“Good gracious, how irritating! I really can’t bear those royal guys!”
It was a few hours before the meeting.
The setting was the parlor in Supreme God Granverite’s mansion.
A corpulent priest raised his voice inside the luxurious room befitting the supreme deity.
“They’re doubting the Shrine just because a bit of filth appeared! This is equivalent to being suspecting the power of deities1 Amalda-sama, there’s no way the divine protection of the gods will end as long as you, the favored one of the Supreme God, are here! The deities wield their power precisely because of you! Even if they’re royalty, this is blasphemy!”
“Really, Renaldo-sama, ‘favor’ is a bit…”
Amalda was sitting on top of the first-class sofa which was also the best seat inside the parlor.
She was surrounded by the young priests as usual, but her cheeks were flushed because of what Renaldo, the portly priest, said.
“You’re exaggerating as usual. I’ll be troubled.”
Indeed, it was a fact that Amalda, the one and only saintess chosen by the supreme deity.
Among the saintesses who hadn’t even seen the appearance of their own deities, she was one of the few “genuine saintesses” who could truly serve the deities in the truest sense.
It was also true that the supreme deity treasured her.
He was taciturn and spoke very infrequently, but — he never rebuked her even if she conversed with the priests inside his mansion.
Even if they were priests, they were still young men.
If her partner was a deeply jealous person, he would certainly criticize her, but since the supreme god didn’t say a word about it, she felt his strong faith in her.
‘Granverite-sama also understands how I feel. These priests come everyday, after all. I’m happy that they’re concerned about a lot of things, but still…it’s a bother.’
Amalda didn’t summon these priests, of course.
It’s hard being the saintess of the supreme deity — those young priests only pushed themselves on her using this reasoning.
Amalda didn’t wish to be surrounded, it’s just the natural course of things.
‘I can’t ignore their sincerity, after all.’
She didn’t have the heart to chase away those who went out of their way to come.
The supreme deity surely sympathized with Amalda’s feelings.
She didn’t think she’s doing anything wrong, and that it’s the taciturn god’s proof of love.
However, even if she was indeed loved, it was uncomfortable declaring it with such a loud voice.
Amalda was flustered so she casted her eyes down, then she shook her head lightly.
“To say that divine protection exists because of me…I am just doing my best for Granverite-sama. I’m just helping him so that he can easily invoke his power.”
“Ohh!!”
Renald exclaimed as if he was overcome by emotion when he heard what Amalda said.
“Oh my, so humble, so modest…Because of your heart’s purity, you are the epitome of a genuine saintess!”
The man was trembling as he uttered those words, and the surrounding priests bobbed their heads in agreement like chickens.
“Indeed, indeed, it’s as Renald-sama said! You can’t find a Saintess as excellent as her even if you go back in time!”
“Amalda-sama is here, so there’s no way the Shrine is mistaken! We just have to find a way to let the royals see this truth!”
“If that’s the case, then shouldn’t this be the time to show a mighty display of the saintess’ prestige? We must open a temple festival and make her magnificence known to the world! The royal family will definitely wake up if Amalda-sama, the sole person who receives the divine protection of Granverite-sama, appears before them!”
The priests started heaping praises to Amalda, perhaps afraid that Renald would beat them to the punch.
Amalda wryly smiled as they kept on shooting compliments as if trying to outdo one another.

‘This is quite troublesome. They know I’m Granverite’s Saintess, and yet…’
Amalda, the Saintess of the Supreme Deity, was still a woman that was way out of their league, no matter how much their tongues wagged.
She was an existence akin to an unattainable flower blooming on a high peak.
Despite this fact, these priests still continued their competition of praising her to high heavens, so Amalda unconsciously narrowed her eyes as she listened.
She didn’t do it out of scorn. She wasn’t looking down at them, either.
She meant no harm as she subconsciously smirked —
Somebody abruptly knocked on the door of the parlor.
The chants of praises still hadn’t dissipated inside the room.
Yet, they could hear the voice of the maid serving in the mansion talking to someone reservedly outside the door.
“Amalda-sama. The Count of Cervan’s eldest young master, Eric-sama, has come to visit you. He has urgent matters to discuss with you, but —”
‘Eric?’
Amalda blinked, a smile still pasted on her face.
The name that the maid uttered wasn’t something she expected.
The esteemed son of Count Cervan, Eric…
‘Eh, who?’
—– T/N: Sorry for changing Granverite-sama’s name halfway through. Not that we encounter it that often, though, so I think it’s still okay. Anyway, it’s just weird calling someone Grand Verite, even if it’s the supreme deity of all time, and just in case we’re going to encounter more of him in the future, I want to make it less cringy (but it’s still cringy ugh) XD Fuu.. Reminds me of Aquasteed — the name of the ML from some other novel (I forgot the title, but the name stuck). Like, seriously, what the heck, dude? Might ‘seem’ impressive in JP, but super duper urk when tl’d. XD
