âPlease follow me. I would like to introduce you to Sir Danton Woolcott.â
âYes. Thank you.â
As I started to walk, Mors called me with an apologetic voice.
âUm, Mister Locke.â
âWhat is it?â
âItâs probably very insolent of me to even ask this of you, butâŚâ
Mors said.
Then he asked me to talk to him more casually.
âAh, but you are my instructor now, Mister MorsâŚâ
When I said this, Kathe opened her mouth and let out a boisterous laugh.
âBut you donât talk to me like that. And I am the ruler of the wind dragons. So itâs no surprise that Mors would feel awkward. Donât you think?â
âReally?â
âYes. Besides, the water dragons see you as a great hero, Locke.â
âTheyâre exaggerating.â
Mors heard this and declared in an enthusiastic voice.
âItâs not an exaggeration at all!â
âI-I seeâŚâ
Kathe grinned and said,
âI suppose so. In any case, I think theyâll be very angry with Mors when they find out heâs been forcing you to speak to him like this.â
âI donât think so.â
ââŚYes. They definitely will.â
Mors agreed quietly. But then he quickly added,
âBut! Mister Locke, you must, of course, use whatever you are comfortable with!â
If Mors would get in trouble because of it, then I suppose I could change the way I talked to him.
âIn that case, I will be less respectful.â
âThank you. I hope itâs not a problem?â
Mors said apologetically.
âNo, itâs obviously much easier.â
âThank you!â
Mors said with visible relief.
And then we headed for Dantonâs room.
Grulf led the way as if it were the most natural thing. His tail proudly pointed upwards.
âGrulf, you want to lead us?â
âGroof.â
I had an idea where Danton was.
He was likely in the chiefâs room.
Grulf sniffed the air and advanced slowly.
âMister Grulf. Thank you.â
âGroof!â
Grulfâs tail wagged as Mors thanked him.
And then Grulf stopped in front of the chiefâs room.
So Danton was here after all.
âThank you, Grulf.â
âGroof!â
I patted him on the head. Grulfâs tail wagged happily.
When that was finished, the door opened from the other side.
Danton looked at us.
âAh, Locke. I was wondering why you wouldnât come inside.â
âSorry. I was just petting Grulf, since he escorted us all the way here.â
âAh, well. That is important as well.â
Danton said with a nod.
Beastkin had good noses and ears.
He had known we were behind the door all along.
And then he had become tired of waiting and come out to greet us.
âGroof!â
Grulf pressed into Danton.
âGood-good.â
Danton petted him as he looked at us.
âAnd who is this?â
âMister Mors. A water dragon. I brought him here to introduce him to you, Mister Danton.â
âI am Mors. Itâs nice to meet you.â
âDanton Woolcott. I am one of the beastkin chiefs. Please come insideâŚâ
After these introductions, he invited us into the room.
At the same time, he ordered for someone to bring us some tea.
And so we sat down.
Grulf sat next to me and rested his jaw on my knee.
Grulf liked both Danton and Mors, and was able to relax around them.
Mors quickly bowed.
âThank you for all the help you have offered us water dragons.â
âNo, thank you for giving us such a treasured swordâŚâ
Mors and Danton thanked each other.
When it seemed like they were finished, I said,
âBy the way, about why Mors came here. He is going to help me create the magic tools that will be installed in this mansion.â
âThank you so much for that.â
Danton bowed his head to Mors again.
There was a possibility that someone who had been âCharmedâ by a vampire had infiltrated the settlement.
And so we would create tools that could detect them.
With Mors and Dorgo helping me, I believed I could make something truly spectacular.
