Chapter 3 â Interacting With Enami-san\nVolume 1\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\n(TN: There was a block of chapter missing at the end of the last chapter when released yesterday. Itâs updated now. Click here to read it.)\n
My bad premonition came true.\n
As soon as she saw me, Enami-san put away her phone and approached us with a slow gait. I couldnât move. My legs were frozen as if they were sewn together. All I could do was look at Enami-sanâs figure as she walked up to us step by step, and think about what I should do.\n
When she came close to me, she stopped.\n
It was quiet. I couldnât hear the voices of the sports team that I had heard earlier.\n
âYouâre late than I thought.â\n
Those words were directed at me. Her eyes were fixed straight on my face, not looking at Saito or Shindo.\n
ââŠâŠ Enami-san. âŠâŠ?â\n
ââŠâŠ arenât you too flustered?â\n
The tie on my blazer felt tighter than usual.\n
On the other hand, Saito and Shindo seemed relieved that they were not the target. They are blatantly exhaling with relief.\n
I tried my best to squeeze out my voice.\n
âWhat do you want?â\n
âWhat do I want? I just wanted to go home with you.â\n
âWhy âŠâŠ?â\n
âBecause it seems interesting.â\n
After all, this was what she meant when she said, âSee you laterâ. \n
I donât know how my âstuntâ affected Enami-san, but Iâm sure it made her curious about me.\n
âWell, then, weâll leave you to it âŠâŠ.â\n
Saito and Shindo dutifully left the place. Oi!\n
However, they didnât pay attention to my reproachful gaze and walked out of the main gate. Enami-san didnât pay much attention to them either, only glancing sideways to see that Saito and Shindo had disappeared.\n
Iâd like to leave like that, too, but âŠâŠ\n
âSeems interesting, huh?â\n
I canât just walk by and ignore the person in front of me.\n
âThatâs what I meant.â\n
ââŠâŠ How long have you been waiting for me?â\n
As I recall, Enami-san was not in the club activities. So it would be strange if she hadnât left around three oâclock when classes ended.\n
ââAbout an hour.â\n
She had heard that I had club activities, so she probably thought that I wouldnât come out right away. However, it was frightening just to think that that Enami-san had been sticking around in front of the main gate the whole time.\n
âFor an hour?ăWhy âŠâŠ?â\n
âI told you before. Because it looks interesting.â\n
At any rate, all I know is that I canât go on like this. It seems that Enami-san is really starting to take an interest in me. The morning greeting, the eye contact in class, the lunchtime conversation, all seem to be motivated by this interest.\n
I let out a sigh.\n
â âŠâŠ. can you forget about what I said last week? -Somehow, I know that is the reason for this, and Iâm really sorry about that. âŠâŠâ\n
âDidnât I say at lunchtime that I didnât care about that?â\n
âYes, butâŠâ\n
How could you not care? I canât think of any other reason for her to change her mind about me.\n
I wonder what I should do. I want Enami-san to leave this place as soon as possible. But after waiting for an hour, I feel bad about ending the conversation so soon.\n
It was fortunate that there were not many people in front of the main gate at the moment. Thanks to the halfway time, the home-goers have already left the school, and the ones who are doing club activities are still at school.\n
âWhich way is your home?â\n
My secret wish for it to be on the other side was shattered.\n
âThis way.â\n
She pointed in the same direction as me, downhill.\n
Enamiâs face showed no sign of self-consciousness. She looked casual as if she was talking to an old acquaintance.\n
I guess Iâll just have to give up for now. Unfortunately, I donât have the courage to leave Enami-san behind and go home alone. No matter what her goal is, Iâm going to follow Enami-sanâs wishes for now.\n\n
We passed through the main gate and walked downhill together.\n
Naturally, I had no idea what to say to her. I had never had any contact with Enami-san before. I had no idea what kind of things she liked or what she thought about her life. There was no way I could suddenly find myself alone with her and start a conversation.\n
Even though she had asked me to go home with her, Enami-san was reluctant to open up. The atmosphere was awkward.\n
When we were almost at the end of the slope, Enami-san finally said, \n
âDo you think school is fun?\n
I didnât understand her intentions, but I was a little relieved when the silence was broken.\n
âIf I had to choose between fun and not fun, I would say fun. I like the atmosphere of the class.â\n
âReallyâ\n
But there was silence again. Enami-san was asking me questions, but when I answered, her response was dull.\n
âAre you not having much fun, Enami-san?â\n
I think she doesnât think itâs fun, since sheâs always late.\n
ââŠâŠ Not particularly.\n
I donât know if that ânot particularlyâ means something positive or something negative.\n
Enami-san asked me again.\n
âDo you enjoy studying?â\n
âNot particularlyâŠâŠ.â\n
Somehow, I reply with the same words. To be honest, I donât really like studying, I just do it because itâs the easiest thing to do.\n
However, I donât have the confidence to convey such a message. Thatâs why I said, âNot particularlyâ.\n
âHmmmâŠâ\n\n
Enami-san was still giving a lax response.\n\n
