I swing my sword downwards.
The Paralyze Slime scatters its yellow body in four pieces as the last of its remaining HP is shaved off.
“Wew,”
I take a breath. I have already reached the seventeenth layer of the dungeon.
This place is unlike the lower levels, like the 10th one and below. This place is in the middle levels of the dungeon. The monsters that appear here have grown stronger in accordance, so even with a decent party, a beginner would not have an easy time.
Though I am at level 43, so there was still a huge gap.
Soloing through it is no problem.
It’s just that…
“… Haa,”
Looking at the ground, I breathe a sigh of disappointment.
The bodies of the splattered monsters have already disappeared, but nothing remains.
Sure enough, it dropped nothing. In normal cases, even at the worst of times, it should at least drop a coin…
This was business as usual for me, though. It’s always been like this ever since I became an adventurer. Even then it was still a depressing sight, probably because I’ve just recently witnessed my party members defeat a monster up close and had theirs drop an item.
This skill is just the worst.
I once again come to understand the feeling of the people who have kicked me out. Even I’m fed up with it.
Fortunately though, it didn’t affect the bosses and fixed monster drops so I had high hopes for this dungeon. I have to bring down the boss no matter what and get that item to erase my skill.
But leaving that aside for now…
“What a weird dungeon.”
In the lower levels, the usual slimes and skeletons appeared. But the moment I set in the middle layers, fire-attribute monsters like the Lesser Salamanders and Heat Slimes have come out.
That’s why I thought for sure this dungeon is for fire attribute types, but I’ve been encountering abnormal status appliers like Elec-spiders and Paralyze Slimes. Just what kind of dungeon is this place?
Well, I did hear about some dungeons crop up occasionally with unidentifiable classifications.
After mulling over things, I resumed walking, and then—
“–Kyaaaaaaaa!”
I heard a scream.
I stop and quickly open my status window, opening the map section. I match the mapped areas with the direction of the voice and head out in a sprint. This place is part of the lower middle tiers plus monsters that apply abnormal status effects are a dime a dozen so there was a likelihood that there might just be a party in danger.
Getting nearer, the sounds of combat and monsters become louder.
—And then I find the source.
A band of goblins.
The yellowish skin it brandishes indicates it’s probably a Yellow Goblin equipped with its signature dagger containing a paralyzing poison. On the rear side, there was a figure of a Yellow Goblin Archer equipped with a bow and arrow.
And finally, the goblin’s opponent was swinging a cleric’s mace… is a girl.
Judging from her equipment, her Job Class seems to be that of a priestess. There was no one around who looked like her party members. In other words, she’s alone.
The girl looked desperate as she swung her mace while she gradually retreated as she’s being pushed back by the goblins. There was already a poisonous arrow stuck to her shoulders.
I kick the ground running and strike at the goblin that was approaching the girl. Now, standing in front of the girl, I shout out as I look upon the goblins.
“Are you ok!? Can you cure your status!?”
“Eh! Ah, y-yes.”
“Patch yourself up then! I’ll wall them off!”
As I said that, I stab through the thin part of the neck, extinguishing its existence. A monster like this could be defeated with a single hit from full HP if you can strike its weak spot.
I then deflect the poison arrows coming my way using one of my “Swordsmanship” Skills: Parry
While sending the head of one of them flying, I kick one that was approaching then continue on to break the defense of one that was holding a shield by using another skill: Zantetsu (The sword that cuts iron) as I cut the shield into two.
With this, I’ll annihilate the horde of goblins alone. I can do this much. Don’t underestimate a Hardcore Soloist.
“Two more to go.”
The last two goblins charge at me at the same time.
I defeat the one with reduced HP without difficulty.
But while I got preoccupied with that, the other slipped right past me.
I turn around to shout.
“One of them is headed there!!”
Once I looked, the girl had already raised her mace. She then swung down on the final yellow goblin that drew near her.
“Eiyah!”
The goblin’s head splendidly catches the mace, its body scattering the blow. In the midst of the goblin’s evaporation, which also dropped an item, the girl laughs with a mixture of anxiety and relief.
“Ahehe. Ermmm… Looks like I brought it down.”
