Chapter 1 – Request from Enami-san\nVolume 2\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\n\n\n
We arrived at a cafe in front of the station. It was a private store, not a chain.\n\n
There was an empty round table made of mahogany. The three of us sat down at the table. Jazz music was playing in the restaurant. I don’t know what it’s called.\n\n
“We don’t come here very often, do we?”\n
“At least, it’s my first time.”\n\n
I looked at the menu and ordered a blended coffee. Enami-san and Nishikawa ordered cappuccinos.\n\n
“The atmosphere is not bad.”\n
Enami-san seemed to like it. After a few minutes, the drinks we ordered were brought to our table. After taking a sip, I said, \n\n
“So, why don’t you tell me what you need from me?”\n
The restaurant was quiet, probably because many customers came alone. Some customers came in in groups of several and had conversations, but no one was making a loud noise.\n
Enami-san and Nishikawa looked at each other.\n\n
“So, Naocchi. You can cook, right?”\n
It was an unexpected turn of events. I thought she was going to talk about her studies.\n
“I cook every day. Not sure whether I’m good or not, I’m at least decent at it.”\n
“And you can do all the housework, right?”\n
“I also clean and do laundry every day, why does that matter?”\n\n
I couldn’t understand where she was going from earlier. It also bothered me that Enami-san didn’t seem to open her mouth much. She was frequently bringing the cup to her mouth.\n
Nishikawa looked at Enami-san’s face.\n
“

 All right”\n
After placing the cup on the saucer, Enami-san looked up. She was unusually stagnant in her speech. She moved only her eyes to the left and right.\n\n
“I need a favor.\n
I was surprised. I had never imagined that the day would come when I would be asked a favor by Enami-san. But what would it be about? I can’t imagine.\n
Enami-san’s face was serious. Her cheeks scrunched up.\n\n
“Just for a week. Can you clean my house and cook for me?”\n
I think I heard her wrong.\n
“Sorry, repeat that. I didn’t quite hear you.”\n
“Like I said, can you clean my place and cook for me?”\n\n
The repetition did not change the content. My hands were shaking. I poured coffee down my throat to calm down, but it didn’t help my agitation at all.\n\n
“Home? You’re not talking about Enami-san’s house, are you?”\n
“Yes I am”\n
“You’re not asking me to come into your house and clean and cook for you, are you?”\n
“That’s what I’ve been saying. You’re not getting it.”\n\n
It’s not that I don’t understand the meaning of Enami-san’s words. It’s just that my brain is refusing to understand. It’s just too sudden and I’m confused.\n\n
Nishikawa asked.\n
“Have you ever been to Risa-chan’s house, Naocchi?\n
I shook my head. There’s no way I have. I don’t even know where it is.\n
“You know,” Nishikawa said after a sigh. \n
“Risa-chan’s house is quite dirty, to say the least. It’s not a dump, but it’s so messy that there’s nowhere to put your feet. Dust is flying around when you move just a little bit, and the areas of water are covered with mold. We want to clean it all at once, but we don’t have the manpower.”\n
“Eh? It’s that dirty? Isn’t it dangerous? I think you should hire a contractor.”\n
But Nishikawa waved her hand to the side, saying, “No!”\n
“It’s expensive to hire a contractor. And there are other factors, so we don’t want to do that. That’s why me, Naocchi, and Risa-chan should  work really hard to clean it.”\n
“I don’t get it.

”\n\n
I don’t know why I have to help, or why they suddenly feel the need to clean.\n
Enami-san said.\n
“As expected, it’s troublesome right? I’m sorry.”\n
She looked unusually dejected. By the way, she was late this morning. I wondered if it was related to that.\n
“Is it true that you don’t want to hire a contractor because it’s expensive?”\n
“

”\n\n
When I say it’s expensive, it doesn’t mean it costs hundreds of thousands of yen. I don’t know Enami-san’s family situation. But even if she is in that much trouble, I don’t think it’s an amount of money she can’t afford.\n
So that was what stuck out to me the most. Why would she want to go to the trouble of using all of us to do the cleaning?\n
Enami-san closed her eyes at my words. She didn’t open her mouth. The cappuccino on the table was already half gone.\n
“I shouldn’t have hidden it. I stand corrected.”\n
She twirled the spoon in the cup.\n\n
“You’re right, it’s not because we don’t have money that we don’t hire a contractor. We’re not that poor. It’s just that I simply don’t like having people in my house.”\n
“I’m a person too, you know.”\n
I wonder if it was a silly attempt at humor. Enami-san’s brow wrinkled.\n\n
“That’s not the point. Contractors are just people you pay. They are just strangers. I just don’t want to let someone I don’t trust into my house.”\n
Does this mean that she thinks me and Nishikawa are worthy of her trust? I didn’t think she trusted me that much, let alone Nishikawa.\n
“Why do you hate it so much?”\n\n
Maybe I shouldn’t ask. But if I went to the house, I would find out the reason why she didn’t want me to come home.\n
Enami-san seemed to understand this. She looked very uncomfortable.\n\n
“–I don’t want people to see my mother.”\n\n
