Chapter part 1 part 4
The four of us from the same team that was formed at the film department that consists of Tsurayuki Rokuonji, Aki Shino, Nanako Kogure and finally me,Kyouya Hashiba live together in a shared house known as Kitayama. We were satisfied with the basic living necessities provided here as it consists a 4LDK layout, a separate bath and toilet, and despite all of that, cheap rent. Â
But unfortunately, the same thing couldn’t be said for its heat countermeasures once midsummer rolls around.
Sharehouse Kitayama doesn’t have an AC. Well the world was cooler 10 years ago so it was probably just the result of cost-cutting.
Minamikawachi being at the southern part of Osaka has unusually harsh summer heat that could be caused because of its basin-like topography which traps the hot air and in turn torments the students. As a result people tend to gather where airconditioners are located.
(TN- I tried to search the place what place this could be . My criteria was that it had to be at northern sakai so I narrowed it down to Uenoshiba station which coincides with the US acronym plus it had to be near the station as that will make it popular with students coupled with the fact that the meals had to be cheap and have large portions and it had to be open till midnight and had to also be airconditioned. Well unfortunately nothing really matched my criteria I narrowed it down to two places but both of them didn't really spot-on fit the bill so the restaurant may already be closed as this was 2006 Osaka or it could really be just loosely based on one of the cafe's there.")
The AC works well here so we’ve been here quite a lot recently.
“AAAAHH Kawasegawaaa! What’s the deal with her!”
It was late at night and even then it was still hot. Tsurayuki is crying out in complaint.
He cuts into the gigantic omurice with the spoon and carries it to his mouth one after another.
“I was only convinced to scrap the lines of the final scene, but what’s with her just wantonly cutting the dialogue of other scenes, hrmph!”
He swallows his irritation with his omurice all at once and consequently exhales his unyielding pride in one breath.
And speaking of the other, we were only just looking at him with a wry smile.
“Now now~, It’s not like she did it out of spite.”
“Of course it wasn’t! If that was the case we’d be butting heads face to face!”
It was the latter half of the finishing touches after the filming, the post-production is already underway.
Today was the preview for the film Kawasegawa edited so everyone watched it together but…..well, a lot of the dialogue was cut into pieces so Tsurayuki was dreadfully upset.
“But, Tsurayuki-kun, didn’t you also watch the preview till the end?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Then what did you think of it?”
*tsk*
Tsurayuki kun lightly clicked his tounge and turned his face away towards the window.
“……..If it was boring, I wouldn’t be so frustrated.”
He mutters in a low voice.
Seeing that, the three of us looked at each other and lauged.
“Hey what’s with the laugh! The script I wrote was cut and hurt!”
Nanako feeling appaled at Tsurayuki who was trying to complain to everyone as she says…
“That’s why Kyouya cared enough to invite your tattered self to eat out late at night like this right?  You should be thanking everyone in keeping you company.”
“Nanako, don’t you think of anything about having a considerable chunk of your screentime being cut off!?”
“Not reeeally~. If it ends up making the film better for it, then isn’t it fine?”
“Hrmmm……….”
Tsurayuki vented out his frustrations after a brief pause.
“Shit! Shit! Someday that bitch director will come up to me and begs, “Please oh please let take me a picture of you with my phone” and I’ll say “I’ll let you do It after you bow down to me.””
While he bursts away his grudges, he once again began engorging himself with his meal.
“Uwah-, Tsurayuki really becomes terribly worked up when it comes to his script.”
Nanako breathes out a sigh.
“…….I won’t lose to anyone.”
He murmurs while for a moment he stops his hands holding a spoon.
“After the film screening it’s already time for the school festival. It goes by faster than I thought.”
I changed topic while I looked over at the store’s calendar.Â
“Hey hey, Kyouya are you thinking of doing anything for the festival?”Â
Nanako listens with eyes shining brightly.
“Eh, not really, our circle isn’t really planning anything so I’ve been thinking of watching over the art exhibit.”
“Well, if you aren’t doing anything- Do you want to take a crack at frying okonomiyaki or baking crepes? Come on let’s do it!”
Let’s do it she says.
I’ve been part of opening a store in my previous university life. We’ve had to go to a health agency to get inspected. It brought a lot of troublesome memories.
In the first place, can students even plan on setting up autonomously. We have to start there.
“Then do I take it that that’s what you want to do Nanako?”
“Me? No, don’t wanna.”
She shakes her hand as she declines.
“Eh? Didn’t you say you want to do it just now?”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I just love watching the sight of people that I know cooking. It would turn out great if you cooked just cause you’re so skilled at it but on the other hand, would it really be fun if an inexperienced brat would start fumbling around with apron and crepes”
It might be as she says.
“That sounds fun~, I want to make hotcakes too.”
“The apron would look good on Shinoaki! I’m sure that a crowd of customers that like that sort of thing will come rushing in.”
“Cleaning up afterwards would be a pain though….”
I’ll have to admit, Just imagining things for the school festival is exciting, I’m sure that actually doing it would be more fun.Â
“What about you Tsurayuki?”
I call out to Tsurayuki who was duking it out with the large amount of omurice.
“Ah, maybe if it was a part time job. I don’t really have things that I want to see that much.”
He didn’t seem to be interested as he replied.
“Such a lonely life Tsurayuki, Add some more excitement and fun into it.”
“Buzz off-, I already have my fare share of fulfillment in life just by writing.
“I want to see Nanako at the school festival in a very lewd waitress costume, I won’t have excitement in my life if you don’t do that~”
“What are you talking about s-stupid, There’s no way I would do that”’
While angry Nanako’s face grows bright red in embarassment.
If that were to happen I’m sure there would be a lot of troublesome customers that would act the same way like Shinoaki.Â
