Chapter 11 – Startling Changes
With this powerful a palm strike, its shock wave would naturally spread to all corners of the sect in a split second.
“Qian Sui! What are you doing!”
The first person to speak was Yue Qingfeng. Not only did he want to help out his Shimei, he especially wanted to assist this old ruffian who would spend all day courting disaster. After this morning’s breakthrough, Yue Qingfeng became the honorable person with the highest cultivation level in the sect. At this time, the mysteries of heaven he could glimpse were beyond compare to an ordinary person’s abilities.
He saw that old man Qian Sui’s Hippocratic face–
His body was chewed into a mangled mass of flesh and blood. Even his soul was not lucky enough to escape, tangled up by tens of thousands of evil spirits in a state worse than death.
This was the handiwork of Jiufeng’s disciple. The ruthlessness of the method made one’s hair stand on end. Yue Qingfeng very much wanted to teach her a lesson, but he could not suppress the demonic nature of this broken army with his own power. Only Di Jiufeng, with the Celestial Pivot in her birth chart, had the power to reform this fiend and release her from her suffering. [T/N: So many things to note here for a section so small. I tried my best. Di Jiufeng is described as 天枢入命格 (tian1 shu1 ru4 ming4 ge2). Tianshu, the Celestial Pivot, is one of the stars in Alpha Ursae Majoris, or Dubhe. I couldn’t find its astrological meaning, maybe one of you knows? It also talks about her power of 普渡 (pu3 du4), ‘ordinary passing through’, a Buddhist concept which refers to ‘delivering [others] from suffering’.]
Yue Qingfeng snorted coldly, treading air to arrive at Di Jiufeng’s side. He didn’t even spare Ning Guang a glance, wielding his own currently superior cultivation to suppress her, then grabbed her right by the collar and tossed her aside onto the grass.
Seeing her disciple roll over twice before stopping, Di Jiufeng really wanted to give Yue Qingfeng a few smacks on the face. “Shixiong, can’t you be a bit more gentle to my disciple?”
“No.” Yue Qingfeng shook his head, completely deadpan. “This urchin who refuses to change her vicious nature, if not for the fact that I don’t have the power I’d really want to teach her a good lesson. Shimei, you must urge your disciple towards virtue, or else sooner or later the cultivation world will meet catastrophe!”
His lips moved soundlessly, his voice transmitted directly into Di Jiufeng’s ear.
Di Jiufeng listened and silently nodded her agreement. She could figure it out, there really were these two things, her disciple would destroy the world and she was sent to reform the ancient witch. It’s just, she definitely could not say these kinds of words.
Calming her breathing by means of the spiritual energy Yue Qingfeng poured into her, Di Jiufeng finally adopted a face full of misery and spoke. “Shixiong’s words were reasonable, I naturally would do that as well, it’s just everyone accuses my disciple of being a reincarnated demon. She doesn’t wish to do evil anymore but is always pushed onto the demonic path, there’s nothing I can do. It’s all because my cultivation is too weak and I can’t block everyone’s mouths to give Ning Guang a good environment to grow up without worries.”
Hearing her words, Yue Qingfeng felt they were very reasonable.
A child’s nature is not fixed, whether they would follow good or evil all depended on how others guided them. They had only calculated Ning Guang’s birth chart to determine she would destroy the world and then thought of all kinds of methods to eliminate her. From one way of thinking about it, if Ning Guang really did take the demonic path, all of them would shoulder a large portion of the responsibility.
Yue Qingfeng quieted, silently flinging out a line of spiritual energy to drag Ning Guang back to her feet. Then, he said to Di Jiufeng, deadly earnest, “Shimei, go ahead and relax, I will demand justice in your behalf.”
After dallying for this small while, all the people who should have come had arrived.
The Sect Leader hurriedly jumped off his sword, running over to Di Jiufeng. “What happened here, why did you start fighting out of nowhere?”
Di Jiufeng lowered her head. Her ice-pale face didn’t hold much resentment, only a kind of barely-suppressed, sorrowful and miserable expression with something else mixed in. “Many thanks to Sect Leader for taking care of me these few years, but Jiufeng was unable to return the favor. If in the future there is anywhere you could use me, do not hesitate to ask, no matter how far I’ll certainly hurry back.”
Di Jiufeng made to leave as soon as she spoke. The Sect Leader was struck dumb in bewilderment.
He and Di Jiufeng were not quite as close as family, but this little girl was sweet in her words and her mind was extremely fine. In the past, she was almost as close as a daughter beside him, and he liked her very much. So, hearing her say she was going to leave, the Sect Leader felt somewhat reluctant. “Jiufeng ah, if something’s the matter you can just tell me, what is this talk of leaving the sect. I know you’re in conflict with Qian Sui, but that’s not something which can’t be resolved. Just tell me first, if it really is his wrong I definitely won’t protect him!”
The Zhangjian Sect Leader had a mild temperament. He always liked to gloss things over, he definitely would not hold onto anything he could plaster over. Things he couldn’t plaster over he would usually minimize. Di Jiufeng was well aware of this, and it was the reason she directly escalated a verbal conflict to massacre of a comrade. But, looking at things now, the weight of this matter still was not enough. [T/N: 和稀泥 (huo4 qi1 ni2), lit. ‘mixing watery mud’. Like spreading mud over your issues.]
The Sect Leader would punish Qian Sui, but with his current attitude, it wouldn’t be any remarkable punishment.
Di Jiufeng’s gaze dulled. Her plan didn’t work out, and she was a bit disappointed in her heart. She suddenly felt a bit of resentment against the Sect Leader’s old good-natured temperament. If only he could be a bit tougher and give Qian Sui a severe punishment today, who would dare bully her disciple in the future with this deterrent in front? But now everything was for naught, she had gotten injured for nothing and added more animosity, and nothing good came of it!

Di Jiufeng suddenly stopped, dejected, crimson skirts spreading out around her like a red spider lily, blooming magnificently while fading to death at the end of the road. “It’s not some major issue, we don’t need to discuss it anymore. I also had some fault in this affair, many thanks for Sect Leader’s concern.”
After reaching this stage, Di Jiufeng could only first show some goodwill to old man Qian Sui. Even though this wouldn’t be much use, any second she could delay would help.
Di Jiufeng adopted a peacekeeping manner on the outside, but internally kept calculating ways to let this Sect Leader who loved glossing things over lay down a severe punishment. It’s just that even massacre of a comrade couldn’t make him toughen up, so what other method could change his softness and make him show some spice?!
Notes:
Re that part at the beginning, I was not sure what it meant earlier but I think Yue Qingfeng just caught a glimpse of what Ning Guang would do to Qian Sui in the future. Qian Sui is currently still fine.
