Chapter 33: Talking About Foreign Cultures
「Hm? What is it?」
Rofas-san turned around.
I brought over a bundle with the meat-wrapped onigiri I rushed to make this morning.
Since I couldn’t find a bento box, I wrapped the onigiri up with a large leaf, and then wrapped it up with a cloth.
I did ask Bryce-kun beforehand whether the leaves were poisonous. He told me that adventurers would use them as plates when they camped outside.
Adventurers camping, huh?
Do the adventurers here go gather berries, mushrooms, and wild plants to eat? If that was the case, I should consider doing that too.
I only knew about the foodstuff you could buy at a supermarket. Even though I knew about things like wild grapes, I have never eaten them before, so I didn’t really know what they’re like.
That reminds me, are false strawberries edible? Are they poisonous?
「This is a bento!」
I held out the bundle to Rofas-san for a while now.
「Huh?」
Rofas-san looked at the bundle and tilted his head.
「A
 A bento? What? What is this?」
「Eh?」
Oh no, was there some sort of rule in this world where handing out a bento meant I was asking for the other person’s hand in marriage?
That’s not good.
That’s right. In Japan, there’s a saying related to food that could be used for proposing;「I want to drink miso soup made by you every morning.」

Well, I wasn’t aware of any person out there that drank miso soup every single morning.
My husband’s breakfast menu was like this. On Mondays, it was Japanese-style consisting of miso soup with three different vegetable dishes, and a grilled fish. On Tuesdays, it was western-style, so there was a western soup, salad, ham and eggs, and fruit yogurt. On Wednesdays, it was Chinese-style. On Thursdays

Since the style was already decided for every weekday, it was easy to prepare a menu. I didn’t have to worry about what to make. However, there were no specific styles for Saturdays and Sundays, so it was hard. There was one morning during the summer where I made a cold pasta dish for breakfast, and my husband yelled at me, saying 「What were you thinking serving me a cold dish for breakfast?! That’ll upset my stomach!」
Oops, I ended up having a flashback moment trying to get away from my current reality.
Let’s see, what should I do here?
I looked over at Kirika-chan and Kurtz-kun, hoping they would help me get out of his awkward situation. I found Bryce-kun’s expression to be rather scary, so I couldn’t look over his way.
Hm?
For some reason, they didn’t look surprised. Instead, they also looked confused?
「Neh, Yuuri-oneechan, what’s a beto?」(TL: Not a typo)

「What’s inside that cloth?」

Now that I thought about it, perhaps the Japanese concept of bento didn’t really exist overseas

If they didn’t call it a bento, then what was it?
In other countries, people would bring sandwiches to go on a picnic, right? And most children brought their own lunch to school.
Hahh, I’m glad that giving out a bento here did not equal a declaration of love. They just didn’t know what bento meant.
「There’s some meat-wrapped onigiri inside. I made them from the leftovers during breakfast
 Um, please have these for lunch.」
Rofas-san’s eyes had a flash, no, a spark.
「Ahh, it’s mobile food! I can have them?! I see, nobody here at the hut eats mobile food, after all!」
Mobile food?
Hmm, I guess it’s mobile since one would carry it around

Was there a difference between bento and mobile food though

Ah, could it be that
 it’s dangerous to carry around a bento since it would be extra luggage and could get in the way? Its smell could also attract beasts and monsters too

Could it be that adventurers
 no, the people in this world only brought foodstuff that was light and wouldn’t rot that quickly?
「I-I’m so sorry, Rofas-san! In my world- I mean, in my country, it is normal to bring what we call “bento”, but um, it’d get in your way, right? Like, it’s heavier than bread, and the smell could attract things to you. It’s not a good thing to carry around!」
However, Rofas-san grabbed the bundle with both hands.
「I’m heading off then!」
Rofas-san dropped some dried fruits on my hand and left immediately after.
H-he left already?!
「Hey, Yuuri-neechan, I want a bento too.」
Kurtz-kun raised his hand.
「Kirika wants one too!」
Kirika-chan raised her hands too, and even tippy-toed to reach up further.
「Rofas-san left you some goji berries, I guess to trade you for the mobile food. In that case, will you trade with me as well? 」
