While dealing with Claude, Cain had forgotten to take on a quest.
Cain immediately headed to the quest board. He could only take on quests up to rank F, which was one rank above G.
Most of the quests at this rank were within the city.
He would rather avoid tasks like cleaning and moving goods.
However, if it was moving goods, he could use the item box to get it done quickly.
When he searched for a hunting quest, he found a standing offer to hunt goblins and wolves.
The reward was one large copper coin per goblin or wolf, with no upper limit.
One large copper coin was equivalent to 1,000 yen in Japanese currency, and he wasn't sure if it was a good or bad rate, but he decided to head out for the hunt.
The standing quest board indicated that the goblins and wolves were in the eastern forest, so he decided to head there.
He walked out of the capital's gate and headed toward the eastern forest. There were many people around, as the capital was nearby.
Ideally, he would have used a teleportation spell to get there quickly, but he had to be cautious of the people around, so he ran at a brisk pace.
When the number of people decreased, Cain left the road and entered the grass. He then teleported in a hurry to the entrance of the forest.
"Is this the eastern forest? I wonder how many monsters are here."
He used the exploration skill to spread his mana thinly and widely in front of him.
With his level increase, he could now investigate up to about five kilometers ahead.
There was a reaction from a group gathered a few kilometers away.
"I found them. I'll go to where they are gathered first."
Cain used the body enhancement skill and ran through the forest, avoiding the trees.
As he approached his destination, he hid in the shadows of the trees and observed the group. There were dozens of goblins gathered, and among them were higher-level goblins like goblin soldiers.
"I'll reduce their numbers with some magic."
Cain released a vacuum blade from the shadows.
Several goblins standing in a line were cut in half and fell.
He held a sword in his right hand and cast magic from his left hand as he advanced into the group.
"Gyaaaaa!"
A nearby goblin let out a scream.
The higher-level goblins in the back seemed to have noticed and were approaching with rusted swords.
Cain cast an air bullet at a goblin soldier, hitting it in the face.
He took advantage of the moment when the goblin soldier was holding its face in pain and beheaded it.
He continued to eliminate the goblins that swarmed around him with his sword and magic.
"That's the last one."
He said as he finished off the last one.
"Goblins' right ears, right? I'll take them along with the magic stones."
He cut off the right ears of the fallen goblins and extracted the magic stones from their chests.
"I really hate extracting these magic stones."
He said as he cut off the right ears of the remaining goblins.
He put them all in a bag and stored them in the item box.
He gathered the fallen goblins in one place, opened a hole with earth magic, and buried them.
"Alright, that's done. If I go back now, it's still too early. I'll look for more."
He used the exploration skill again to search for the next group.
He confirmed the positions of the monsters and headed to the next location.
The next group was a small number of lizardmen. Cain didn't know this, but they were classified as D-rank individually and C-rank when in a group. They were covered in scales and were said to be harder than ordinary monsters.
"Kishaaa!"
They were shouting, but Cain cast a magic spell on his sword and beheaded them with a single strike.
He gathered about ten corpses and was now pondering.
"By the way, which part of the lizardmen do I need to submit? I didn't have the quest board, so I'll ask later."
He muttered as he stored the lizardmen's corpses in the item box.
"The monsters in the Gracia territory's forest seemed stronger. I'll ask the guild for a place with stronger monsters. I think I'll go back for today."
He said as he cast a teleportation spell.
His vision changed to a patch of grass near the capital's gate. Cain put on a nonchalant face, showed his guild card, and walked through the gate.
The guild was empty because it was still early in the afternoon. Retia was at the reception, so he joined the line.
When it was Cain's turn, Retia recognized him and smiled.
"Welcome back, Cain. Did you find any quests?"
Retia seemed to think he had taken on a city or collection quest.
"Retia, I've been hunting goblins from the standing quest, but what parts of other monsters do I need to submit?"
"Goblins are the right ear. For wolves, it's the tail."
"No, I mean others. I actually encountered lizardmen, but I don't know which part to take."
Retia was surprised by this.
"Cain! You just registered as a G-rank, so you shouldn't push yourself. Lizardmen are D-rank individually and C-rank when in a group. It's good that you managed to escape without being found."
Retia sighed, relieved that Cain had returned safely.
"... Retia, I actually killed the lizardmen and I'm here to ask about the parts. I also brought the ears of the goblins."
Cain said this and took out a bag containing fifty goblin ears from a magic bag and placed it on the counter.
"!!!"
Retia was shocked by the number.
"Cain, please wait a moment."
Retia suddenly left the reception and went to the back.
Cain stood there, unsure of what to do.
Retia quickly returned with someone.
"Cain, sorry to keep you waiting. Since it involves the lizardmen, can we talk in a private room? This is my superior."
"This is Cedric, the sub-guild master. The guild master is currently with a guest, so I'll handle it. I'll prepare a private room, so please come this way."
Cain was led into the private room by the two of them.
"Here, no one else can hear us, so it's fine. Be honest, what did you do with those goblin ears?"
The sub-master Cedric asked.
"I just found a goblin village and killed them all."
Cain answered honestly.
"There's no way a child could do that! And you even killed lizardmen. It's impossible for a newly registered G-rank."
"Why do you think it's impossible? I'm telling you I killed them."
"If you insist, I have no choice but to revoke your guild card for cheating."
Hearing the word "revoke," Retia was surprised.
"That's too harsh. Cain might be telling the truth."
Retia tried to help.
"That's not a proper decision as a sub-master. You're accusing him of cheating without any evidence."
Cain also argued.
"It's a decision as a sub-master! You're just a commoner's kid trying to act cool as a new adventurer. If you had been honest, I would have considered it."
"That's unfair!"
Cain retorted.
At that moment, there was a knock, and the door to the private room opened.
"What's all the commotion?"
A well-dressed elf man entered.
"This is the guild master, I'm sorry, but this boy is cheating, so I was questioning him."
Cedric explained to the guild master.
The guild master sat on the sofa in front of Cain and looked at him.
"Nice to meet you, my name is Edin. I'm the guild master here."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Cain, a newly registered G-rank."
Cain greeted politely. Edin smiled at him.
"So, Cedric, why do you think it's cheating?"
Edin asked, looking at Cedric.
"On the first day of registration, he brought in a bag full of goblin ears and claimed to have killed lizardmen. There must be cheating involved."
Cedric answered indignantly.
Edin sighed.
"Cedric, you're the one who doesn't understand. You have no evidence. If it's true, how will you take responsibility?"
Edin questioned coldly.
"Moreover, you said he's just a commoner's kid trying to act cool. That's what you said earlier."
Cain added fuel to the fire, of course with a full smile. The dark one.
"!!!!"
Cedric's face turned red as he glared.
"Is that true? Retia, you heard it, right? Be honest."
Edin's cold gaze pierced Retia.
"... Yes... Cedric did say that earlier."
Retia answered honestly, avoiding Cedric's glare.
Hearing this, Edin glared at Cedric.
"Cedric, you're the one who has violated the guild rules. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Edin glared at Cedric.
"Are you choosing this brat over me? A newly registered adventurer!"
Cedric shouted passionately.
"You don't understand, wait a moment. Come in."
The door opened at his voice.
An elf woman in a royal guard uniform entered.
Indeed, there was only one elf woman in a royal guard uniform.
The moment she entered, Cedric's eyes widened and he knelt.
"Knight Commander Tifana, welcome. You look even more beautiful today."
Cedric greeted her with the highest respect.
"Brother, what's going on? Oh, it's not my husband! What are you doing here?"
She said and hugged Cain.
"‘Husband?!’"
Cedric and Retia were shocked, their eyes wide open.
