Chapter 183: The Usual Bickering
「Huh, what’s that? 」
「I don’t think the spirit possessing Reid is a unicorn. 」
Ah, but can’t do anything about it if that sort of thing is known as a unicorn in this world.
「Is it not? 」
「It’s something horse-ish. It’s personal information so… 」
He’s not an enemy, but not an ally either. I don’t feel comfortable talking about the spirit possessing someone if they aren’t involved in an incident.
Actually, I also asked Dinosso and Shiva after I confirmed the shocking truth that folks don’t actually See how the spirits actually look. They told me they can See En’s squirrel.
Spirits who favor humans would let their target and the folks close to that person See their appearance as a way of showing approval, apparently.
That’s a given for powerful spirits, but for the normal ones you find everywhere, people must have the ability to See first or else that condition isn’t applicable. So, even if En can See spirits, Dinosso and Shiva’s spirits are the prideful sort so they probably won’t appear to him.
… Then what about me huh, I can totally See all of them.
「Hmm if somebody did See then maybe it’s the temple? Not by a person who can See per se, but someone using a magic circle, that’s my guess. If the spirit resisted then that sort of folks usually run out of mana before they can even See clearly. Well, they can be quite the fawner if paid handsomely. 」
「So you’re saying they only get a very brief ‘view’ of the spirit, kinda like a sneak peek, but they exaggerated what they Saw and made it out to be something else, just to impress? 」
Thank goodness, it seems like I wasn’t mistaken with how I imagined what a unicorn would be.
「If it’s not because of the spirit, then is he really a pervert? 」
「Tina is cute, but this is worrying. 」
「Reid looks like a prince, but he’s a bit creepy~ 」
That’s the parents’ opinion and the child in question’s true thoughts…
「It’s not like he’s doing this to flatter the Gold Ranked me. 」
「He could’ve proposed this five years later. 」
Dinosso was baffled, and Shiva also looked troubled.
「How about the son of the baker? 」
I saw Tina receiving flowers in front of the bakery a while back.
「John uses his sleeves to wipe his snot so no no ~ 」
「The flowers got snot ~ 」
「Won’t buy bread there ~ 」
…John, was it a cold or allergy? You could’ve used a handkerchief at the very least you know.
Ah, but I do see them running around together from time to time, so he is probably her friend.
Dinosso family is quite hygiene conscious for someone living in this world, huh. It’s one of the reasons why I can no longer go to the other farming families and just stick with Dinosso’s family.
Is it because Shiva was formerly a noble? Shiva’s background is kinda vague, but if she had been possessed ever she was born, it might be stormy and full of angst and drama so I’m hesitant to pry and ask her about her past. She also gives off this aura of someone who already threw her status and her past away.
…Aren’t there too many folks with special circumstances around me?
「Doesn’t matter which, both of them are no-no! Tina, you got me! You said ‘I’ll be Daddy’s bride~’ before! 」
「No way~ Tina is Jean’s bride now~ 」
Tina laughed while sticking her arm out to her dad for some reason.
「Bride~ 」
「Bride~ 」
Vak and En followed up.
The usual bickering started again, and things only calmed down after I told them everyone is my bride. They probably aren’t serious about marrying me; they’re just really fond of me and are clingy because they want to be together.
It’s already evening by the time I left Dinosso’s house.
「I’m back, Riche. 」
I teleport back to my house from the house in Canum. Riche came running to meet me, and I tousled him all over.
Afterward, I prepare tea for me, meat for Riche. He can drink water wherever, and he doesn’t really need meat, but I still served it on the plate that’s exclusively his.
We play together for a bit after that, then I brush him. Riche doesn’t change into a summer coat and his chest fur is super fluffy. Seems a bit hot, but it’s cute.
Let’s go to Chris tomorrow — ah, no, Retze. I’ll ask him to help me make the bed mattresses. It’ll be quite a number since I had to make them for the rooms in the island and the forest. I’ll ask his help for assembling the lamps while at it. Let’s just ask him to work part time in my house during rainy days.
Is there an alternative to polyurethane I can use for the sofa? I also want some bamboo to make ear picks. Okay, I’ll wander around after I’m done drawing the magic circle for the island’s water source.
I finish my bath while mulling over these things then I go to bed. I still drink milk — I wonder if I’m taller now? Riche is splayed all over the chilly plate, so I watch him for a while before turning the lamp off.
The following day, I visit Retze with snacks and wine around dusk; it’s quite improper to go there so early in the morning after all. By the way, when you open the door to this rental house, the stairs will be right in front and a door to the kitchen and living room to the right.
This door is usually left open when somebody’s inside. It’s open today too so I took a peek, but I didn’t see anyone, or it felt as if somebody’s taking a bath by the well.
Today has been quite hot, so whoever it is, he’s probably refreshing himself after work. It’s not that hot for me, but a lot of people here are quite sensitive to heat. Dean usually wears short sleeves and sleeveless tops all year round, after all.
Anyway, I decided to go to Retze’s room, so I climbed up the stairs. Retze’s room is at the very end of the second floor. The door to the hallway doesn’t have a lock, but all the doors of the rooms have them, of course.
「Hey, what’s up? 」
He came out when I knocked. So Dean must be the one bathing by the well?
「Here, bribes first. 」
I push the basket of wine and snacks to him.
「Hey you, stop making it hard to turn you down, will you? 」
Retze seems fed up yet he still accepts it.
「Ich yum yum. 」
「Heh, stop that baby talk. Come in now. 」
「Pardon the intrusion. 」
Actually we can also talk downstairs where everybody usually gathers, but somebody’s taking a bath. Retze’s room is also full of interesting stuff, so I shamelessly went in.
