Chapter 3 – Interacting With Enami-san\nVolume 1\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\n(TN: There was a block of chapter missing at the end of the last chapter when released yesterday. It’s updated now. Click here to read it.)\n
My bad premonition came true.\n
As soon as she saw me, Enami-san put away her phone and approached us with a slow gait. I couldn’t move. My legs were frozen as if they were sewn together. All I could do was look at Enami-san’s figure as she walked up to us step by step, and think about what I should do.\n
When she came close to me, she stopped.\n
It was quiet. I couldn’t hear the voices of the sports team that I had heard earlier.\n
“You’re late than I thought.”\n
Those words were directed at me. Her eyes were fixed straight on my face, not looking at Saito or Shindo.\n
“

 Enami-san.

?”\n
“

 aren’t you too flustered?”\n
The tie on my blazer felt tighter than usual.\n
On the other hand, Saito and Shindo seemed relieved that they were not the target. They are blatantly exhaling with relief.\n
I tried my best to squeeze out my voice.\n
“What do you want?”\n
“What do I want? I just wanted to go home with you.”\n
“Why

?”\n
“Because it seems interesting.”\n
After all, this was what she meant when she said, “See you later”. \n
I don’t know how my ‘stunt’ affected Enami-san, but I’m sure it made her curious about me.\n
“Well, then, we’ll leave you to it

.”\n
Saito and Shindo dutifully left the place. Oi!\n
However, they didn’t pay attention to my reproachful gaze and walked out of the main gate. Enami-san didn’t pay much attention to them either, only glancing sideways to see that Saito and Shindo had disappeared.\n
I’d like to leave like that, too, but

\n
“Seems interesting, huh?”\n
I can’t just walk by and ignore the person in front of me.\n
“That’s what I meant.”\n
“

How long have you been waiting for me?”\n
As I recall, Enami-san was not in the club activities. So it would be strange if she hadn’t left around three o’clock when classes ended.\n
“–About an hour.”\n
She had heard that I had club activities, so she probably thought that I wouldn’t come out right away. However, it was frightening just to think that that Enami-san had been sticking around in front of the main gate the whole time.\n
“For an hour? Why

?”\n
“I told you before. Because it looks interesting.”\n
At any rate, all I know is that I can’t go on like this. It seems that Enami-san is really starting to take an interest in me. The morning greeting, the eye contact in class, the lunchtime conversation, all seem to be motivated by this interest.\n
I let out a sigh.\n
“

. can you forget about what I said last week? -Somehow, I know that is the reason for this, and I’m really sorry about that.

”\n
“Didn’t I say at lunchtime that I didn’t care about that?”\n
“Yes, but
”\n
How could you not care? I can’t think of any other reason for her to change her mind about me.\n
I wonder what I should do. I want Enami-san to leave this place as soon as possible. But after waiting for an hour, I feel bad about ending the conversation so soon.\n
It was fortunate that there were not many people in front of the main gate at the moment. Thanks to the halfway time, the home-goers have already left the school, and the ones who are doing club activities are still at school.\n
“Which way is  your home?”\n
My secret wish for it to be on the other side was shattered.\n
“This way.”\n
She pointed in the same direction as me, downhill.\n
Enami’s face showed no sign of self-consciousness. She looked casual as if she was talking to an old acquaintance.\n
I guess I’ll just have to give up for now. Unfortunately, I don’t have the courage to leave Enami-san behind and go home alone. No matter what her goal is, I’m going to follow Enami-san’s wishes for now.\n\n
We passed through the main gate and walked downhill together.\n
Naturally, I had no idea what to say to her. I had never had any contact with Enami-san before. I had no idea what kind of things she liked or what she thought about her life. There was no way I could suddenly find myself alone with her and start a conversation.\n
Even though she had asked me to go home with her, Enami-san was reluctant to open up. The atmosphere was awkward.\n
When we were almost at the end of the slope, Enami-san finally said, \n
“Do you think school is fun?\n
I didn’t understand her intentions, but I was a little relieved when the silence was broken.\n
“If I had to choose between fun and not fun, I would say fun. I like the atmosphere of the class.”\n
“Really”\n
But there was silence again. Enami-san was asking me questions, but when I answered, her response was dull.\n
“Are you not having much fun, Enami-san?”\n
I think she doesn’t think it’s fun, since she’s always late.\n
“

 Not particularly.\n
I don’t know if that “not particularly” means something positive or something negative.\n
Enami-san asked me again.\n
“Do you enjoy studying?”\n
“Not particularly

.”\n
Somehow, I reply with the same words. To be honest, I don’t really like studying, I just do it because it’s the easiest thing to do.\n
However, I don’t have the confidence to convey such a message. That’s why I said, “Not particularly”.\n
“Hmmm
”\n\n
Enami-san was still giving a lax response.\n\n
