âSince itâs a door meant for humans, why canât I use it?â
Attendant, ââŚâ âDid I not check the almanac before leaving the house today? First thereâs an important person I donât recognise, now thereâs a troublemakerâŚâ
âSir, you can enter from that side.â The attendant politely indicated the other entrance.
âWhy?â
Shi Sheng felt like facepalming.
âIs this fellow really a villain? Because heâs throwing the faces of villains everywhere right now! Look at how Yin Mo showed up! Now thatâs the entrance a villain should have, okay?
Whatâs with asking 100,000 Whys like a scrub?! Pei!
That idiot Yu Jiu is here, better run!â
Having remembered this, Shi Sheng descended the stairs.
Seeing that Shi Sheng had run off, Yu Jiu couldnât bother with playing 100,000 Whys with the attendant anymore, as he ran off to chase her.
Attendant, ââŚâ âDoes this kid have a mental problem? He was so good-looking too⌠How come heâs a retard?â
Shi Sheng was very fast, but Yu Jiu wasnât slow either; he soon managed to block her way.
âXiaoxia-meimei, am I so scary that you must run the moment you see me?â Yu Jiuâs breathing hadnât even been disrupted. His gaze was just a bit dangerous.
âIâm afraid that I wonât be able to stop myself from hitting you.â Shi Sheng was very truthful.
Yu Jiuâs dimples showed. âYour punches are kisses, and your insults are my sweet nothings. Although the way you show your love is a bit hard to understand, Iâll do my best to bear with it.â
âBear with it your grandpa!â
Shi Sheng, ââŚâ âYep, really wanna hit him.â
Shi Shengâs hands were itching, so she dragged him into the flower bushes lining the side of the path and began to pummel him.
Meanwhile, the passers-by could only see the bush shaking about, as well as the occasional glimpse of human figures.
Passers-by, ââŚâ âPeople nowadays really donât have any shame! Although itâs night time, doing this in the middle of a busy road is simply improper!â
âŚâŚ
Shi Sheng had been planning on leaving after giving Yu Jiu a beating, but that damned System just had to show up and issue another chain quest. As a result, Yu Jiu suffered another beating.
When they returned to the event, he ran off somewhere to get changed into something much more appropriate.
âXiaoxia-meimei, arenât I the handsomest guy here?â Yu Jiu raised his brows suggestively.
âSure. Like a fucking cricket[1]!â
Shi Sheng put another three paces between them, a contemptuous expression on her face. âMy Feng Ci wouldnât be this retarded! Definitely not!â
There were a lot of young people present, so it was a much livelier gathering than those with only adults.
The older generation brought their children around to associate with other people.
As for those kids who didnât know where their meal ticket had gone to (i.e. Shi Sheng), they could only stand to the side and watch.
Yu Jiu appeared to have pretty much no sense of presence, since no one came up to speak to him.
âI mean, look at Wen Jingxuan for example! See how many people are surrounding him?
Yu Jiu, arenât you the villain? Why is your presence so thin???
Villains should be the centre of attention at gatherings, right? Thatâs how novels should go!
The hell are you being so lowkey for?â
âMr Yu.â
Right as Shi Sheng was daydreaming, a blonde-haired foreigner came over, carrying a glass of red wine as he called out in broken Chinese.
Yu Jiu gave him a nonchalant look. âYes?â
âApologies for disturbing you Mr Yu⌠Itâs to do with that matter. We want to have a word with you.â
The foreignerâs Chinese was rather awkward, so there were plenty of pauses in his speech.
Yu Jiu placed an arm around Shi Shengâs shoulders and pushed her in front of him. âIf you guys can get my Xiaoxia-meimei to speak for you, Iâll agree to your suggestion.â
Shi Sheng, ââŚâ
âThe hell? What line of business are these people in? For fuckâs sake, lil hobby-horse, whatâre you up to now?â
The foreigner examined Shi Sheng, his brow furrowing. In the end, he nodded at Yu Jiu before returning to his group and discussing with them, casting the occasional glance towards Shi Sheng.
âXiaoxia-meimei, when they come look for you, just scorn them all you want. Donât worry, Iâll back you up.â Yu Jiu turned and murmured in Shi Shengâs ear.
âSoâŚwhat do you do?â Shi Shengâs gaze landed on the foreigners. Two of them appeared to stand out among the rest with their imposing manner. They didnât seem like normal people at all, much less so when taking into account the bulges at the side of their hips.
âThey actually brought guns to this type of eventâŚ
Oi, police? Thereâre people in illegal possession of guns here!â
Yu Jiuâs eyes curved upwards as he leaned closer to Shi Sheng. âIf you want to know, find the answer yourself.â
Shi Sheng wasted no time in expressing how much she thought he was an idiot through her gaze. âAnd youâre not afraid theyâll end up âtaking careâ of me?â
âIn no way do those people look like good people! Yet this idiot dares to put me in front of them?!â
Yu Jiu plucked a drink off a serverâs tray and handed it to Shi Sheng. âBut Xiaoxia-meimei, youâre much stronger than them, arenât you?â
He blinked at Shi Sheng. That rather immature face was so adorable, it made one want to just pinch it.
He suddenly lowered his head, his warm breath brushing across Shi Shengâs cheeks. âDonât worry. As long as Iâm around, no one would dare to lay a finger on you.â
âThere are plenty of people whoâd dare to lay a finger on me.â Shi Sheng frowned and moved away from him. âDo you take the FL-sama and ML-samaâs haloes as mere decorations?â
Shi Sheng had just been thinking about the ML, when she saw Yin Mo chatting with the foreigners from before. Since they were too far away, she couldnât hear what they were saying. But from their expressions, she reckoned they werenât too happy about each otherâŚ
Yu Jiu sipped his champagne as he looked at the crowd, the target of his gaze unknown.
Shi Sheng examined him out of the corner of her eye, while her mind whirred as she tried to put the pieces in place. Unfortunately, there were too few clues for Shi Sheng to come to a conclusion for now.
So she could only give up.
Yin Mo chatted with the foreigners for about five minutes before leaving. They hesitated for a long time before sending the representative from before to head towards Shi Sheng.
But before he could get close, Shen Jiayin popped up from somewhere and bumped into him.
âOh, Iâm so sorry for dirtying your clothes!â Shen Jiayin pointed at the stains on his clothing with an apologetic expression.
âItâŚis okay.â The foreigner probably didnât wish to cause any unnecessary trouble, wanting to continue heading in Shi Shengâs direction. Unfortunately for him, Shen Jiayin kept harassing him with apologies.
Having been delayed thus, he didnât even notice when Yu Jiu brought Shi Sheng somewhere else.
By the time he looked again, the two had already disappeared. Meanwhile, the hostâs side had already sent someone on stage to start speaking into the microphone.
âAhem⌠I would like to give my thanks to everyone, for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend this eventâŚâ
Everyone immediately quietened down and looked towards the stage.
Opening speeches were always long, drawn-out, and filled with useless words. After around 5 or 6 minutes, he finally got to the point.

ââŚEveryone knows why we are gathered here today. Then, may I please ask the children who are participating to step forth. We will be testing your basics in a bit.â
The moment the words escaped his lips, some parents were already pushing their children forward, though most didnât move.
They had only brought their children out to expand their horizons, and knew their limits, so they wouldnât send their kids up to lose face.
Only those who had confidence in their kidsâ stone-gambling abilities dared to send them forward.
