The next day, I got up as soon as the sun rose into the sky. Then I woke up Grulf, who was sleeping next to me.
âGrulf. Letâs take a walk.â
Grulf replied lazily. It seemed like he wanted to sleep more.
âWe have a busy day ahead of us. So I wonât be able to take you out on your walk any other time.â
Grulf yawned and stretched his limbs.
And then we went out on a morning walk. Shia, Nia, and Serulis tagged along.
They had also gotten up early in order to practice.
Grulf had been tired at first, but he was now running around excitedly.
However, his walk would have to be quite short today.
âGrulf. Itâs time to go back. I have work to do.â
He looked a bit disappointed but came back obediently. He was a very smart wolf pup.
After that, we ate breakfast and then returned to making the magic tools.
Kathe, Mors, and even Luchila worked hard.
Thanks to them, we were able to complete 12 magic tools shortly after midday.
âNow we can deliver these to all twelve of the beastkin tribes.â
âThatâs true. We should do that as soon as possible, once weâve installed one in this mansion.â
âYes. I can take you there when we need to go!â
And so I installed the magic tool in Dantonâs mansion.
Danton watched us with a serious expression on his face.
âThis is a tremendous help, Locke. And you too, Miss Kathe and Mister Mors. Thank you so much.â
âDonât mention it! It was very educational for me!â
âI am happy to have been of service.â
Kathe and Mors looked pleased.
After that, I explained to Danton how it was used.
âNow, dark wraiths should find it impossible to enter. And once the barrier rejects them, there should be a sound.â
âThey canât enter at all? Thatâs amazing.â
âItâs because we are using Lord Gerbergaâs feathers. And also Grulfâs nails.â
âThe God Fowlâs own feathers⊠Lord Gerberga and Grulf, thank you!â
Lord Gerberga flapped his wings. Grulf wagged his tail proudly.
âLocke. Is there anything that we should be careful about?â
âYes. It will continue to stay activated if you leave it alone. And when you hear something, youâll know that there is a dark wraith nearbyâŠâ
âAnd we should go kill it? Thatâs very useful.â
âYeah. But this is only for this mansion. It does not cover the entire village.â
âHmm. So it wonât necessarily react if there is a dark wraith within the settlement?â
âYes. Donât think that youâll hear anything if there is a dark wraith on the outskirts.â
And then I remembered something important.
I needed to strengthen the walls as well. Mors had cast some strengthening magic on them.
However, it was only temporary, and it would not last long.
âI shall cast some strengthening magic on your walls.â
âReally? Wouldnât that be a hassle?â
âNot really. Donât worry about it. After all, they might destroy the magic tool one day, so it would be safer if your walls were reinforced.â
âI see. Thank you, Locke.â
The barrier would stop dark wraiths.
However, it was possible that an arch vampire could force their way through the barrier and break the device.
And so it was necessary to strengthen the walls of the mansion so they couldnât enter the building.
And so I turned to Kathe, Mors, and Luchila.
âIâm going to cast some strengthening magic now. You should watch.â
âUnderstood. I am very happy to be able to see you use magic up close.â
âI will learn from it too!â
âYes. I will watch closely!â
And so I worked slowly so that they could see what I was doing.
Luchila also observed with a serious expression.
It was good that she was curious. And so I worked even slower, so she could understand.
âIf you do this, the durability is increased.â
âMister Locke. How do you raise longevity?â
âAh, because your magic was just temporary, Mors?â
âYes. I have trouble keeping it stable if I want it to last more than 2 or 3 days.â
âIn that case, you leave this part like this but changeâŠâ
I demonstrated it in front of him.
It was the same magic I had cast on my mansion and the secret passage.
Regardless if you were a vampire or sorcerer, you would have trouble getting in.
âNow the strengthening magic will last forever. Itâs similar to what they do in the palaceâs treasure room.â
âBut I heard that it takes the palace sorcererâs months to do?â
âThatâs because they donât have enough magic energy. But you and Kathe should have more than enough.â
âI see. Thatâs probably true.â
Wind dragons and water dragons were of the advanced species.
And Kathe and Mors were in the royal family, which meant they were especially powerful. There was no comparison between them and human sorcerers.
They could do in minutes what it took the palace sorcerers months.
âBut I donât think I could do it in a few minutes.â
Luchila said sadly. But there was nothing abnormal about not being able to match a royal dragon.
âI see. Well, as long as you can do something similar, it doesnât matter if it takes longer.â
âYes, I will do my best.â
Luchila was still growing. Her magic would grow more powerful eventually.
And who knows what she would be capable of then.
I looked towards Kathe and Mors.
âWell, thatâs how itâs done. Kathe. Mors. Do you think you can do it?â
âLeave it to me. I will do it.â
âI will try to. But tell me if I do anything wrong.â
Mors seemed confident. Kathe seemed like she would just give it a try, regardless of the results.
And so Mors and Kathe tried doing it. They were both quick to learn.
And they finished casting the magic on the walls in no time.
âMister Locke. How is it?â
âWhat about my magic?â
âYou both did it perfectly.â
âIâm very happy to hear that from you, Mister Locke.â
Once we were half done with our workâŠ
âI will do the rest of it. You should go and deliver the magic tools to the other mansions.â
