âYouâve been saying that since a while agoâŚ.â
Kawazu-san has been excited since we came back to the room.
His greenish body acquired a tinge of red.
But itâs different from anger, itâs more like a defeated look.
âWell you see, why is it like this? What was the [Recovery Magic] that Iâvebeen using up until now?â
What Kawazu-san meant, the [Recovery Magic] thatâs usually used reinforces liquid flowing in the body â a process which has healing effects.
Even combining it with medicine, it couldnât achieve results to that extent.
Itâs only on the extent of healing small scratches.
âAnd I even died once, absurdâ
âTrue, that may be a bit frustratingâ
âRight?â
Thatâs â a magic that could reverse death. One would be mortified after finding out.
And Kawazu-san who doesnât have the same magic would feel bad.
Humans are beings that donât appreciate what they have.
Kawazu-san may be down now but heâll bounce right back up somehow. This time, Iâm the target.
âAnyway. You did the smart thing this timeâ
The grinning Kawazu-san seems to be happy about something, changing his attitude from a while ago.
Itâs a mystery how he can change behavior so drastically, so quickly.
ââŚ..ah, youâre rightâ
But I gave him a curt reply.
I wasnât in the mood and Kawazu-san thinks itâs strange.
âWhatâs wrong? Why arenât you happier?â
âIâm happy, relieved reallyâ
âRelieved?â
Kawazu-san let out a long sigh as he listened to me.
âIsnât it obvious? Iâm filled with guilt hereâ
âHuh? Whyâs that?â
I donât want to talk about it, nothing will change if he hears about it.
But itâs true that Iâll feel bad if I just bottle my feelings up.
I couldnât hold it in anymore so I decided to come clean.
âWhat I did todayâŚ..was it not human experimentation? I was afraid someone would point that outâ
That was actually the first challenge of [Recovery Magic].
âI downloaded lots of healing magic, you know? Iâve realized that I canât just stay unaffectedâ
It seems like Kawazu-san finally realized how seriously I take this.
Thatâs right. I was thinking of nothing but the results, but one wrong move and it wouldâve been catastrophic.
âSo thatâs why you refused their gratitude. But didnât your conscience kick in at all when you modified me?â
âWell youâre a kidnapper, different from the common people. I was desperate in your caseâ
ââŚ.youâre the worstâ
âMy! To think that it succeeded! I just had to review the real reason!â
That time with Kawazu-san, I didnât even know where to start.
It should go without saying.
Of course that success was commendable, but the result was too heart-poundingly real.
You see, if we test the limits of [Recovery Magic], would it heal something that didnât require healing?
Donât wounds have their purpose as well?
If there are injured patients in front of me, wouldnât it be hard to resist healing them?
âŚâŚshould I not use it?
Iâve never been resolute but I can do things if push comes to shove.
âA-anyway! Since that man was healed, we should use [Recovery Magic] without worrying! Itâs completely a Give-and-Take scenario. Exchanging things we could both benefit from!â
âI got nothing from your explanation, though-â
âIâm regretting it! But still, I didnât do it for my own gain and it was charity â but to be honest, we canât just fix everything with a power like mine! At the very least, too much is bad!â
Unconcerned, Kawazu-sanâs voice of agreement hurts.
It certainly has to do with the fact that I remodeled him.
ââŚâŚwell, to put it roughly, I wanted to try things differently this timeâ (Tarou)
âLike what?â (Kawazu)
âThat, he wouldnât get healed if I didnât do it, right?â
ââŚâŚ.most probablyâ
Listening to Kawazu-san, it seems like that injury wasnât something that one could heal so cleanly.
If thatâs the case, anyone would desire this magic.
âAdditionally, what would happen if I did something like resurrecting the dead â like what I did to you? Wonât it be a magic that makes humans immortal? Ainât that bad?â
I have confidence that I could execute the magic that I just mentioned.
Itâs precisely why we fear god, and I think people take caution because they take their mortality into consideration.
ââŚâŚâŚâ
Kawazu-san fell silent with the questions I raised.
My magic isnât just strong.
Itâs omnipotent in every sense of the word. It made Kawazu-san discontentâ anyone would want to use it as well.
âAs I thought, running away might have been the right choiceâ (Tarou)
ââŚâŚdonât worry, everything would work outâ
ââŚâŚthatâs right, I can do anything after allâ
Somehow, Kawazu-sanâs languid state made me give out a wry smile.
âIn any case, Iâve already done the deedâ
And in my foolery, Kawazu-san just laughed and snorted at my face.
âWe~ll, isnât it fine as it is? Itâs really best to follow what youâve decided. And you, just continue being the carefree and peaceful person that you areâ
âWhatâs with that? I feel like Iâm seriously being made fun ofâ
âWhat? I canât make fun of you now?â
ââŚâŚ.then that just makes us evenâ
âWhat did you say!â
Our verbal sparring lasted for a while; the mood for the day was uplifted and it remained that way till we slept.
âYou guys are magicians right? You cured me but we donât have anything to repay you with, you know? Did you know that?â
The following day, a troublesome event suddenly occured.
ââŚâŚKawazu-san, explainâ
âUhâŚâŚ.hm, thatâs right. To put it simply, magiciansâ skills are very exclusive. Those skills are incredibly sought afterâ
ââŚ..could it be that magicians are avaricious?â
âYou said something rude! It just takes the supply and demand into considerationâŚâŚ basically!â
ââŚâŚ.I got itâ
Itâs unreasonable to employ a magician for everything in this world.
But itâs also bad for a magician to use magic in order to rip someone off, or so I decided.
âAa, thereâs something that I just have to sayâ
â? What?â
I asked in return, clearing my throat.
Letâs continue with this pace.
âTo tell you the truth, Iâm but a fledgling magicianâŚ..â
Saying that made the husband have a blank look on his face.
I was prepared for the displeasure, but I received laughter instead.
âAhahahaha! I see! So I was a practice dummyâ
âI apologize! It was done in the heat of the moment!!â
I immediately gave a bow.
I was considering if kneeling on the floor would have been better, but it turns out to be unnecessary.
âAa my, please donât mind it. I wonât mind it either anyway~â
âEh?â
âItâs not a big deal, right? I was even saved. And you didnât have any bad intentions either, right? Iâm not some sort of academic, so I canât understand difficult stuff. You even helped a lost child â healing someone is a nice thing. Since youâve done something good, isnât it fine to just push through with it?â
âIs it like that?â
âYea, itâs like that. Isnât it fine to regret it only if you failed? If thatâs the case, you wonât continue it if itâs badâ
The laughing husband is quite magnanimous.
I was slightly impressed.
âThen, would you accept our thanks? Money would be fine, but we donât have enough to compensate a magician~â
He seemed to really want to thank me no matter what.
In my case, I wasnât looking forward to receiving anything. But Iâve explained my point, and I donât know how to refuse anymore.
Oh thatâs right â I do have hold some interest about blacksmiths.
âBy the wayâŚâŚ youâre a blacksmith, right?â
âThatâs rightâ
âWell thenâŚ..â
It was awkward but I told him what Iâve been wanting to have for a while now.
âAlright! Then test it out!â
âYea! This has the great feel to it!â
Travelling the unexplored regions was more comfortable than I thought.
Our enthusiasm was quite high.
In my hand is a sword which I was happily brandishing out of itâs sheath.
Yes, rewards should be like this.
Even with an amateurâs eye, itâs a good sword. It canât be compared to the modern immitations that Iâve seen before.
âBut why a sword? You donât really need it right?â
I looked down on Kawazu-san who canât even understand such romance.
âThatâs a stupid thing to say. Itâs common-sense for otherworlders to buy a sword in a Fantasy. Also, Iâm the type who buys wooden swords from Kyotoâ
ââŚâŚ.what?â
As a tribute to me meeting with my first sword today, I hereby name it âoyakataâ (T/N: boss, master).
I even gave it a great name.
âIf Iâve done something good, isnât it fine to just push through with it â huhâŚ.. we~ll it like thatâ
âWhat now?â
âNo, itâs nothingâ
There were a lot of things that had to be done, but the results turned out alright.
