The memory of the earth ended when Aden was about to cut off Emperor Marcusâs head with his sharp-edged black greatsword, another symbol of the Dark God. Then the world became bright once again, and⌠as if he had woken up from a long dream, Kiser shook his head as he opened his eyes. No, it wasnât just Kiser, because numerous knights were trembling as though they were suffering from hypothermia.
âThis is⌠the truth?â Kiser blankly mumbled, still as a statue.
âThe truth is always cruel,â Joshua said.
Kiserâs eyes blazed up with fury. He gritted his teeth and turned to Joshua.
âYou bastardâŚâ he growled. âYou shouldnât stay so calm if everything we saw is true.â
âThatâs why I told you in advanceâŚâ
âShut up!â Kiser roared. âCan you really not tell how serious the situation is? When someone kills their parents, they get executed. When they commit treason, their grandparents and children also get executed. If someone murdered none other than His Majesty, the entire family will be exterminated!â
âNo one knows if His Majesty was killed at that moment,â Joshua mumbled, still maintaining his composure.
âYou shameless bastard!â Kiser burst into anger. âWhat are you doing? Arrest the criminal right now!â
The Imperial Knights drew their swords without hesitation. One hundred silvery blades rasped against their sheats, and then all were pointed in the same direction.
ââŚYou donât understand what I meant.â Joshua examined the swords pointed at him with cold eyes. âDidnât you say you want to know the truth?â
âThe truth? Are you seriously talking about the truth right now?â Kiser growled.
âWe havenât seen what happened at the end yet,â Joshua reminded him.
âBe quiet!â Kiser stood before Joshua and scowled.
âI didnât like you in the first place!â he shouted. âYou, a part of the Imperial Family? You share the same blood as us? Nonsense! Youâre mixed bloodâno, a mutt. You can never be considered one of us! On top of that, half of your blood is from Kunir, the archenemy of my Britten family!â
ââŚAs expectedâŚâ Joshua slowly curled up one end of his mouth. âWhy didnât you say that from the start?â
âWhat?â Kiser narrowed his eyes.
âYou didnât want to know the truthâyou just wanted to see reality as you wanted to see it.â Joshua sneered.
âYou son of a bitââ
âNow I can see that you actually resemble His Majesty the most amongst you and your brothers.â Joshua shook his head disparagingly.

Kiser came to a halt.
âI⌠resemble Father?â
âIn the end, youâre a Britten.â Joshua shrugged.
âDo you think you can say anything you want just because I let you speak!?â Kiser turned to the Imperial Knights. âImperial Knights, do you plan on standing around and watching him babble?â
âStop!â Joshua menacingly yelled before the knights could move. He released his energy, and it hit Kiser and the Imperial Knights like a storm.
âUrghâŚ!â
His energy was so overwhelming that the Imperial Knights could feel their knees weakening in spite of their inhuman endurance.
âDo you really think you should be the one getting angry?â
Joshua didnât even call Kiser prince anymore.
âYou seriouslyâŚ!â Kiser shook his head in anger.
âCan you still not tell?â
Joshua took one step forward.
âIf I wanted, I could overthrow this Empire on my ownâright now.â
Despite the pressure on his entire body, Kiser wanted to yell, âBullshit!â But he couldnât because he could feel an instinctive fear rising from deep within his heart.
âThe only reason Iâm not doing that is⌠because I wanted to give you all a chance.â
âA⌠chance?â Kiser blankly repeated.
âBecause I can see âitâ. The ancestorâs karma passes down to their descendants. For generations, the karma has piled up, so one death isnât enough to atone for it.â
Kiserâs eyes widened.
Suddenly, the door slammed open.
âWe have a pr-problem!â
A knight ran into the bedroom but flinched when he saw his colleagues holding drawn swords. On top of that, a man was confronting the knights; it looked to the newcomer like they also had a problem.
âWh-what is thisâŚ?â The knight looked around, bewildered.
ââŚWhatâs the problem?â Kiser quietly asked, trying to change the air.
The knight pulled himself together.
âItâs treason!â he quickly answered. âYou should take shelter, Your Highness!â
Kiserâs eyes became even wider as the unexpected news struck him.
âWh-What? Did you say âtreasonâ?â
âFrom the Second Princeâs Palaceâ! We donât have time! His Highness Kaizen is in danger!â the knight reported.
There was someone who reacted faster than Kiser.
Joshua disappeared from the room like the wind.

Inside the Second Princeâs Palace, exactly half of the nobles within the palace were collapsed on the ground, bleeding out; the remaining half were huddled up together, trembling with fear. They surrounded Kaizen, whose back dripped with sweat.
âYou son of a bitchâŚ!â he cursed.
On his opposite side, Kaiser was watching them with a scarily expressionless face.
âI definitely didn't expect you to pull off this kind of crazy stunt⌠What are you trying to do?â Kaizen asked, but Kaiser was still silent.
At first, Kaiserâs request to have a meeting with all the nobles on Kaizenâs side and be accepted by them made Kaizen think that Kaiser was a really distrustful man, but heâd never thought Kaiser had been scheming like this.
âAnswer me, Kaiser!â Kaizen insisted.
Kaiser finally broke his silence.
âIsnât this a good moment to start something?â
ââŚWhat?â Kaizen couldnât believe his ears.
âMost of the Imperial Knights are at the colosseum, and the knights that were left to protect the palace are all in the council chamber, where the imperial seal is currently storedâ
âYou know very well that Iâm not asking that,â Kaizen growled.
âWhy am I doing this?â Kaizer shrugged. âItâs simple: because I already promised to help Kiser.â
âHa!â Kaizen chuckled dumbfoundedly. Although he wanted to say more, he knew that it was meaningless. He looked around for a moment and gritted his teeth. âWhere did this many people come from?â
The masked men were surrounding Kaizen and the nobles with swords in hand, but those menâs clothes were truly bizarre. If they were from the same group, they were bound to dress the same, but they didnât. Exactly half of those men were wearing black, yet, like water and oil, the other halfâs clothes were white.
âDonât take it so badly because itâs not like I havenât kept up the end of my bargain at all,â Kaiser said.
Kaizen came to a halt. âWhat?â
âBut then again, the Tower Master rejected my offer⌠He already reached Class 8, so he doesnât need a spellbook. In addition to that, he also said that since heâs that damned Joshua Sandersâs friend, he canât do something that will cost him his pathetic friendship. If I knew things would turn out this way, then I wouldnât have bothered leaking the information to youâŚâ
âThe one who leaked the information about the spellbook⌠was you?â Kaizenâs lips trembled.
âHow else would you have found out about the spellbook when itâs well-hidden in my bedroom?â Kaiser sneered.
Kaizen quietly groaned. It was clearly his mistake. He should have thought about it before he proceeded, but the anxiousness in the corner of his heart landed him in this situation.
ââŚWeâve wasted too much time.â Kaiserâs eyes turned cold. âDonât spare anyone.â
âYes, Your Highness,â one of the masked men quietly answered.
The nobles trembled like aspen leaves because although there were at least fifty masked men in this place, the masked man that had just answered was the one who had killed all the dead nobles. The nobles had seen with their own eyes how surprisingly skilled an assassin the man wasâin fact, he was as good as the Imperial Knights of the great Avalon Empire.
âN-no! I canât die like this.â
âYour Highness Kaiser, please at least spare us our livesâŚ!â
âPlease donât kill us, Your Highness!â
The noblesâ desperate cries filled the room.
âIs this my endâŚ?â Kaizen soon gave up and looked straight ahead.
The masked man that had answered approached Kaizen and held his sharp-edged sword high up in the sky. Unable to look anymore, Kaizen shut his eyes, andâŚ
âŚthat was when something unexpected happened. Kaiser had stepped aside to watch the situation, but now, his eyes in surprise. One of the nobles had blocked the masked manâs sword, an attack from a man who was considered as skilled as a captain of the Imperial Knights.
However, the problem was that the noble who had stopped the masked man was someone that no one anticipated. Among the nobles, he was the only one who was wearing a robe, but he took off his hood now, revealing his identity.
ââŚBabel von Agnus?â Kaiser muttered in disbelief when he saw the manâs face. âHow did youâŚ?â
âAre you surprised that Iâm alive?â Babel glanced at Kaiser as he was still blocking the assassinâs blade. He chuckled. âYou ought to be curious since I should be in hell after the War God killed me.â
âThat meansâŚ?â Kaiser trailed off.
âItâs simple: Iâm not the one who died.â Babel grinned.
In an uncharacteristic break from his usual poker face, Kaiserâs shock was plain to see.
âIt hurts my pride so freaking much to be saved by the person I never wanted to lose againstâŚâ Babel frowned.
âNo wayâŚâ Kaiser mumbled in disbelief.
âStillâŚâ Babel fixed his grip on the sword and smiled brightly. âMy brother is better than you. From now on, Iâll stop you even if it costs my life.â
After Babel finished speaking, he drew up as much of his mana as he could.
An ear splitting explosion rattled the entire palace.
* * *
Joshua had been darting forward, but he came to a halt and flinched when he heard a ground-shaking explosion from close by.
ââŚIs it from the Second Princeâs Palace?â
âMaster!â someone shouted.
Joshuaâs eyes widened at that moment. He wasnât sure how they had found him, but two people were approaching him.
âCain?â he wondered, bewildered. âAnd behind you isâŚ?â
Using magic, Theta appeared right before Joshua and smiled happily.
âLong time no see.â
âHow are the two of you hereâŚ?â Joshua asked.
âNow is not the time to exchange greetings, master!â Cain hurriedly shouted. âThe two empires simultaneously started mobilizing their armies near Reinhardt just now!â
Joshuaâs eyes widened.
âThe Swallow and Hubalt Empires?â he quickly asked.
âYes, theyâre not moving their armies towards each othersâ lands; theyâre headed to a different place, as if they formed an alliance againâŚâ Cain trailed off.
âWaitâŚâ Joshua narrowed his eyes.
âAmong the two empiresâ armies, the Swallow Empireâs army is expected to hit none other than our Avalon,â Cain reported. âIt looks like theyâll soon join their grand army on the border!â
Joshua gaped blankly at him, so Theta quickly added, âI got the report from the mages of my Magic Tower that surveil the entire continent, so Iâm certain of the informationâs credibility.â
âItâs basically the Second Continental War right now! Icarus already went off to meet Lady Charles to return to the merchant group!â Cain said.
