Chapter 3 â Interacting With Enami-san\nVolume 1\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\nâPeaceful.\n\n
Thatâs what I was thinking as I listened to the last class of the day. I fiddled with the eraser in my left hand and looked at the modern literature teacher who was going through the class without a hitch. He was an old teacher with no intonation in his voice. The students, who were not very motivated, were already in a deep sleep.\n
I stopped the pen I was using to copy the notes on the board and looked back at the dayâs events.\n
First of all, my homeroom teacher, Shiroyama-sensei, didnât have a class today. So there was no one to aim at Enami-san. Also, during the lunch break, I ate lunch with Saito and Shindo just like yesterday, but Enami-san didnât talk to me.\n
\nAnd now.\n
The class will be over in about three minutes. And after this class, it was after-school time. As it was a week before the test, most of the club activities would be suspended. All that was left was to go home.\n
The chime sounded just as the long hand slowly approached the top of the scale and coincided with the number 12. The air in the classroom suddenly relaxed. A signal was given, and soon the class was over.\n
I was glad. Itâs hard to keep up with the intensity of the day like yesterday every day.\n\n
âClass is finally over! See you later, Ookusu.â\n
For some reason, Saito and Shindo were about to leave the classroom without me. Even though we always went home together.\n
âHey, wait a minute.â\n
âWhat?â\n
Saito looked surprised.\n
âWhy are you leaving me alone today?â\n
âEh? No, because. you know right âŠâŠ.â\n
He and Shindo looked at each other. And their gaze eventually went to the back of the classroom.\n
Naturally, it was Enami-san who was there. Enami-san was quickly putting away her textbooks and was about to leave the classroom.\n
âWeâre in your way, arenât we?â\n
âWa?â\n
âYesterday, you guys went home together for some reason right?. I have no idea what happened, but good luck.â\n
âWait, wait, wait.â\n
I rushed over to them. I grabbed them both by the shoulders and whispered to them.\n
âYouâre abandoning me. After all, Iâve hardly been involved with Enami-san today, have I? Yesterday was just a coincidence. We have no plans to go home together.â\n
âHmm.â\n
What do you think?ăSaito asked Shindo. Shindo shrugged his shoulders.\n
âNo, no. Weâre friends, right?ăI think youâre being too cold.â\n
âOkay, letâs do this way.â\n
Shindo said as he removed my hand.\n
âLetâs just go to the main gate. And if Enami-san is there, as she was yesterday, weâll go quickly. If sheâs not, weâll just go home together.â\n
âI donât think sheâll be there.â\n
There was no sign of Enami-san in the classroom. She must have left quickly.\n
âAre you sure?â\n
âOf course I am. Thereâs no way Iâm going to be ambushed two days in a row.â\n
âYouâre right, normally thatâs true..â\n
Thatâs right. Thatâs not possible.\n
We lined up and headed for the front gate.\n\n
ââŠâŠâ\n
When I got close to the main gate, I couldnât believe my eyes when I saw the scene. This is crazy. It couldnât be. I had just thought that I had regained my peace.\n
I rubbed my eyelids. But there was no change in my vision.\n
Enami-san was standing there, just like yesterday. Her arms are folded, and sheâs looking up at the sky, looking bored.\n
Well, wait. That doesnât mean sheâs waiting for me. Itâs more likely that sheâs not. Sheâs probably meeting up with Nishikawa. That must be it.\n
Enami-san is a famous person in the school. Unlike yesterday, there were a lot of people, so she was attracting a lot of attention.\n
âOokusu. Why donât you give up and go home together?â\n
Shindo said as if he didnât care.\n
âHahahaha. Thereâs no way sheâs waiting for me.â\n\n
There are so many people here. Even if she was waiting for me, I might be able to blend in with the crowd and get through the main gate without being noticed. I walked forward, trying not to look at Enami-san as much as possible.\n
Despite my fears, I succeeded in getting through the main gate. What the hell. I guess she wasnât waiting for me after all.\n\n
As I let out a deep breath, I was tapped on the shoulder.\n
I looked behind me and saw Enami-san there.\n
âThere you are. Letâs go home together.â\n\n
I wanted to hold my head in my hands. No way.\n\n
I also felt a buzz around me. That Enami-san had rushed over to a boy. In a way, it was a revolutionary event.\n
Curious stares pierced through me as well. Honestly, Iâm so embarrassed.\n\n
I wanted to run away, but there were so many people that I didnât think I could. Besides, I feel sorry for myself if I run away. I had no choice but to say something back.\n
âWhy?â\n\n
The same question as yesterday. And Enami-san gave me the same answer.\n
âBecause it seems interesting.â\n\n
Before I knew it, Shindo and Saito had disappeared. They seemed to have fled quickly.\n
They probably didnât even hear our conversation. However, Enami-san was waiting for me and spoke to me as if she was chasing me. Everyone was surprised by this.\n\n
âCome on, letâs go.â\n
Enami-san walks off without waiting for my reply.\n\n
Thereâs no point in ignoring her now and trying to go home alone. I had no choice but to follow Enami-sanâs lead.\n
