CHAPTER 4 â IâM JUST A REGULAR PERSON, CAN I BATTLE THE MOST POWERFUL WIZARD?
PART 01
ââ
ââŚIs this Satsuki?â
[Rekka! Iâm so glad the call went through!]
I had answered the phone doubtfully, not really expecting anyone to answer, and was thus relieved to hear the nostalgic voice of my childhood friend.
I had so many questions, like how the signal from Earth managed to connect all the way to PheneritaâŚbut most importantly,
âSatsuki, Iâm glad youâre alright.â
Her call had given the assurance I needed.
[Thatâs my line! I was so worried because Rekka just disappeared!]
âOhâŚ! Sorry.â
She had every right to be angry. Besides, I was also apologizing for the fact that I mistook Iris for her back at the abandoned factory.
[*sigh* Seriously⌠Anyway, Rekka, where are you now?]
âErm⌠Outer space, I think.â
[âŚHuh?]
Satsuki sounded stunned at my extraordinary reply.
âWell, lots of stuff happened.â
In fact, too much stuff had happened, it would be impossible for me to explain it all. I mean, Iâd even traveled to another world.
Just as I was churning out an explanation in my mind, a grumpy Iris tugged at my jacket sleeve.
âHey, Rekka! Arenât we in the middle of a conversation?â
Then, I heard Satsukiâs voice from the phone,
[Huh? Was that a girlâs voiceâŚ? Rekka! Just where are you!?]
She sounded really angry again. Whatâs happening here?
Cornered by both girls, I couldnât come up with an answer for either of them.
[âŚAlright, Iâm heading over right now. Youâd better explain everything to me.]
âHuh? Youâre coming?â
But this was outer space⌠Just as that thought flitted through my mind, the phone in my hand let out a faint blue glow.
[âŚReach out to the voice, connect me to him. Teleport.]
As I heard Satsuki chant in a sing-song voice, the glow increased greatly in brightness.
âUwah!â
âKyaah!â
A blue shadow suddenly flew out from the blinding light.
Slowly, the brightness dimmed away⌠And there was Satsuki, standing right in front of me.
âEh? EEEEEEHHH!?â
Ignoring my freak-out at her sudden appearance, my childhood friend calmly gazed around her. When her eyes landed on Iris, sitting next to me, her brows immediately furrowed.
âRekka, I truly didnât expect to see another girl with you⌠Youâll explain whatâs going on, right?â
âW-wellâŚâ
I cringed. Itâs been years since I last witnessed such anger in Satsuki. I wanted to run away, but my legs felt weak and I remained rooted to the sofa.
âOoh, is that what they call a loverâs tiff?â
Shut up, R!
I needed to explain how I got into this complicated situation fast⌠Thatâs right!
âIris! Show Satsuki your tail now, hurry!â
âHuh? My tail?â
Iris asked, head tilted.
âTail? Rekka, what are you talking about?â
Satsukiâs expression darkened. She probably thought I was trying to trick her. I looked over at Iris, silently pleading her to comply.
âWhatever. Here!â
Iris raised her tail, which had been lying hidden beneath her butt, and swished it around. The soft silver hairs caught the light, dazzling my eyes.
âHuh? Is that a real tail⌠Huh?â
As planned, Satsukiâs anger was quickly replaced by confusion, and I took the chance to speak up.
âSatsuki, shall we calm down and talk things through?â
ââŚAlright.â
And thus, I narrowly escaped a situation more frightening than the Demon King and the meteor. Phew!
