A few days later, after Vee’s sudden proposal, I received a letter from him inviting me to hunt some monsters in the premises of the capital.

I obviously agreed to go with him, since I had nothing better to do, however, the surprised look on his face when he saw me, was the best reaction I could’ve hoped for.

“L-Leno… t-those clothes…!”

“\\\Fufu, do you like what you see? I picked them specially for you!\\\”

Since I was a girl now, I bought a lot women’s clothing, after all, I had to get used to them as soon as possible.

Besides, Vee’s the son of the hero king, so I couldn’t look bad while I was by his side–no, my pride as his retainer wouldn’t let me do that, even if I wanted to… which is why I’m wearing his favorite type clothes right now.

“I know I said all that the last time we met, but… you didn’t have to wear those clothes if it was going to make you this embarrassed, you know…?”

Vee quietly stared at my lower half. To be more specific, he was trying to figure out what was inside my skirt, which made me look down in embarrassment, since he was right.

A wave of embarrassment and excitement hit me right after I did that. My heart was beating really fast as well. However, even though I felt really embarrassed, this wasn’t a bad feeling.

“Oh? Are you going out to exterminate those nasty monsters, Prince Vincent?”

“I heard they’re really strong, so you better take care!”

“Thank you for ridding us of those monsters, Your Highness!”

Many people called out to Vee while wishing him good luck, or thanking him, as if that was the most normal thing to do.

However, what caught my attention the most wasn’t their friendlyness, it was the fact that they never blocked his path to talk to him, like the nobles usually did.

Thanks to that, I felt a bit out of place, since I didn’t need to disperce the crowd. It was like I was just an extra following him around, which obviouly made many people stare at me with curiosity.

“It seems like only the nobles know about my curse, huh? No one recognized me, so I think I’ll be okay even if I go outside without a disguise.”

“But that doesn’t mean you can go out on your own. You’re a girl now, so a thug will probably attack you, if he sees that you’re alone.”

“I already know that. But what about you, Vee? Is it really okay for a prince to go out without his escorts?”

“What are you talking about? You’re the only escort I need, Leno. Anyone else would just get in the way–”

True, Vee didn’t really need anyone else, aside from me, by his side. He was so strong, that even the best assassins wouldn’t dare to pick a contract on his life. I mean, he slaughtered everyone who ever tried to kill him, so nowadays, no one’s willing to try their luck anymore.

“–Not to mention that my father told me to kill my enemies with my own hands, if I want to show them how powerful I am. It’ll cause less trouble if they’re afraid of you, he said.”

Well, even if I keep worrying about Vee’s safety, in his case, acting alone is indeed the best way to solve things, after all, he’s not just a pushover of a prince… he’s the son of the hero king.

After exiting the capital through it’s main gate, and walking for a while, we finally reached our destination: A monster nest deep inside the forest.

“Vee, is that the monster nest we’re looking for…?”

As we inspected the nest atop of a small hill, Vee turned to the side and said that to me, before jumping out of cover with his Greatsword in hand.

Before I became a girl, I used to swing a Greatsword around as well, but now I can’t even lift it anymore. With my current strength, I can only lift daggers, and that’s it.

(At this point, I’m just extra baggage for him, aren’t I…? Haaah∼, anyway–)

“–Vee, be careful out there!”

“Relax∼! When did I ever lose a fight!?”

With a playful grin plastered all over his face, Vee then turned around once more and headed to the nest to finish his job.

“Wow… the way he fights is as amazing as always, huh…?”

One by one, Vee mowed down all the monsters. I’ve seen this scene repeat itself a thousand times already, but still, I couldn’t help admiring his strength.

The monsters were like insects, compared to him. It’s no wonder all of Vee’s teachers gave up on teaching him the way of the sword. He’s like a one man army, after all.

Well, many people were afraid of him because of that though. Some of his father’s enemies even called him a monster behind his back.

(But to me, Vee will always be a true hero of justice…)

While I was busy reminiscing about the past, I noticed that Vee was staring intently at me, so I raised my hand to wave at him and show that everything was okay over here.

However, before I could do that, I saw a blur passing by me, followed by the sound of meat being cleaved. Turns out there was huge wolf standing right behind me, but Vee killed it before anything serious happened. In other words, he just saved me.

“My bad… the wolf almost got you because I wasn’t paying attention….”

“Y-you don’t need to apologize, Vee! It’s okay! Rather, I’m the one who should apologize for not pating attention to my surroundings. Besides, you even saved me, s-so thank you.”

“Is that so? Then, can you please help me collect the materials of the monsters? I still have to finish off the rest of them.”

“Okay! I’ll collect their materials while you finish the job!”

After hearing that, Vee nodded with a serious look on his face, before turning around and heading back to the nest to start the second round against the monsters.

(\\\Kyaaaaa∼♥! Vee is so cool!\\\)

I managed to keep my cool after he saved me, but now that I was alone, my excitement shot through the roof.

Vee was like a hero out of a fairy tale.

And to make it even better, he saved the damsel in distress!!!

This wasn’t the first time Vee ever saved me.

In fact, he did so several times in the past as well.

But, for some reason, my heart skipped a beat when I saw him shaking the blood of the wolf off of his sword, after saving me.

Vee is a man among men, so it isn’t weird for another guy to fall in love with him. I actually witnessed that first hand a lot of times.

The question is, did the same thing happen to me as well?

Since I wasn’t getting anywhere with those thoughts, I decided to save them for later and focus on collecting the materials of the monsters. However, by the time Vee returned, I hadn’t finished even one third of them yet.

“I didn’t notice there were this many monsters while I was killing them. We should leave the rest to the knights… they will probably take care of everything….”

“Yeah, you’re right… there’s no way we’ll be able to take care of all this….”

There is a limit to what two people can do. We wouldn’t be able to take care of all these monsters even if we tried. Their corpses were literally covering the entire landscape.

But that wasn’t what caught my attention the most.

Although the landscape looked hellish, to say the least, there wasn’t much blood on Vee’s clothes. It seems like he managed to dodge all the blood, while also fighting the monster, which left me even more impressed with his sword skills.

“Hmm, hey, Leno… that, uh….”

“Mm? What is it?”

While I was lost in thought, Vee called out to me, so I turned around to see what he wanted… only to see a fidgety Vee staring at me, as if he was waiting for something.

(Ah…! Maybe that’s what he wanted!)

Since it’s been a while we last went out to hunt together, I ended up forgetting one of the most important jobs of a retainer–

“You were really cool today, Vee! You’re so strong, that I couldn’t help but admire your strength!”

“Really? You think I was cool?”

–And that is: praising your liege.

Well, I only gave him my honest impression, like always, but that was enough to make Vee smile from ear to ear. I think he’s really cute when he acts like this.

As I tried to hide my laughter, Vee suddenly hugged me, and said–

“–It’s good to know that you think I am cool….”

“\\\\\\\\\V-Vee!? What are you-!?\\\\\\\\\”

“Fufu, you don’t have to panic like that, you know? This will end really soon.”

When I heard that, I felt my face becoming hot.

My heart was also beating really, really fast.

Although I wanted to stop Vee before something happened, part of me also wanted him to continue what he was doing…… that is, until he touched my butt.

“Haa… haa… so this is how it feels to indirectly touch string panties!!!”

But, well, I wasn’t really worried about that, since I knew why Vee chose me… that is, until my mom decided to throw a bucket of cold water over my head.

“Lenoir Miller, if you tarnish Prince Vincent’s reputation because of the way you act, you know what will happen, right?”

“Yes ma’am….”

From that point forward, I decided to take my classes seriously.

One morning, as I was preparing myself to get up from bed, one of my maids came rushing into my room.

“Lenoir-sama, this is urgent! You have to wake up now! Prince Vincent is here to see you!”

“Eh!? Vee’s here!?”

Since no one was expecting him to come today, three other maids came in to help me change as fast as possible, so that I could go and welcome Vee.

“Good morning, Leno. Did you sleep well?”

“Vee! Yes, good morning! Why didn’t you tell me you were going to visit today?”

“But I’ve been coming here to visit since forever, so why do I have to tell you now, after all this time?”

True. Everyone from the Miller household, including the servants, were used to seeing Vee around here. That’s how often he came to visit.

When I was a man, I didn’t care much about his sudden visits, after all, I just had to wash my face and change clothes to prepare myself. But now that I was a woman, it started bothering me a bit, since I needed a lot of time to prepare, compared to before.

“Because I need a lot of time to prepare myself. It’s not easy to find the right clothes for the day, put on makeup and fix my bed hair, so it would help a lot if you told me when you’re coming.”

I used to think that the phase, I need a lot of time to prepare myself, was just an elaborated excuse for when a woman got late to an event. However, now that I know how much time it takes to just put on makeup, I feel kinda bad for thinking that.

“But I’ve seen you without your makeup on many times, and, to be honest, I think you don’t need it. Your natural beauty is enough.”

It’s true that, when I’m with Vee, I don’t need to wear makeup, or style my hair. But since he proposed to me, I need to always be at my best, otherwise, it’ll tarnish his reputation.

“You know I can’t do that, even if I want to. As a candidate for the position of next Queen, I need to look presentable at all times. Besides, a real woman should never go out looking so plain, that’s what my mom told me.”

“Is that so? Sorry for coming unannounced then. It’s just… to me, you’re still the same old Leno, so it’s a bit hard for me to treat you like a girl all of a sudden.”

“I’m not scolding you, Vee, so you don’t have to apologize. Just remember to tell me first, before coming here. My maids looked like they were dying after they helped me dress up.”

“Okay. I promise I won’t forget to warn you guys next time.”

After that brief talk I had with Vee, the two of us sat down on a nearby couch and enjoyed a nice, and warm, cup of tea that was prepared by another one of my maids.

“You know, I’ve been meaning to tell you this, but… you changed quite a bit in these past few months, Leno. And you’re acting way more refined than usual. Did something happen?”

“My, are you curious? Well, because a certain someone proposed to me, my parents hired a super strict teacher to turn me into a perfect lady. That’s what happened.”

After seeing my forced smile, Vee stared at me with a complicated look on his face, before saying–

“–Hmm, i-in my defense, I didn’t expected them to do that. But, I’m really sorry for putting you in this kind of situation….”

“It’s okay. I’m not really angry, or anything. I was just trying to blow off some steam by messing with you, Vee. My parents are a bit too excited about me marrying you, so they tend to be way more strict than normal with me, sometimes.”

“I see….”

As of now, there was nothing romantic about our relationship. We were just two best friends helping each-other out in our moment of need. That’s why Vee proposed to me, in the first place.

Well, there was also the fact that he wanted to take responsibility for what happened with me, so I couldn’t really turn him down.

Besides, if I could serve as an insect repellent to keep those cockroaches–I mean, noble ladies, off of him, then I would be more than happy to help Vee as well.

“…*Sigh*…Well, I guess I’ll have to embrace my inner lady and resign myself to my fate then. I mean, there’s nothing I can do to change what happened to my body, so learning how to be a perfect lady is better than doing nothing.”

“Even when you turned into a woman, you didn’t sound as depressed as you are right now. Are you sure you’re okay?”

Just by looking at his expression, I knew that Vee was genuinely concerned about me.

To tell the truth, I was a bit sad at first, after learning about my situation. But at the same time, I was really happy to know that I managed to protect Vee from that curse spell.

That’s why I don’t regret what I did back then.

I would gladly throw myself in front of Vee again, if that meant I could protect him, after all, I’m his best friend above anything else.

“Yes, I’m okay. I may not be able to work as your retainer anymore, but I still swore undying loyalty to you, remember? That’s why I don’t regret what I did back then. Rather, I’m happy that I was able to protect you from that spell, Vee.”

Serving the crown is a tremendous honor, so not being able to work as Vee’s retainer really shocked me, in the beginning. I felt like I was abandoning my duties to the country by not being by his side at all times. But now that I was a woman, my role had changed from retainer to his fiancee, so didn’t feel as bad anymore.

As I raised my head to look at Vee, I noticed that his whole body was quivering, so I tried to touch his shoulder to see if he was okay. However, before I could do that, Vee grabbed my shoulders first, and said–

“–I knew it! I knew I was right in choosing you, Leno! There’s no one better than you to be my wife, so please, marry me!”

Apparently, Vee was so touched by what I said, that he couldn’t help but propose to me again.

Hearing that made me feel a bit embarrassed, but since I didn’t want to be swept away by Vee’s sinfulness, I gave him the same response that I always gave him.

“\\\I-I know you’re a good guy, Vee, since we’ve been together for a long time, but I just can’t see you as anything more than my best friend. Besides, I’m sure there is someone out there that’s way more suitable to you…\\\”

When it was announced that the Queen of Skyford was pregnant, many people saw that as an opportunity to get closer to the crown.

There was a huge baby boom amongst the aristocrats at the time, since they wanted their kids to befriend and marry the new prince, or princess, that would be born soon.

In other words, everyone wanted a piece of Vincent Skyford.

“But I’m not interested in anyone else, aside from you.”

“\\\\\\Ugh! I-I’m happy to know that, b-but you need to be more careful with your words, Vee. If your fans ever hear you saying that, they will probably pass out on the spot, you know?\\\\\\”

After hearing that, Vee stared into the distance with a blank look on his face, as if he was reliving some past trauma.

“No, you don’t have to worry about that… my fans only care about seducing me… nothing else matters to them….”

“O-oh… I see….”

Vee was handsome, strong, smart and he knew how to fight, not to mention that he was the son of the hero king, so it’s no wonder the noble ladies of the Skyford Kingdom were throwing themselves at him like a wave of hungry monsters.

But that wasn’t the worst part.

To make things even worse, their parents were also incentivizing them to do those things.

This wasn’t just seduction anymore, this was an all out war, and the allied forces just had two people on their side… me and Vee.

“Anyway, what have you been doing lately, Leno?”

“As far as I know, no, everything has been normal lately. Oh, and thank you for studying about nobles again, Leno–”

Even though Vee is regarded by many as a perfect prince, there are some things he’s not good at. One of them, is the fact that he tends to forget the names of the people he doesn’t care about, even if they are important people.

Once, he even mistook the name of an important noble while they were in the middle of their conversation. That’s how little Vee cares about other people’s names. Which is why I took it upon myself to remember the name of every important noble of our country.

“–I’m bad with names, so you’ll be a lot of help to me when you’re back.”

“Fufu, you sure are easy to please, huh?”

I’m not nearly as smart as Vee is. My only qualities are that I can remember things, and that I’m good at being sociable.

If you think about it, I’m pretty useless, compared to some other retainers out there.

But to be honest, I’m more than happy that I can be of help to Vee in at least something, since I’m not good at anything else.

“My teacher told me that every social gathering is a woman’s battlefield, so I’ll use my disposition to make you proud of choosing me, Vee.”

“Leno….”

Even if we can’t be together at all times like before, I’ll still do my best for Vee’s sake. That’s what I promised myself when I started taking my classes seriously.

“Well, I’m still not ready to stand on stage with you, Vee, but once I do, please, rely on me as much as you want, after all, I’ll forever be your loyal servant… even if only in name.”

After listening to everything I had to say, Vee stared at me with a resolute look on his face, then he hugged me, and said–

“–I promise I’ll make you fall in love with me, Leno, so please, let’s get married right now.”

“\\\\\\Eh…!? B-but we can’t just marry all of a sudden! T-there’s an order to these kinds of things, you know!?\\\\\\”

The distance between the two of us was already short to begin with, since we were sitting on the same couch. But with Vee hugging me, now we were even closer to each-other.

I could smell the perfume on Vee’s clothes, and hear his heart beat. Also, his well developed muscles could be felt even through his clothes.

Being hugged by him wasn’t unpleasant at all. It actually gave me a sense of comfort and safety that I had never felt before.

And, before I noticed it, I felt my consciousness gradually fading while still on his arms.
