Angel had a dazed look on his face. He initially only intended to seek Sandersās opinion and then proceed to Waterford to meet this Fulinton to see if there was anything fishy, but what he hadnāt expected wasā¦
Everyone had mobilized.
With the exception of Lyon, who stayed at home, everybody else had followed along.
It was merely a suspicion about a date, and Angel hadnāt fully associated Fulinton with Rolando yet, but perhaps Suise, due to the recent frustration of gaining nothing from the Alchemy Golem, was now full of vigor and had taken the lead in arriving at Waterford.
They first found Richard in a dilapidated detective agency.
A week had passed, and Richard had finally donned a clean set of clothes, but considering the thick, dark circles under his eyes, it seemed he hadnāt rested much these days.
When Angel arrived at the detective agency and informed Richard that he intended to have him take him to see Fulinton, Richard naturally did not dare to refuse.
Richard led the way but kept looking back now and then.
Angel and White Bear, Richard had already met them before. This time, two more men with a more mature air had joined, and though neither spoke, just a furtive glance at them was enough to send a wave of anxiety through Richardās heart.
Now Richard had some understanding of what it meant for someoneās presence to be as deep and wide as the sea.
The aura that these two men exuded was just so; persistent and powerful, as if one were gazing into the Abyssal Depth itself.
This was probably the most cautious and frightening experience Richard ever had leading the way. He managed to keep his legs from shaking and silently led everyone through the bustling commercial district to the run-down and desolate lower cityās slums.
Eventually, Richard stopped in front of a three-story building with a blackened facade that looked as though it had been once scorched by fire.
When Richard reached this place, a shifty-looking hunchbacked delinquent with a sharp chin and monkey-like cheeks quietly approached.
The groupās demeanor stood in stark contrast to that of the local residents of the slum streets, and they had originally thought this small-time thug was a nobody out to cause trouble.
However, upon catching a glimpse of them, the small-time thug looked somewhat frightened, bowing his head and whispering to Richard, āBoss Kafu, our people have been watching Fulinton for three days. He went out yesterday to pay advance for a carriage, preparing to return to the outskirts of Sea Moon City the day after tomorrow. Since then, he hasnāt left the house.ā
āIs he at home right now?ā Richard asked.
The hunchbacked youth nodded. āYes, I just saw that old man he brought back smoking at the window.ā
Richard nodded, took out a few copper coins from his pocket and handed them over: āThank you for your hard work, your task is now complete.ā
Grinning from ear to ear after receiving the money, the young delinquent nodded and bowed, then waved over a few individuals not much younger than himself. They gathered around, divided the copper coins, and promptly left, disappearing at the end of the long street.
Only then did Richard turn to Angel and explain, āThese are the people Iāve hired to keep an eye on Fulinton.ā
Angel nonchalantly nodded in acknowledgement. Even the lowest of characters can be of value when utilized correctly.
Richard: āIāll take you upstairs; Fulinton has not left, heās inside.ā
Angel shook his head softly and whispered, āNo need, Iāve already seen.ā
Richard cast a puzzled look at Angel, then at the unblemished facade of the buildingāits windows not even on this side. What had he seen?
While Richard was baffled, the man with striking red hair, an unruly dress sense, but an exceptionally stern countenance, entered the building without any inquiry, taking the lead.
White Bear too followed suit, an anxious expression on his face.
Angel patted Richard on the shoulder and handed him the promised bag of money, āYou did a good job on the task. This is what you deserve. Leave the rest to us.ā
Having said that, Angel glanced at Sanders. āMentor, something wrong inside?ā
āSomethingās off. There seems to be residual energy on that Fulinton fellow, but itās unclear what exactly is going on. Letās go in and take a look,ā Sanders replied before he and Angel also entered the building.
On the long street, Richard stood alone, his confusion flustered in the wind.
ā¦
Fulintonās face was filled with terror as he watched several people suddenly storm into his house.
He wanted to shout loudly, but when he opened his mouth, no words came out. Most importantly, it felt as if the space and time around them had solidified, and whether it was he, his deceased wifeās father, or her brother, none could move or speak.
Fulinton, being a sailor aboard the ship White Head, was more aware of the Transcendentsā world than ordinary people. He understood that their current condition must be the act of Transcendents.
But why would a Transcendent inexplicably deal with a mere Mortal like himself?
Fulintonās pupils shrank instantlyāhow could he not recognize Suise? Suise was the mightiest blade once aboard the White Head!
According to the captain, Suise was an Official Wizard, and even among the vast lands and numerous populations of Flourish Continent, Suise belonged to the most powerful group.
Fulinton had also witnessed Suise effortlessly kill a towering sea beast several dozen meters tall aboard the White Bear.
Suiseās strength was undeniable! However, Fulinton had no idea why Suise would appear in his rental house.
With a snap, a piece of letter paper was placed in front of Fulinton.
At the same time, the restraints on Fulinton were removed, and he shakily looked at Suise. The other party merely pointed at the letter paper and said, āTake a good look.ā
Fulinton took the letter paper and read it quickly, which detailed all his deeds after arriving in Waterford.
Someone had investigated him? Fulinton shuddered, which also meant that Suiseās intrusion into his home might not have been accidental, and he really was Suiseās target.
But⦠why?
Though he worked for the White Shell Maritime Company and had come into contact with the Transcendent, he had no ties with Suise, and he had never interacted with Suise onboard the White Bear.
āHaving read this letter, now itās your turn to tell me how you managed to get from Sea Moon City to Waterford in less than a week?ā Suise asked coldly.
He had intended to use a spiritual enchantment to interrogate Fulinton, just as he had done with Feling, but Fulinton was a Mortal with an exceptionally feeble spiritual power, so he didnāt proceed for fear that even a slight stimulus might kill him.
Angel could have used an Illusion Technique to beguile Fulinton, but seeing Fulintonās reaction, he knew the other recognized Suise and realized that considering the character he was displaying, there was actually no need for trickery.
Indeed, after a moment of stunned silence, Fulinton muttered under his breath, āCould it be that fellowās doing? Dammit, I knew I shouldnāt have been tempted by convenienceā¦ā
In full view of everyone, Fulinton confessed everything.
The reason heād arrived in Waterford so quickly was that someone had brought him there. Riding on a flying carpet, they had reached Waterford the day after leaving Sea Moon City.
Suise demanded, āWho was this person, and why did he take you with him?ā
Fulinton, āI donāt know who he was, but I remember he must have been a passenger on the White Bear. I havenāt seen his face, but I recognized his clothing. As for why he took me, I donāt know, he just asked me to do something for him.ā
āWhat thing?ā Suise barked.
Fulinton swallowed hard, already guessing that this must be why Lord Suise had set his sights on himā¦
In the terrifying gaze of Suise, Fulintonās legs trembled, and his groin began to dampen.
āIt was, was⦠his doing. He had me bury a chest in the ground.ā
āWhat was in the chest, and where did you bury it?ā
āI donāt know what was inside the chest; I never opened it, nor dared to. He had me bury the chest near⦠Mount Fear Falls,ā said Fulinton, trembling as he spoke.
āMount Fear Falls, whereās that?ā White Bear asked, puzzled.
āItās right next to Gru Town, my brother Lyon used to train his body there,ā Angel replied.
By now, everyone was vaguely aware that the chest probably held something very suspicious.
Perhaps the incidents at Pat Manor were also related to this chest! Otherwise, why would they be asked to bury it right beside Gru Town?
Moreover, since Fulinton was a Mortal, even if he were discovered, it wouldnāt raise any suspicions at all.
āMy lord, what exactly happened, I truly am innocent; I donāt know anything⦠I was just tempted by convenience. That person told me that as long as I did this for him, he would fly me to Waterford. It was only then that I had learned of my familyās scattering and, in my eagerness, I agreed,ā Fulinton said with a tear-stained face: āI really didnāt do it on purpose, I didnāt know anything.ā
Fulinton kept repeating similar statements, apparently realizing that the chest was the key to everything.
āTake us to the place where you buried the chest,ā Suise ordered, uninterested in responding to Fulintonās pleas, and grabbing him by the collar, he stepped onto the windowsill and flew out.
The others swiftly followed suit.
Meanwhile, Richard, who was leaving the Slums, still had a dazed expression. He had no idea of the identity of the group, but the reward they provided was very substantial. He had secretly peeked inside and amidst the sparkle of silver, even caught a glimpse of gold.
This single commission could keep him worry-free for half a year!
As Richardās heart leapt with joy, sudden cries of surprise rang out around him. Frightened, he quickly tied his money pouch, as in the Slums, the starving people could do anything.
Once Richard had safely tucked away his money pouch, he realized nobody around him was looking in his direction; instead, they were all looking up at the sky.
He too looked up.
With just one glance, he was stunned. The person who had gone to the Slums with him, the one who had commissioned him, was now flying through the air, swooping past with the sound of the rushing windā¦
