As I looked through the personnel of the Ancient Ruins Protection Committee, Milka brought in our breakfast.
âDonât mention it!â
âMilka, youâve apparently been appointed as Secretary-General. Did you know?â
âMiss Kathe told me about it!â
âI donât know what these Secretary Generals are supposed to do, but it is supposed to be an honor!â
Milka looked happy. Well, I guess it was fine then.
As we talked like that, Eric came in.
âMister Eric. Welcome! Will you be eating breakfast?â
âThank you, Milka. But I have already had breakfast.â
âI see. Well, Iâll put on some tea then.â
âKathe made this for the committee.â
âOh, how thoughtful.â
Kathe looked a little nervous.
âHmmm. Itâs wonderful.â
âIsnât it! Isnât it!â
After that, Goran and Serulis woke up as well.
And so we ate breakfast along with Shia, Nia, Milka, Luchila and Lord Gerberga.
At the table, I said to Eric,
âAbout the matter concerning Luchilaâs tribeâŚâ
âHm? What matter? Do you mean the council that only males can attend? Or about the land?â
I hadnât actually told Eric about it.
Perhaps Goran had told him.
I thought as I glanced over to Goran.
He was preoccupied with a sausage he was biting into.
âAh, then you need not worry. I have already taken care of them.â
ââŚTaken care of them?â
Eric took a sip of tea and explained.
âThe place where Luchilaâs village was located is now under my direct control.â
âHow did you manage that?â
âIt was easy. The landlord came crying to me over issues of money, and so I allowed a partial tax exemption in exchange for that land.â
âHuh. How lucky. Does that happen often?â
âIt rarely happens a lot.â
Eric ignored me and continued.
âAs for the councils, I applied some pressure. If they do not change by the time Luchila is of age, then I will have to apply even more pressure.â
This was all much better than I had been expecting.
Which was all the more surprising because I hadnât even told him about it.
âEric. Did you know that Luchila was a girl?â
Goran looked surprised. So that meant that it hadnât been Goran who told him.
âOf course, I did. I mean, you didnât notice? That is most shocking to meâŚâ
Eric looked at me with exasperation.
âWell, there you go. Luchila.â
âYour Majesty. Thank you so much for everything.â
Luchila and Lord Gerberga bowed.
âDonât worry about it.â
âLuchila, if there is anything else still worrying you, you should tell Eric about it.â
âIndeed. I donât know if I will be able to help you, but it wonât hurt to ask.â
Eric said with a gentle smile.
âYour Majesty, I have nothing left to wish for.â
âThatâs fine then. Well, it doesnât have to be now, either. Let me know if you think of something later.â
âOr you can tell Ruck, if thatâs easier.â
When everyone was finished eating, the mansionâs door bell began to ring.
It was just as I was washing dishes with my apprentices.
âOh, a guest. I will go answer it since Iâm not doing anything!â
âDonât open the gate, alright?â
Milkaâs main role was to cook the food.
And so she didnât have to wash the dishes.
As we washed the dishes, Nia said,
âI wonder who it is?â
âWell, since it is morning, it could be urgent.â
âThat would be very troublesome.â
Lord Gerberga rested on Luchilaâs shoulder as she washed the dishes.
âMister Locke! Mister Locke!â
âWhat is it? Calm down.â
Milka looked a little frantic.
âSomeone with wings and a tail has just arrived!â
ââŚUh, someone like Kathe?â
âExactly! But this one is an old gramp!â
âYou shouldnât call someone that if they are a guest.â
I left the rest of the dishes to Nia and Luchila and headed for the gate.
I could see that there was a man standing on the other side.
He was dressed like a noble and was very tall.
Even taller than Goran, who was much larger than average.
And I could also see his thick tail and small wings. Just like Kathe.
(Heâs probably a dragon. But then again, dragons who can become humans are incredibly rare.)
I thought as I reached the gate.
âSorry to keep you waiting. I am the lord of this house. Locke.â
âI am truly sorry to disturb you at this early hour. I am Katheâs father, Dorgo Celestia.â
âAh, Katheâs father!â
âYou have been most kind to my daughter.â
âNo, it is we who have been helped.â
âPlease come inside. Then we can talk.â
Katheâs father was surprisingly modest.
He was the previous Wind Dragon King.
And what business could he have with me?
I was just a little bit nervous.
