On the top floor of Flavum.
Two figures can be seen in the gorgeous room of the dormitory manager. The first one had an imposing manner while the other seemed very nervous.
A girl with the same platinum hair as Mulle was sitting at the desk, holding a wand, as if she was in the middle of teaching. The girl is Chris Esse Eisbert– the second daughter of the Eisbert family, who are said to be all-talented.
She was a prodigy who joined the magic association 『Qualia Heights』 at the tender age of 19 after using the grade-skipping system to graduate early from a magic graduate school in the United States.
While possessing first-class Craft technique and being awarded the title of 『Alchemist (A title for magicians who are excellent in Craft)』, she is also one of the highest-ranked magicians who hold the rank of 『Supreme』.
Wearing a pair of unique stained-glass earrings that changes color depending on the light that shines through them… the girl who also wore a purple cloak turned her magic eyes toward her sister.
On the other hand, Mulle could only curl herself up. Perhaps trying to maintain her dignity, she desperately raised her face.
“Mulle,”
The platinum blonde-haired girl boredly looked down at her sister.
“What is this?”
She held a dormitory newspaper with a picture that Mulle had made in her hand.
Mulle, whose face turned pale, nervously muttered while intertwining her left and right fingers.
“I-it’s a newspaper…”
“Who drew this picture?”
Suddenly, Mulle turned around and smiled.
“I-I did! I am the one who drew that picture! I think I did a good job there if I say so myself! And it’s not like I am happy to be praised by the dormitory members, but I heard from Lily that it was well received within the dormitory–”
*Shred*
Without waiting for Mulle to finish her sentence, Chris shredded the newspaper and Mulle could only watch over it with a blank expression.
“You still don’t understand your position?”
Arrogance could be seen on Chris’s face as she smiled scornfully at Mulle.
“This dormitory is a coffin that the Eisbert family made for you. The darkness that is prepared especially for you so that you don’t do meaningless things there. A mere corpse shouldn’t move. A failure with almost no magic power shouldn’t do unnecessary things.”
She ridiculed Mulle, who is sitting in a daze.
“Why do you think you, who can’t even use magic, can be enrolled in Otori Magic Academy? It’s all thanks to the power of the Eisbert family. It seems lately you have been working hard to run the Flavum dormitory and seem to be writing some letters to Okaa-sama, but… let me tell you, nobody read such things. Because all mail with your name written on it will be incinerated before it reaches Okaa-sama.”
“I… I just…”
Tears gradually welled up in her eyes. Then, as if desperately trying to squeeze the answer from the back of her throat, Mulle whispered.
“I-I just thought I’d do what I could–”
“You can do nothing.”
Sneering, Chris crosses her legs.
“There is nothing that a failure like you can do. I don’t know if it’s a welcome party for new students or whatever, but who would be interested in an event that a faker (Ese1) like you planned? There is no one who would want to participate in a welcome party held by you, whose existence is worthless–”
“Excuse me~”
While grinning, I held the Flavum’s dormitory newspaper.
“I’d like to participate in this new students’ welcome party… can I apply for participation here?”
I, who has been leaning my back against the open door, then stepped into the dormitory manager’s room and taped the torn dormitory newspaper. Then, with a smile, I handed it over to Chris.
“Here, please.”
“…”
Filled with murderous intent, her eyes terrifyingly shine brightly, as if trying to shoot me dead.
“Look carefully with those beautiful eyes.”
Saying that, I bend the corners of my mouth.
“This is a good picture. If you can’t see it, go see an ophthalmologist. If you can’t go alone, shall I escort you there?”
“Mulle,”
Startled, Mulle’s body trembled.
“Why is there trash in the dormitory?”
“T-that’s…”
“You failure, do you not even know the rule of the world? Trashes should be–”
While drawing a spiral, she opened her magic eyes–
“Disposed of, right?”
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*
The desk that is divided into parts became a wave, and squirming around, trying to restrain my limbs.
Immediately, I flew behind. However, tracing2 my movement, the desk parts that are made of mahogany crafts (generated) more and more parts from top to bottom and chased me.
Realizing that these were all done not by Control, but by high-speed Craft, made my skin tingle. Because that means she is not an opponent that I can beat at this stage.
Trigger, Twelve Craft, Nil Arrow.
Upside down in the air, I draw a rail with my index finger and middle finger– both of my eyes then throbbed– and a huge number of routes were displayed.
Seeing the spectacle in front of her, Chris opened her eyes widely.
“What’s with that incredible amount of magic power…?!”
“Ugh”
There’s too much information. As my brain feels like it was punctured and my vision was blacked out, I squeezed my magic power output as much as possible– and then a mass of magic power was shot from my fingertips.
“Tch!!”
Immediately, Chris pulled the trigger on her wand, and foam cushioning material appeared in front of her.
“Rise!!”
Rail Breaking, Wall Reflect.
She destroyed the rail of magic power and created a wall right in front of the cushioning materials, deflecting the Nil Arrows to the ceiling.
However– I swing my fingertips down right away.
The Nil Arrows that deflected to the wall once again rained down on Chris–
“As expected of an amateur who doesn’t even know how to hide his own magic!!”
As she said that, cushioning materials were generated at high speed as if to envelop Chris and blocked my Nil Arrows.
Confident in her win, she smiled triumphantly, but– her face soon turned into shock. Because I was already right in front of her, swinging my sword–
“If you can’t do sister-Yuri, get out!!”
My sword then hit the cushioning material and as I tried to pierce it, it tied my right arm.
“Sure enough~!! There is no way I can win~!!”
“I’ll kill you…!!”
Chris created a twisted spear with a speed that a human’s eye can’t follow and tried to stab me with it– but an anti-magic barrier blocked it.
“Oi, Oi.”
Arshariya, who suddenly manifested herself, yawns in the air.
“Please stop trying to kill yourself while I was sleeping comfortably. How far are you going to degenerate your brain before you are satisfied? You yuri-monkey. Can you use your head a little for yourself?”
“Dieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Die you bastarddddddddddddddddddddddddddd!! (scream)”
“Good grief, this is why I don’t want to come out.”
“What… are you…?”
Chris gritted her teeth in shock.
“So you are the rumored Tsukiori Sakura, huh… this incredible amount of magic power… it’s astonishing that you can fight with me to this extent relying on your sense…”
“Ah, come to think of it, I haven’t introduced myself.”
Then, I laughed, following Arshariya’s instruction.
“I am Sanjou Hiiro, the one who protects Yuri, in other words, your enemy.”
“Sanjou… Hiiro…”
As my restraint was released, Chris got down from the desk and unfolded her cloak.
“I have no intention of selling favors or getting involved with the Sanjou Family. It would be a hassle if I killed you. So, I’ll spare your life. However, if you are still planning to get along with that failure,”
As her spiral-like magic eyes pierced my being, she gave me her business card to me.
“I will kill you.”
I took the business card– and threw it away in a cool manner. The business card split into two and slowly fell to the floor.
*Fyuuuuu*
The wind entered through the open window, blowing the business card away, making Chris have an expression that looked like she was going to cry (subjective) at the moment.
Without waiting for her response, I quietly passed her while wiping the corners of my eyes with my fingers.
Then, I glared at her sideways3.
“I will ki–”
*Boom*
Suddenly, floor materials generated at high speed, sending me flying and slamming me into the wall.
“I was just trying to show you an example, though?! I was just trying to show you an example!!”
“Die.”
Ignoring my grievance, Chris left the room.
As Chris left, the stunned Mulle regained her composure and nervously approached me.
“A-are you okay, Sanjou Hiiro…?”
“I broke my ribs again. ^_^”
“Sanjou-sama!!”
Lily-san, whose expression turned into a fright, jumped into the room and supported me who was lying down.
“I am very sorry… I shouldn’t have asked for help… even though you have nothing to do with the Eisbert family… I am very sorry…”
“Enough about me, take care of Mulle first… that’s more effective to heal my injuries… just by imagining it, it’s working, seriously…!”
Lily-san continued giving me first aid, ignoring my words. Meanwhile, Mulle, who was wandering around, stood on tiptoe and stared at me worriedly. Then, suddenly, she reverted to her haughty manner.
“H-hmph! You sure are lucky, Sanjou Hiiro! If Onee-sama were serious, you’d be just a piece of meat by now! Well, you should learn from this experience, stop sticking your neck into someone’s busine–”
“Mulle!!”
Being yelled at by Lily-san, Mulle jumped in surprise.
“Say your thanks to Hiiro-san!! Right now!!”
“B-but i-it’s not like… I asked him to… a-and Sanjou Hiiro is just a man…”
“Mulle!!”
“….. T-thank you.”
Mulle whispered, and I stopped Lily-san who seemed to still be angry at Mulle.
“No, it’s true that I’m the one who stuck my neck into someone’s business without permission. Since this is something I did on my will, it’s not something to get angry about.”
“Oh! Looks like you properly know your place, Sanjou Hi–”
“…”
“Uu…”
Being glared at by Lily-san, Mulle shivered.
“Sanjou-sama.”
Lily-san then lowered her head deeply.
“Really… thank you very much…”
“On the contrary, it was actually a good thing because I have nothing to do. Please call me again anytime.”
Hearing that, Lily-san smiled, and I laughed while showing the dormitory newspaper.
“Besides, this new student welcome party sounds fun, after all. I’ll be troubled if the party is crushed by that girl.”
“Thank you very much… well then, once again. I will accept your application to participate in the new student welcome party, Sanjou-sama.”
“Eh?”
I stiffened, and the little dormitory manager slapped me on the back while laughing.
“Ooh! Come to think of it, you brought the participation application form to my office! You are the first one to apply, Sanjou Hiiro! What a loyalty! Good, good! Looks like you wanted to participate so much that you even oppose my sister! In that case, I’ll let you be my assistant to help me prepare the welcome party!”
“Ano, it’s not like that, I…”
“Mulle, I don’t think it’s good to ask Sanjou-sama that much… besides, it is weird to have the person being welcomed helping the preparation…”
“But the person himself said he wanted to, though? Look, he is full of motivation.”
The two of them glanced at me.
In front of those eyes that looked at me full of anticipation, the possibility of Chris trying to ruin the welcome party, and me being worried about this little dormitory manager… with all of those reasons, I smiled with a tearful face.
“I’ll be glad to…!!”
Thus, I was appointed as the assistant to prepare for the new students’ welcome party– and the next day after school, I was immediately summoned by the highly motivated Mulle.
