âI was told that you were heading to Elsus? It must be tiring to stay at such a place. Let us have you relax and recover in the middle of such a journey.â
Valencia Vermont suggested.
Kyrie and Nathaniel were now in the mansion of Marquis Vermont. The invitation on the messengerâs hand had the handwriting of the Marquis, and Kyrie had no way of refusing.
âIf my father was a monk, then the Prince of Vermontâs was a beggar. I donât want to cross paths with him.â
(T/N: This line means that her father was like a person who is good at doing outwardly good things like a monk while Vermont is like a beggar who wants attention and love.)
Kyrie hid her inner thoughts and lifted her glass.
âThank you for your hospitality, Marquis.â
âHospitality, of course. A Buchanan is here, so it is only natural to do this much.â
The Marquis laughed heartily.
âItâs rather sad, Ms Buchanan! How come you never thought of stopping by my estate to visit me?â
âI didnât think you would be here because it wasnât the main city.â
Kyrie responded coldly and politely. The Marquis fiddled with his short shaved beard.
âThatâs right. Itâs unusual for me to come here.â
âIt sounds like you came here because of me.â
âWhy not? Count Buchunan told me his daughter was on the way here, so I should take note.â
Damn that father.
âMy fatherâs worries should not concern you. You do not have to worry about it. I will be leaving soon.â
âYou donât have to refuse! With such a lovely lady here, we should go view the flowers.â
âFlowers bloom in spring, Marquis. I think you have mistaken the season.â
(T/N: OMG SAVAGE)
(P/R: LMFAO YEAH SAVAGE)
âI canât be mistaken, my eyes feel pleasant.â
(T/N: Recovery 100)
The Marquis stifled a laugh. He raised his glass with surprisingly sharp eyes.
âBy the way, are you really thinking of not introducing me to your silent companion, Miss Kyrie Buchanan?â
Of course, at the end of the gaze was Nathaniel who sat at the same table and had not said a word.
He didnât seem like the type to get along with others at all. His etiquette was excellent, and his courtesy exuded from head to toe
Maybe thatâs why the Marquis didnât kick him out. He seemed to be someone of high status.
âTo think Miss Buchanan is going on a trip with a young man I donât know. Isnât this definitely something to live and see! Even Count Buchanan doesnât seem to know about this?â
It was a remark that mocked Kyrie in secret, and she wondered what Nathaniel thought about it.
Nathaniel swirled the wine in his glass around and paid no attention to the Marquis, let alone answer.
Instead, Kyrie opened her mouth.
âAre you curious about who he is? You will be surprised to know.â
âHow fun would it be, at my age, youâll find everything boring. I think itâs the young people that will feel shocked.â
âYouâre kidding. Youâre correct though.â
âNo, no. I am merely an old man waiting for something new every morning.â
The Marquis stroked his mustache and shifted his interest to Nathaniel again.
âLook, even now, youâre not saying a wordâŠâ
Kyrie smiled bitterly.
âHe is very shy.â
âHe doesnât look like a shy young man. I really want to know who he is. Donât tell me youâre in the middle of your life, Miss Buchanan?â
The eyes of Kyrie and the Marquis of Vermont clashed sharply in the air. It was Kyrie who first smiled effortlessly.
âNo way.â
âIf so.â
He put down the cup he was holding.
âYou donât have to be in a hurry. Gladios will be here soon.â
As soon as Gladiosâs name came out, Kyrieâs smile had a small crack. She quickly gathered her composure and asked carefully.
âIs Gladios coming?â
âYes. My son Gladios. Count Buchanan recommended that it would be nice to have a short meeting since you two are of the right age.â
âThatâsâŠ. a good idea.â
Kyrie barely answered.
âBut what should I do? I donât think I can stay long because Iâm in a hurry.â
âYou canât spare a day. Donât tell me youâre going to refuse this old manâs request, Miss Buchanan?â
Speaking skillfully, the Marquis of Vermont gazed at Kyrie.
His eyes were saying that he would not allow refusal. Behaving like a snake, the Marquis of Vermont was basically stubborn.
Vermontâs characteristic was that they would go beyond common sense if you didnât do what they wanted.
âItâs hard to avoid, but itâll be difficult if something happens here.â
Kyrie slowly skimmed her dress and got up from her seat.
âRejection, Marquis. Youâre saying something I didnât think of. Rather, itâll be my pleasure, and as you have said, I will go back to my room now to relax.â
âMake sure you get some rest.â
The Marquis of Vermontâs small eyes turned to Nathaniel, who rose along with Kyrie.
âYou too.â
Nathaniel didnât answer.
With a smile like the moon on a winter night, he extended his arm to Kyrie. It was an understandable gesture, even if the Marquis was offended by the rudeness.
âCough.â
However, the Marquis of Vermont only coughed once, showing signs of discomfort.
Kyrie realized again. Wild dogs cannot make a lion kneel.
(T/N: She realized that no matter how much a wild dog barks he cannot be superior/equal to a lion.)
She greeted him gracefully.
âWell, have a good night, Marquis.â
After leaving the dinner room, Kyrie led Nathaniel to a small guest garden before returning to her room.
âCan I talk to you? I have a problem. No, it hasnât happened yet, but I think it will happen soon.â
[Gladios Vermont.]
âThatâs correct.â
[Itâs an annoying and funny name.]
âHalf right and half wrong. Itâs annoying, but itâs not fun.â
[So.]
Nathaniel put both of his palms together. As he opened his hands, a black wand came out from his palms, as if it was magic.
Kyrie continued to speak calmly, even after seeing the amazing sight.
âHe said that he will come tomorrow. And it seems that Lord Nathaniel cannot avoid attending. Whether itâs a meal or tea time.â
She actually wanted Nathaniel to refuse.
[Iâm not reluctant.]
She wished that he could do something with the magic that even cleared away the heavy snow. However, Nathaniel put a playful spirit on his thick lips.
[Itâs exciting.]
âAre you going to attend?â
[As a guest, of course I should.]
âThe unidentified guest.â
[You know how to be sarcastic.]
Nathaniel laughed.
Kyrie lowered her eyes while holding her chin.
âMay I ask you a favor?â
She had been with Nathaniel and realized something. If there was anything she can trust, itâs only the manners of a nobleman in Nathanielâs body. In Kyrieâs eyes, Nathaniel was a man who did not know morality but knew manners.
âThe Young Lord, Gladios Vermont, may be disrespectful to Lord Nathaniel. But I will solve it, so please leave it to me.â
Nathaniel laughed happily.
[Youâre pretty confident.]
âAs if there was none.â
(T/N: Meaning: she is being sarcastic about Nathanielâs words as if she was never confident in her actions, also she indirectly implies, that if not for that confidence she would never been able to keep him besides her)
[If there was any, it would last forever.] (T/N: He is also being sarcastic about her confidence that would last forever in future. I wonât explain further coz I will end up giving spoilers)
Kyrie, who naturally exchanged proverbs among nobles, shrugged.
