The next dayās exhibition was almost the same as the last one.
In other words, there was nothing worth mentioning.
Thatās all.
And while we were on our way to the third apostleās base, I asked the teacher about something that had been bothering me.
āTeacher, is it possible that this is the pattern weāve been following all along?ā
āWhat pattern?ā
āIn the past, the machines were working. The apostles are amazing. Their descendants are stupid for not following their teachings.ā
The teacherās face became deeply puzzled.
āDonāt just sum up a pilgrimage that moves so many people in just three lines ā¦ā¦
āAhh, Iād like to hear that, too. I was just thinking, itās weird.ā
The teacher gave the mourning woman Silvana a dirty old manās grin.
āYour clothes?ā
āNo! Before I started my pilgrimage ā¦ā¦ I was so excited to get to know the history of the apostles and I feel like I can get closer to them.ā
Thatās usually the case.
I nodded my head in agreement.
āI guess we all are.ā
Silvana, the mourning woman, folded her arms.
āItās like ā¦ā¦ now, like how Al said. Is it going to be like this all over again? Thatās what I thought. I donāt know where I changed my mind, though.ā
The teacher turned away.
āWell, just think of it as a formalityā¦ā
āI mean, itās the same. I feel like Iām being shown a lazy, overused play.ā
The teacherās expression was blatantly disgusted.
āIāve chaperoned a few pilgrimages in my time. Youāre the first people Iāve ever seen react that way, you know?ā
The mourning woman Silvana, who had been making a difficult face, looked as if she had realized something.
āSo youāre saying that ā¦ā¦ Iāve been contaminated by Alās cold, emotionless pilgrimage?ā
āIām not cold, and Iām not emotionless.ā
They gave me a blank stare.
ā āNo, you are.ā ā
Oh, no, Iāll be the culprit if it keeps going like this.
āIād like to declare my objection.ā
āOverruled.ā
Thatās so sad.
āMs. Silvana. Itās not good to blame others. If youāre being influenced by outside forces on your own, that was the extent of your interest.ā
āMugu ā¦ā¦ no, I donāt think so ā¦ā¦.ā
I canāt let myself be made the culprit here.
Itās too dangerous to show weakness to these two people.
It is a tragic fate to be used as a snack.
Itās only been two months since I started my pilgrimage, and what if they keep using me as a story for the next four months? Donāt kid with me.
āYouāre on pilgrimage to get acquainted with the apostles, arenāt you? That would be your ultimate goal.ā
āThatās ā¦ā¦ true.ā
āThe purpose of this pilgrimage is to trace the Apostlesā accomplishments and increase their respect. In other words, the purpose was different from the beginning.ā
I donāt have any respect for them, though.
The mourning woman Silvana, flinched blatantly.
āGeho.ā
I have to avoid the word ācauseā and go after her.
We have to be on the offensive here.
If there was a real lawyer, they would have kicked me out, but she an amateur.
I should be able to do it.
I stick my finger in her face like a lawyer in a video game.
āSo, in the end, itās a matter of your heart, Ms. Silvana! Repent!ā
The mourning woman, Silvana, couldnāt help but give the teacher a look as if to ask for help.
āHey, virgin! Do something about it!ā
The teacher wisely avoided a fight.
He dropped his shoulders and gave a small shake of his head.
āIām sorry, but Iāve never been able to win an argument against the kiddo in my life ā¦ā¦ This guy is so scary that he attacks peopleās weaknesses with precision and logic ā¦ā¦ā
āYou heartless man!ā
I managed to defend it.
At any rate, Iāve never had this perspective, though.
After all, another personās point of view gives vitality to our thoughts.
I wonder if apostles are capable of influencing peopleās minds.
Iāve been feeling a little stuck, I guess I should take a leap of faith for a change ā¦ā¦
Iām so focused on the theory that Iām at a standstill, after all.
I think Iām too biased towards theories to begin with.
Itās a bad habit of mine.
Letās go back to the root.
God may not be able to interfere physically, but he can interfere with the mind and soul.
If you get power from it, it can influence your mind.
And unconsciously too.
If Iām right, this is a very troubling story.
But if the people around him are ruined after his death, then there must be some kind of influence.
If you donāt have the know-how to operate something like a railroad, you canāt operate it.
But during the apostleās lifetime, it is possible to do so.
When the apostles are gone, there will be no way to fool them.
Can we use the knowledge that was passed down to us while the apostleās power is still intact?
Operational know-how is a kind of thing that is different from strength or magic.
I wish I knew the details of how it resulted in failure.
