Both you and Tsinghua belong to me.
– Jiang Su
{ No matter how many years have passed, both Jiang Su and Lin Wei could forget that day, the day where they first met. }
…
No. 4 Secondary School 11th Grade Class (1) is located quite far from the staircase. Lin Wei who took three days off from sick leave returns to school. Walking down the corridor with her heavy backpack, she sensed the presence of eeriness, as if something was out of the ordinary.
The silence emphasized the strange feeling.
Twenty-seven minutes away from self-study, it was odd that no one made a noise.
Class one, occupied by a myriad of silent people, Lin Wei was the last to arrive.
The whole class was obedient, similar to elementary students. Quietly reading books, or just dazing at it, or maybe dozing off behind them.
Class one usually gathers all the top-performing students in the school’s science department. Every one of them has brought great achievements to the school and usually isn’t the type to just quiet down and read.
She was only gone for three days. In such a short amount of time, why did everyone change so drastically?
Wondering if she’s in a state of sleepwalking, she sat down, took out a notebook, and slightly patted her deskmate who was about to doze off and asked, “What’s going on?”
Lin Wei’s desk mate’s name was Bai Jian. Ironically her skin was not white (Bai) at all.
Bai Jian, upon hearing Lin Wei’s voice, immediately said “ Shhhh, for the three days you were gone, something big happened to our class.”
“Have you heard about Jiang Su?”
Lin Wei nods her head and replies: “Indeed, Jiangsu province.”
“The capital is Nanjing, located off the east coast of Mainland China, towards the north is Shandong near the yellow sea, with Zhejiang and Shanghai accompanying its Southwest and to the Anhui towards the West.”
“…..”
Bai Jian stayed silent for a while, “Okay, I suppose I will tell you.” Opening her book, she stated: “The Jiang Su I’m talking about, is not Jiangsu province. It’s a person named Jiangsu.”
“You know the Jiangsu who’s a grade ahead of us and scored number one out of the whole province in the secondary school examination, who was then later invited to be an honor student at this school? He was always the Pride and Joy of the No.4 Secondary school and every competition with him, the school would gain just a little more reputation! Until he fell to the rock bottom.”
“I’ve heard that during winter break of his 11th year, there was a big fight that caused him serious injuries. Everybody thought he was going to win, however, the polar opposite happened and he was beaten up real bad.
Lin Wei, seeing that her deskmate is so hyped talking about this guy, she felt obligated to give her at least some attention even though she was not interested whatsoever and replied with an “Oh.”
“After the break, he hasn’t come to school in a whole school year. Do you know where he was this whole year? It appears that he was omitted at a psych ward. People said that his mental illness hasn’t even been fully cured yet, but due to his family’s wealth, he was able to be discharged early and not only that, return to school. The crazy part is that he’s going to be our class! Picking up from where he left off last year.”
“You don’t even know. With the two days of him being here, the entire class has become awfully obedient. No! Not only our class, the entire grade! People even avoid using the restroom unless they’re about to get sick. Just so no one would upset that weirdo.”
“He came the day before yesterday, I’ve heard that the second he arrived at school, he forcibly kissed some girl and even beat up her boyfriend. Rumor has it that he likes to mess with people who are already taken and whoever has a boyfriend he will go play with them.”
“This Jiangsu…” Lin Wei reaction’s, hard to describe. She thinks to herself, if everything happened supposedly to the rumors, then he no doubt is not a weirdo, but “a complete idiot!”
Bai Jian, in shock, tucks on Lin Wei’s sleeves under the tables and whispers “ quiet.”
With Bai Jian quieting down, the front row begins passing back homework packets.
Though Lin Wei was off for three days, she still finished the daily homework that was assigned to her and even asked her mom to drop it off for her.
Lin Wei and Bai Jian’s’ seats are located in the second to last row, but in actual reality, it’s considered the last row since the seats behind her are empty.
The person sitting in front of Bai Jian didn’t even look back and just tossed it onto Bai Jian’s desk. And as for Lin Wei, she was handed two homework packets.
Lin Wei, confused about why there were two packets, was suddenly elbowed by her deskmate: “ That Jiang Su, sits right behind you. I must warn you that he’s probably up to no good…”
Thinking about what she said earlier about Jiang Su right in front of his face. Lin Wei felt a sudden rush of awkwardness. Quietly she asked Bai Jian “Hey, what I said earlier… Do you think he could hear it?”
“Um, probably not? It was just when the teacher came in to pass out homework.”
“Are you absolutely sure?” Lin Wei questioned.
“Actually, I’m not that sure.”
“If he heard me, do you think he’ll beat m-”
Before Lin Wei could finish her sentence, she felt a pen poking her shoulder.
She shook her head down and saw a particularly good looking hand.
Distinctive structure and beautifully long fingers… however its too pale, so pale that gives someone a sense of coldness.
The person who poked her with a pen saw that Lin Wei had no reaction for a long time. Impatient, he stood up and pounded his hand on the table. He did not have his school uniform on and even in the classroom, he was wearing a cap that was covering his face and the only visible part is a bit of his chin.
He picked up his pen, pointed it at Lin Wei, seeing that she did not react, he stood up and attempted to reach for his practice book. In his cold, intolerant,, and unhappiness voice he said: “How long are you going to stay on top of me.”
Lin Wei: “….”
Jiang Su wasn’t loud, however, he still caught the attention of many people up in the front row.
Though not hearing the conversation, everyone in the classroom had a sense of what’s going on in the back of the classroom.
In a state of silence, Lin Wei was shocked by what Jiang Su had said to her earlier. She slowly looked up and all she could see was the small part of Jiangsu’s reflective chin.
“What he said earlier, was he trying to flirt with me?” Lin Wei thought
He is indeed trying to flirt with her.
It seems that Bai Jian was right. The new kid sure has some sort of problems with his brain.
Jiang Su waited for a while and it seems like the girl in front of her had no intention of handing over his homework packet and stood up slightly more so that he could reach his arm further.
His chin following the movements of the rest of his body.
Lin Wei could now see his lips, the color was faint and the shape was also pretty, like the perfect epitome of an artist’s look.
Seeing that the distance between his lips and hers are closing. Lin Wei suddenly thought of Bai Jian’s words.
The first day that he came to school, he forcibly kissed a girl, and rumors said that he’ll mess with anyone that has a boyfriend.
“Is he going to lay his hands on me?”
Seeing that Jiang Su is getting closer to her with no signs of stopping, she subconsciously blurted out: “I do not have a boyfriend.
Jiang Su stopped for a moment
Most of his face was hidden in his hoodie, it was hard to see what his expression was like.
However, LIn Wei could see that Jiang Su glance turned towards her lips, and she instinctively sipped her lips.
Jiang Su let out a quirky laugh. With ridicule and disdain, he proceeded to snatch both homework packets out of Lin Wei’s hands.
He took the top one and threw it back onto Lin Wei’s desk, sat back at his seat, and casually tossed his pack onto his desk.
Lin Wei: “….”
At this moment the bell rang, Self-reading time now begins.
The class is full of sounds of silent reading
Lin Wei took out her English vocabulary book and started silently rehearsing.
After a while, the sound of rehearsing faded. She looked at her homework packet and all she could think about is her embarrassment.
“How long are you going to stay on top of me.”
How long are you (packet) going me stay on top of me (my packet)
Not only was Lin Wei’s back desk occupied by a weirdo, but but he was also an acronym god.
