The keyboard player didn’t even bat an eyelid. “Who are you referring to, stalking you? The recording artist and I came here for food too.”
Wang Chao scanned around. Where is the said recording artist?
The keyboard player said, “He’s already left. You took such a hard jab at him at the company, he will probably avoid you from now on.”
Wang Chao already forgot what he said to the recording artist. He scoffed at him, “Are you insane? Why are you still looking for me?
The keyboard player said, “For food.” He wasn’t polite at all. As he spoke, he grabbed and put on a pair of single-use gloves, ready to dig into the basket of crawfish with Wang Chao.
Wang Chao protested. He tossed the half-eaten crawfish on the table and mocked him, “Are you actually shameless then?”
The keyboard player said, “Shameless for eating only a couple of your crawfish?”
Wang Chao didn’t want to waste any words with him. “Alright alright, you eat them yourself.”
He peeled off his own gloves and was about to leave.
The keyboard player grabbed his arm and called after him, “Can’t we just have a normal conversation for once?”
Wang Chao flung his arm off and exclaimed, “What is there to have a normal conversation with you about!?”
There were only a couple of customers in the store, so it wasn’t so loud. His voice was quite loud, and everyone looked toward his table.
He’s been an idol for a while. Even though whenever his agents chided him he seemed indifferent, he is self-conscious about being an idol. He’s even fixed his not-so-heavy accent for the most part.
Confronting someone in a public setting is obviously not something an idol should do.
He hurriedly pressed the brim of his baseball cap down.
The keyboard player said, “Sit down. I only have a couple of sentences to say. After this, I promise to never bother you again.”
Wang Chao pressed his cap down even further and sat down furiously. “Hurry the fuck up then.”
He thought the keyboard player wanted to talk about that song in the second album. He didn’t gain much popularity after releasing his single and probably feels unfair still.
The keyboard player peeled a crawfish and said, “You loved eating these things even back in school. Greasy and spicy, you insist on eating them even after you get pimples.”
Wang Chao said, “Stop bullshiting, I never get pimples.”
The keyboard player said, “I get them. Every time after eating them with you I have to borrow my girlfriend’s aloe vera gel.”
Wang Chao didn’t want to listen to him. “Did I beg you to eat with me?”
The keyboard didn’t argue with him and continued, “Actually, I didn’t even really like that woman. We got together because she seduced me. We slept twice and entering the relationship as a virgin, I got a bit addicted.”
Wang Chao was impatient already, “Are you done or not? How does this have anything to do with me?”
The keyboard player continued, “She scammed me. She talked about this and what happened in her family and I believed her. But I only had two thousand yuan for living expenses every month so I didn’t have any money to give to her. As such, I scammed you.”
Wang Chao couldn’t figure out his intention and said, “What? Should I award you with a medal then? Why are you showing off? Are you proud that you were able to scam me?”
The keyboard player propped his elbow on the table and said, “I was scammed by her because I was infatuated. It’s only reasonable for men to spend money on the women they slept with. What dazzled your eyes?”
Wang Chao, “…” He kind of gets what he’s talking about now.
The keyboard player’s expression softened as he continued, “You said that I was shameless for eating your crawfish. I wasn’t angry at all. I cared too much about my ego before – had I learned to be shameless, we wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
Wang Chao scanned him from top to bottom as if he had run into a ghost. “You think I have a crush on you?”
At this moment, someone with the same baseball cap as Wang Chao walked into the restaurant.
Wang Chao’s table was straight across from the restaurant’s entrance so he spotted him instantly.
The other man saw him too. The moment he did, he pursed his lips.
