Yoonshin was shocked at how he was swept up by Sehunâs skillful rejection and fell silent. Instead, he looked up at the grinning Sehun with his puffy face. The other frowned slightly, but he soon turned his back on Yoonshin without another word.
The older manâs slim and tall frame walked up to his car. Sehun got in his luxurious sedan and drove out of the parking lot without looking back.
âAttorney Kang!â Yoonshin reflexively took one step forward to chase the car, then gave up. Following someone who concisely expressed his disapproval was no different from stalking. Yoonshin thought they were getting closer, although by a modicum, but Sehun must not have thought the same. Maybe Yoonshin stepped slightly over his bounds to his senior.
Sehun didnât know that Yoonshin couldnât sleep well the other night, so frankly speaking, he had no reason to be considerate. Even if he did know, there was no guarantee that he would be that understanding.
âYeah, go on then. Thatâs why he doesnât have friends. I was dumb for trying to appeal to him.â Yoonshin stood staring at where Sehunâs car used to be, then slowly turned around. He was slowly starting to run late, so he walked toward his car. As he was walking past a pillar, a familiar car came back inside, stopping him in his tracks.
Unless his eyes suddenly turned bad, that car was Sehunâs.
Sehun honked at the surprised Yoonshin and stopped his car nearby. Not only that, Sehun stepped out of his car, looking very irritated, and glared at Yoonshin, who stood a few meters to the side.
Yoonshin was bewildered. âDid you leave something at home?â
Sehun jutted his chin at the passenger seat, looking extremely displeased.
âGet in.â
âSorry?â
âI said, get in. Donât make me repeat myself. Get in before I change my mind.â
Yoonshin didnât know what caused this change of heart, but he decided to hurry. He tactfully got in the passenger seat and fastened his seatbelt, and Sehun returned to his seat as well.
Confused, Yoonshin kept glancing at Sehun. The older lawyer must have felt uncomfortable because he jerked his head at the younger man, telling him to talk. Yoonshin took the bait immediately. âWhy did you come back? I thought you would just leave.â
âYeah, I thought I would do that too.â Sehun sounded surprised at himself. Just as he did before, Sehun looked like he also didnât understand his own actions, which were unlike himself, so Yoonshin couldnât press on. He quietly sat in the passenger seat and watched the other drive with skillful control.
When Yoonshin thought about it, it was probably the first time Sehun did something like this, as Sehun mentioned. While working at Doguk, Yoonshin could feel from time to time how extraordinary his conditions were when he was recruited to the firm.
Associates aside, even the partners with more years of experience found Sehun difficult. Sehun was the billboard of Doguk and accepted this attitude like it was a given. Yoonshin was told to assist Sehun as a team member by Attorney Song, but even so, using the room across as just another junior was against the unspoken hierarchy and culture of the firm.
âI could have driven you.â
âTouch as little as possible in my car. I donât like when other peopleâs fingerprints get on my stuff.â
Yoonshin immediately folded his hand on top of his briefcase which he meekly placed over his lap. âIt must be the first time youâre behind the wheel with an associate as your passenger. Youâre experiencing something new today.â
âYou keep forgetting what I told you. Thatâs not a good habit.â
âOh, Iâll keep quiet.â
âSay one more word and Iâll kick you out in the middle of the road.â
Intuitively knowing that Sehun would keep his word, Yoonshin pressed his lips in a line and gazed at the other man. Unable to stand it any longer, Sehun whipped his head around while at a stoplight. Their eyes met. The older man glared daggers at Yoonshinâs pale face.
âYouâre not going to keep your eyes to yourself? Your puffy eyelids look so miserable that I hate it.â
âDo I look that miserable?â
âThereâs an invention called a mirror. It was created for people like you to use.â
Yoonshin took out his cellphone and examined his face through his camera.
The reddened eye rims and swollen eyelids were that of a person who spent a sleepless night. Considering how perceptive Sehun was, even if he didnât know Yoonshinâs exact situation, he would immediately realize that the younger man had cried. Oddly enough, this theory explained why Sehun came back for him.
How very odd.
Yoonshin couldnât call Sehun Kang a good person even if there was a knife at his throat. He could readily call him the opposite. Sehun was generally rude, arrogant, vicious, and heartless. But this man, who could sit across from another while calculating his next move, wasnât bad to Yoonshin.
