagic TransferâAnti-physical Barrier!â
After that, the creaking stopped.
If I wanted to be absolutely sure it wouldnât break, I could use the Suppression Isolation Barrier. But that used so much MP and would have been overkill.
ââŠItâs coming!â
As we waited, the Fire Dragon approached the river.
It seemed like most of the energy it had lost had now recovered. And it had returned to its normal pace.
âNot yet. Wait a little more.â
There was no point in doing this unless we waited for the right moment when the Fire Dragon passed us.
I looked at the location of the river and the speed of the dragon through Shared Senses.
And thenâ
âDeactivate!â
I deactivated the barrier just as the Fire Dragon came close to the river.
All of the water that had been stored up now came crashing down with a thunderous roar.
The trees that were growing near the riverâs edge were swept away.
And yet the Fire Dragon seemed to barely notice as it rushed on ahead.
There was no water where it was walking.
The ravine was quite deepâŠbut the Fire Dragon was able to jump down without injuring itself.
âGAAAAARRGRGGHH!!â
The fire dragon roared as it began to climb up the cliffs to reach the other side.
It was just thenâthat the muddy rush of water slammed into it.
