Chapter 4 – Reunion With an Old Friend \nVolume 1\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\n\n\n
Saturday afternoon. Sayaka came up to me and said she wanted to go out.\n
“I have a game I want to buy, so I’m going out.”\n
“Whoa, whoa, wait a minute.”\n
There were too many things to complain about, like why she was buying a game before the midterm test, or why she was going out despite my advice not to go out. Just as I was about to complain, Sayaka waved her hand in front of her face.\n
“I was just kidding. In fact, there are some reference books I want to buy. Can I go out?”\n
“Wait a minute.”\n
I open the refrigerator door and check what’s inside. What should I make for dinner tonight? I still have potatoes, carrots, and cucumbers. But I’m out of mayonnaise and eggs. If I want to make potato salad, I need to go shopping.\n
“I want to buy some things, too. Let’s go together.”\n
“Eh? I just want to buy a book.”\n
“It’s good for once in a while. Let’s go to the nearby shopping mall.”\n
Reluctantly, Sayaka nodded.\n\n\n\nSo, I and Sayaka decided to go out together. My preparations were done quickly, but apparently not so fast for Sayaka. I waited at the entrance for a while, and eventually, Sayaka came down the stairs.\n
”Thanks for waiting.”\n
“Ah ……”\n
I was a little surprised when I saw her.\n
Her appearance had completely changed to that of an outgoing person.\n
She untied her hair, which she had put in a bun because it was easier to move around with, and let it fall straight down to her shoulders. A white hair clip next to her bangs. She took off the tacky sweatshirt that she uses around the house and put on a high-waisted red flared skirt and a white knit top.\n
“…… shitty brother. Can you stop staring at me?”\n
I didn’t take offense and just let my eyes take in the sight of Sayaka.\n
“What?”\n
“No, you’ll be cute if you do it right.”\n
“What? You’re disgusting.”\n
After saying that, she took out a pair of black short boots from the shoe box, which she doesn’t usually use. What? Didn’t she say that they don’t fit her feet well?\n
“Now what?”\n
“You’re all dressed up.”\n
“Shut up. Secret geeks have to be careful about their appearance. I’m not like my shitty brother.”\n
“Okay, okay.”\n
As we were talking about this, my father came up to me, rubbing his sleepy eyes. Apparently, we had woken him up by talking.\n
“Huh? Are you guys going out somewhere?”\n
I replied.\n
“We’re going shopping. We’ll probably be back in an hour or so. Can we have lunch after?”\n
“Yeah, good work. I’m going to get some sleep.”\n
“Okay.”\n
So my father returned to the Japanese-style room in his pajamas. My father always sleeps until noon on his days off. I was amazed at how he could sleep so well.\n
“Shall we go then?”\n\n
Sayaka nodded her head. We walked out the front door together.\n\n
The shopping mall was about a ten-minute walk away.\n
As we passed through the entrance, Sayaka rubbed her heels and said, \n
“I really feel like my feet hurt in these. I should have worn my usual ones.”\n
“Are you okay? Should we rest somewhere?”\n
” ……. it’s fine. Let’s get it quickly and go home.”\n
Leaving me to worry about her she continued on her way. If she said she was fine, I had no choice. I followed suit.\n
First, we stopped by a bookstore. It seems that what Sayaka wants is an English reference book.\n
[Hey, pick out which one is best for me.”\n
She told me as soon as we reached the reference book section.\n
“I don’t know which one you want. What kind of reference book do you want?”\n
“One that focuses on grammar, I guess. I’ve been learning about relative pronouns lately, but I can’t really understand them from the textbook.”\n
“I think this book would be good for that.”\n
I found a reference book that I had also used, so I picked it up. It was easy to understand and had plenty of practice questions. I remember it was good value for money.\n
“Okay. I’ll take this one. My shitty brother can be helpful when he needs to be.”\n
She should have just said thank you honestly. Sayaka took the book to the cashier and bought it.\n
“So, will you accompany me shopping this time?”\n
“…… I’m done with my business, I want to go home.”\n
“I want to ask you what you want to eat while I choose. I’ll buy you a few sweets as well.”\n
“Can’t help it then”\n
I was relieved that she followed me so honestly, though I wondered if she was in elementary school when it came to sweets. We took the escalator down to the basement and put the shopping cart on top of it.\n
“Let’s start with the vegetables.”\n
I looked at what I had written down on my phone. What’s missing is cabbage and spinach.\n
I picked up the cabbages one by one and looked at them. Then, Sayaka suddenly said,\n
“This is probably good, right?”\n
“Eh?”\n
She picked up one of the cabbage at the back of the line. She showed me the cabbage.\n
The core is not too big, not too small, and the leaves and core have beautiful colors.\n
“Oh, come on, how do you know that?”\n
Saika puffed out her chest.\n
“In the otome games and gal games that I play a lot, there are often detailed descriptions of cooking. I naturally remember them.”\n
“I see. Well, let’s try that one.”\n
I put the cabbage that Sako chose into the shopping basket.\n
“Next is spinach. Sayaka, I want you to use your connoisseurship to pick it out for me.”\n
”Yes, yes.”\n
Quickly, Sayaka runs to the spinach corner.\n
After comparing and examining the spinach for a while, she came back to me.\n
“I’ll take this one.”\n
“‘Wow, what’s with the heart?”\n
“First of all, the roots are bright pink, the leaves are a darker color both front and back, and the stems are strong.”\n
“Okay, I’ll take that one.”\n
“By the way, this is what Alan said in the game ‘Love Princess Hour’ when the main characters came back to Japan from another world and went shopping for the first time.”\n
“I didn’t quite catch that part. But well done.”\n
“Hmm.”\n\n
My sister seems to be good at it. It’s fun to show off the knowledge you’ve gained from your hobby. I could understand that feeling.\n\n
