Once, I made all the side dishes but didnât make any rice.
Actually, there were times where we ran out of rice, so I had to substitute it with bread or pasta. Once, I was planning to make curry rice but didnât have any riceâŠ
I was still a beginner at cooking then. I panicked and didnât know what to do.
ăItâs fine. Weâll just eating something else today. We can have curry tomorrow. Curry that is set aside for a night tastes better.ă
My husband had said, and then he took us out for dinner.
No, but we havenât gotten married then. We were only engaged at the time.
There arenât any places around here to eat out at, so since I forgot to make rice, I could substitute it with bread or potatoes⊠Okay. We have food to eat, so thatâs more than enough. I wonât ask for more.
While I set up the heat to cook rice, I washed the vegetables and meat I was using today and cut them. Since I didnât have a peeler, removing the skin off of the vegetables took a bit of time.
I threw the vegetable skin into the chicken soup. Was it okay if I threw it in halfway through cooking though? Well, whatever. Itâs a waste to throw them out. Throw them in, throw them in.
The rice is cooked. Good.
I went outside to look for Kirika-chan. There she is. She was sorting a large amount of potions.
ăKirika-chan, can you help me cook?ă
I asked, and she turned around with a happy look.
ăOkay. Kirika will do her best!ă
I wanted to see if other people can produce the same buff effects if they made the food.
ăOkay, first, press the rice like this.ă
I made one myself to show her. We are making the yaki-onigiri I made before!
Kirika-chan should be able to make this herself, and it should be easy to compare the effects of the ones I make versus the ones she makes, right? I think it should be fine as long as nothing goes wrong with the taste, like we burn them by accident or add in too much soy sauce.
Kirika-chanâs small hands made ten deformed onigiri. I made five triangular ones.
ăKirika canât make them as well as you can, Yuuri-oneechan.ă
ăThatâs not true, you did such a good job for your first time! Also, our hands are a different size. Youâll get better over time. Also, the ones you made look really good, I want to eat them.ă
ăReally?ă
ăMhm. Did you know that food that is made for you by somebody else tastes a lot better?ă
Suddenly, I remembered my motherâs cooking.
âŠI want to eat her food again, I thought. But, I can no longer eat it. Why didnât I get her to teach me how to cook when she was still alive?
No matter how many times I made curry, it didnât taste like the ones that mama madeâŠ
Curry, huh. Thereâs no curry powder in this world, probably. I canât mix the spices to make curry myself either, so I probably wonât get to eat curry ever again.
ăUm, um, Kirika wants Yuuri-oneechan to eat the best one Kirika made! This one, this!ă
Kirika-chan pointed at the onigiri in the middle of the plate.
ăThank you.ă
That made me happy. Normally, one would want to eat their own cooking, and yet she was telling me that she wants me to eat her best dish.
ăOkay, this is the next step. Spread the soy sauce⊠I mean, the black losing potion over them.ă
We didnât have a brush, so we poured the soy sauce onto a spoon, then poured it onto the onigiri. Using the back of the spoon, we quickly spread the soy sauce.
We poured a bit too much here and there, but thatâs what makes this fun.
Kirika-chan was trying her best using the soy sauce. How cute.
I felt Kirika-chanâs hair that stuck out like ears on the side of her head. Hm? It felt kind of hard to the touch.
Did she use something to harden her hair so that it sticks out like this?
Is it considered stylish in this world?
ăKirikaâs done! We bake them next, right?ă
ăThatâs right. Letâs put them into the oven.ă
I wasnât sure how far I can help her. If I do too much, itâs possible that the food will no longer be considered to be made by Kirika-chan only.
Thatâs why I had Kirika-chan bring the heavy iron plate and put it into the oven. I verbally taught her how to adjust the heat, and she did it herself.
Okay. Kirika-chan stood in front of the oven and stared at the inside.
I understood how she felt. When I first tried baking cookies, I stared into the inside watching them bake.
While Kirika-chan was focused on the oven, I went and finished up the chicken soup, and the bird meat and lotus root dish.
Ah, I have to note down which seasoning I used.
Okay, done!
I went to get Kurtz-kun and Bryce-kun.
The two of them were sorting potions. In order to increase the supply of losing potions, they spent the afternoon setting up onion traps and smashing the roach slimes with the plank.
ăFoodâs ready!ă
ăIâve been waiting!!ă
Kurtz-kun stood up with a bright smile.
ăOkay, Iâll head to the dining room once we bring these potions inside. Kurtz, youâre helping me first.ă
ăOh, okay!ă
Bryce-kun then held out five winning potions from the pile of potions.
