Volume 1 ā€” Different World Life, Start
First Guests
Two years pa.s.sed in a blink.
Today, I woke from the chirping of small birds again.
The day after I was attacked by the wolf in the forest, I didnā€™t set a single step outside my homeā€¦ out of ā€˜G.o.dā€™s Miniature Gardenā€™.
To hear G.o.dsā€™ voices it seems that the skill ā€˜Oracleā€™ is necessary. But this is a very rare skillā€¦ that there are only 3 people in this world that have this skill. Moreover using it well is hard, that the basic is hearing a G.o.dā€™s voice and conversing is rare.
It would be nice if I get the skill some day and talk with himā€¦
It might be impossible now, but Iā€™ll definitely get it!
I got up from bed and checked the exchange diary, a daily ritual for me now.
[Exchange diary] = 3 points added.
[Current points: 31,190]
[Vase: small] 1
[Vase: large] 20
[Fruit seeds set] 10
[Wheat seeds] 50
[Brick: x1] 5
[Bottles: x100] 3
[Bathroom ā€“ Extension] 5,000
[Rooftop ā€“ Extension] 10,000
[Compounding room ā€“ Extension] 15,000
There arenā€™t much new things available for exchange. When I try new things or write what I want in the exchange diary, G.o.d adds new things.
By the way, G.o.dā€™s entry today wasā€¦ about the salad dressings he was into recentlyā€¦ Peaceful and nice.
ā€œMnā€¦ Today, Iā€™ll bake bread and have salad and fried eggs on top of that.ā€
As usual, I went out to the garden and got eggs from the three chickens.
Yes, the chickens that came that day laid eggs, and increased to 3.
ā€œKue~ā€
That cry sounded like it was saying ā€œOkay!ā€ I said ā€œThank you,ā€ to the chickens, harvested some vegetables and headed to the kitchen.
By the way, I found out something amazing about these restoratives (potions). Since the health restorative (high potion) I drank at the forest to heal my wounds tasted like tea, I tried other things too. The result: mana restoratives (mana potions) tasted like black tea and scarlet restoratives (garnet potions) tasted like cola. I couldnā€™t hide my surprise at that. But is it okay for something that is drank urgently like restoratives (potions) to be fizzyā€¦?
To begin with the kitchen, an oven was added.
A brick oven like those for making pizza. Since the winters are cold thereā€™s a lot of use to this. I thought it would make the summers hotter in contrast, but the house was cool as it seemed to release heat easily. i also exchanged more utensils and tableware with points, so now thereā€™s quite a variety. Thereā€™s even a cute tea pot for guests, but there unfortunately are no guests.
In the bas.e.m.e.nt used as storage s.p.a.ce, I am storing harvested food and vegetables there.
Also, I extended it using points. After the first extension, ā€˜the extension that did not expand the roomā€™ had the effect of, believe it or not, not letting goods spoil over time. It took 20,000 points, but Iā€™m using it rather well. So the vegetables or eggs I harvest are always in a fresh state.
When I finished making breakfast, I heard a loud scream from outside. The scream that seemed to pierce the morning air was a young girlā€™sā€¦ mixed with fear. I quickly came out of the house and started running to the source of the scream.
Butā€¦ someone in this forest? That never happened in these 2 years.
ā€œUwaaaaah!ā€
ā€œKirutoā€¦!!ā€
When I came out to the garden, a little distance from the fenced areaā€¦ there was a girl and a boy. The girl had a glistening pretty red curly hair, had a robe on with a cane in her hand. The boy had a short refreshing hair, and looked like swordsmanā€¦ I think. He had a sword, armour and a cloak.
The things which were attacking the two were the ā€˜wolfā€™ monsters I saw before. I looked up later and found out that the wolf is called ā€˜hard wolfā€™. Itā€™s a C rank monster. Just one isnā€™t that dangerous, but when some time is taken it calls its comrades, so itā€™s a dangerous monster. Thus, when getting quests to defeat them, few novice adventurers party up together quite often, or maybe not that often.
There currently are 3 hard wolves in total. The boy was in front of the girl, blocking and countering the attacks. For the girl, there were were stains on her white robe and around her thighā€¦ it was dyed red. Looks like sheā€™s hurtā€¦
ā€œOjou-samaā€¦! Now!!ā€
ā€œKirutoā€¦! Shining fire, take my power as nourishment and manifest as lightā€¦ ā€˜Scorching storm (Firestorm)ā€™!ā€
After the girl chanted something and held her staff out, fire appeared from that and flew towards the hard wolves.
According to the book, ā€˜monstersā€™ of this world disappear without a trace when defeated. Afterwards, like drop items, the material of the monster are left as loot.
ā€œHaaā€¦ haā€¦ā€
ā€œNo, it was all thanks to ojou-samaā€™s magic.ā€
A party of a mage and a swordsmanā€¦ I wonder?
Maybe from relief of defeating 3 hard wolves, the two collapsed on the spot. I canā€™t get to them unless I come out of my home, but it should be alright now. Moreover, itā€™s right nearby so if a monster does come out I can dash at full speed. Now, I am more worried about the girlā€™s injury.
ā€œThat injuryā€¦ are you okay?ā€
ā€œAh! Iā€™m sorry, Iā€™m not anyone suspiciousā€¦?ā€
They got so surprised when I talked to them so I got agitated instead.
The ageā€¦ about a year younger than me. By the way, not my mental age, but I mean my physical ageā€¦ 15.
ā€œWhen didā€¦ā€
ā€œā€œHouse?ā€ā€
ā€œYes, thereā€¦ā€¦ā€
To the two who had question marks on their heads, I pointed towards my house. Then their expression into those of even greater surprise. Rather, the garden isnā€™t small so I though they would have noticedā€¦ Did they not realise because they were desperately defending against the hard wolvesā€¦? Yeah, that surely could happen!
ā€œNo wayā€¦ thereā€™s a house in this forest. Ow!ā€
ā€œIā€™mā€¦ fine.ā€
ā€œAh, if itā€™s restoratives (potions) I have them at my house! Please come in.ā€
I had forgot about it because the girl was enduring silently. Her robes being dyed red.
I invited the two who said they ran out of potions to my home for healing. When I handed them the health restoratives (high potions) I had stored in the bas.e.m.e.nt, they immediately sprayed them on themselves. When the girl said, ā€œThank you,ā€ the boy quickly followed.
ā€œItā€™s the first time Iā€™m inviting someone to this houseā€¦ I feel nervous.ā€
Since there were people in my home, I felt a little embarra.s.sed.
The expanded living room had a round table where around 5, 6 people could sit. It was a calming s.p.a.ce. I served them mana restoratives (mana potions) as tea along with snacksĀ Ā like donuts made by deep frying in olive oil, with sugar. In addition, there is a reason I served mana restoratives (mana potions) as tea. It tastes like black teaā€¦!! I poured the contents into a tea pot and warmed it and added some sugar. Of course, I served them in the tea cups for guests which I wanted to use some time.
ā€œThank you for helping us. I am Cynthia Melditi. This is my escort, Kiruto.ā€
ā€œDonā€™t worry about itā€¦ Ah, Iā€™m Hinami.ā€
While feeling surprised at how a girl younger than me could speak like that, I a.s.sumed that she would be a n.o.ble girl. Rather, from the point that she had an escort, itā€™s already a bingo.
ā€œā€¦This is, a mana restorative (mana potion)!? But the tasteā€¦!ā€
ā€œAh, yes. Mana restoratives (mana potions) are delicious.ā€
With her lips on the cup, Cynthia-sanā€¦ Mn, sheā€™s mature so I should add -san, I think? That Cynthia-san raised her voice in surprise. I wonder if itā€™s possible to know the drink instantly. She used magic so her mana has gone down, but it got restoredā€¦ something like that? By the way, even if I have it, I can only taste black tea. Strangeā€¦!
ā€œWhat are you talking about, ojou-samaā€¦ th-this is!!!ā€
ā€œItā€™s delicious, right!?ā€
I wonder whatā€™s wrongā€¦ I wonder if thereā€™s a problem with the tasteā€¦ Iā€™m getting a little anxious.
Noticing my troubled expression, Cynthia-san said, ā€œIā€™m sorry for surprising you,ā€ and told me the reason why she was surprised.
ā€œNormally, mana restoratives (mana potions) are disgustingā€¦ā€
ā€œā€¦It seems you need to try some. Try drinking this. Itā€™s a normal mana restorative (mana potion) sold in the stores in the city.ā€
ā€œAh, yesā€¦ā€
ā€œā€¦Nn. ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦Urk!!!ā€
I was going to take a sip and roll it around my tongueā€¦ or so I planned. I choked from the first sip. Whatā€™s thisā€¦ something like barley tea and aojiru[1]Ā and milk mixed together? Well, I never drank that, but stillā€¦
ā€œIndeed. Mana restoratives (mana potions) are bitter and disgusting. Itā€™s a necessity for mages, but the taste is the wordā€¦ā€
ā€œIndeed. Normally, something rare like this isnā€™t served as teaā€¦ā€
ā€œAnd not only does this mana restorative (mana potion) taste good, but also is very effectiveā€¦ this restores a lot more than the one I hadā€¦! Where did you get something so amazing?ā€
I ended up coughing because it was so disgusting. I wonder if I was rudeā€¦
And, according to Cynthia-san, it seems that the mana restoratives (mana potion) I make are quite amazing. But I made them in a blink with a skillā€¦ I feel so guilty, I canā€™t tell them. Because theyā€™re enjoying it a lotā€¦!
ā€œMnā€¦ I canā€™t tell you how, but I made those restoratives (potions).ā€
ā€œButā€¦ arenā€™t around you my age?ā€
The two let out sounds of surprise. Then, possibly not believing that I, someone the same age as her, made them, Cynthia-san had her eyes wide open.
ā€œSo you are aā€¦ chemister.ā€
ā€œAh, yesā€¦ for the time beingā€¦ā€¦ā€
ā€˜Chemisterā€™. Itā€™s a kind of job.
It refers to people who makes restoratives (potions) using herbs. In addition, their knowledge of herbs has to be vast. My knowledge isnā€™t that much, so Iā€™m not sure if I can call myself a chemister though. Especially since it feels unfair as I make the restoratives (potions) using a skill. ā€œThatā€™s how it is. Ahahaā€¦ā€ was all I could say.
ā€œā€¦Erm, Hinami-sama.ā€
ā€œIf possible, can we take a few restoratives (potions)? We ran out of them, so Iā€™m not sure if we can safely return to the city like thisā€¦ā€
ā€œAh, thank youā€¦!ā€
Thanks to Kiruto-kun, the slightly tense atmosphere got soft.
I said, ā€œIā€™ll go get them right away,ā€ and headed to the bas.e.m.e.nt. I placed health restoratives (high potions), scarlet restoratives (garnet potions) and mana restoratives (mana potions) in a bag. I didnā€™t know how many would be enough so I put ten of each. Itā€™s bulging.
ā€œPlease take this.ā€
ā€œThereā€™s a lot so itā€™s alright.ā€
Seeing the bag full of restoratives (potions) Kiruto-san raised his voice in surprise. When Kiruto-san took the bag, Cynthia-san promptly thanked me. Sheā€™s smaller than me, but sheā€™s very polite. But then the two of them looked troubled. When I had a question mark on my head because I didnā€™t know why, Cynthia-san explained.
ā€œThank youā€¦! But we donā€™t have much on us right nowā€¦ Can we only take 5 health restoratives (high potions) and 1 mana restorative (mana potion)?ā€
ā€œWellā€¦ we were only planning to go out hunting for just a bitā€¦ a forest of the lost is quite scary, isnā€™t it?ā€
Er~m.
Forest of the lost? No, I mean, the potions! Rather, such a little girl worrying about moneyā€¦! She could just let herself get spoiled. No, could it be that you canā€™t be spoiled much in this world unlike in j.a.panā€¦
ā€œNo, I donā€™t need money.ā€
ā€œEhhhā€¦ how troubling. You really donā€™t have to worry. Moreover, itā€™s worse if something happens to you two because you didnā€™t take everything. Right?ā€
ā€œAhā€¦ uuā€¦ā€
When I smiled and said, ā€œRight?ā€ again, Cynthia-san said, ā€œAlright,ā€ and received them. Mn-mn, thatā€™s the way.
ā€œBut, Iā€™ll definitely visit again to payā€¦!ā€
ā€œEhā€¦ okay, then you can that.ā€
Ehehe,Ā I giggled. Iā€™m honestly quite happy. Because I can meet people again with thisā€¦!
Influenced by me being like that, Cynthia-san and Kiruto-san also chuckled. Mn, around 10, I think? Smilingā€™s the best.
ā€œNow, have some donuts and relax.ā€
ā€œSorry, itā€™s our first meeting, yet youā€™re this kindā€¦ā€
ā€œItā€™s okay, itā€™s okay!ā€
I did not know yet that they would raise their voices while eating the donuts.
