Names mentioned in this chapter (which can also be found in the glossary ):
-云舒( yún shū)- Yun Shu, the female lead
– 舒 儿( shū ér)- Shu’er, Yun Shu’s nickname.
– 傅然( Fù rán)- Fu Ran, the male lead in our novel and the original novel
– 方灵( fāng líng)- Fang Ling, a scriptwriter and Yun Shu’s friend.
– 乔颜( qiáo yán)- Qiao Yan, the female protagonist of the original novel.
Yun Shu took out a script that she finished not long ago and showed it to Fang Ling.
“Shu’er, I think your script is quite good. You can try to submit it to the film and television company.”
Fang Ling was a little jealous. Some people in this world could easily do what others couldn’t, such as Yun Shu. Her talent in storytelling was too good.
“Eh? Really?” Yun Shu was unaware of it herself, and she was even a bit unconfident.
Fang Ling encouraged her, “Be a little more confident. You’re really good at writing. Shu’er, not everyone can enter this lady’s eyes.”
As a fair-skinned, wealthy beauty, [1] Fang Ling indeed did have the right to say such things.
Yun Shu interlocked her fingers and said, “But there are currently too many of such themes. I guess it’s out of the question.”
Yun Shu did not write about an abstruse topic and wasn’t able to do so. Her first work was a simple melodramatic [2] romantic, sweet and pampering type of story. Yun Shu was not confident. Not only did she not believe in her capabilities, but there were also too many such types of dramas nowadays. Most of them were intellectual property adaptations of novels, which were already popular. Hence, it would be difficult to compete for a newcomer like her.
If this had happened a few years ago, maybe the chances would have been a bit greater.
Upon hearing Yun Shu’s opinions, Fang Ling, “….”
She stared at Yun Shu with resentment for failing to meet her expectations and was impatient to see improvement in Yun Shu. She really wanted to shake her vigorously to wake her up.
But she didn’t. Because, because… Because she was afraid of dying.
So Fang Ling very politely reminded her, “Fu Ran’s newly acquired film and television company seem to focus on original scripts. You can give it a try.”
— Your man has acquired a film and television company now. You can directly send it to this company. I believe this company wouldn’t be so stupid not to let their boss’s wife go through the backdoor.
Yun Shu didn’t catch the deeper meaning in her words. She let out a sigh. “That’s even more impossible, right? I’ve seen a lot of scripts in this company. The authors are basically gurus like you-all. It’s better for me, as a transparent little newcomer, not to meddle in.”
Fang Ling, “….”
I hate that she (Yun Shu) is blockheaded.
— Wake up. Although you are a newcomer, don’t forget your man’s surname is ‘Fu’ and his name is ‘Ran.’ His alias is the real-life domineering president, the legendary man with the ability to turn stone into gold!
Fang Ling, who had a typical capitalist father, really couldn’t figure out how someone could cast good connections aside, not use them, and rely on herself.
It is simply a waste of social resources!
If I were in her shoes, I would certainly be lacking in such resources!
Fang Ling did not understand that the main reason was that Yun Shu did not have enough self-confidence and did not have enough faith in Fu Ran.
……
Fang Ling did not dare to say what was in her mind. Because, because… Mm, everyone knows the reason. But on second thought, she came up with a good idea, “How about this, if you believe me, you can pass me the script. Let me try to help you.”
“Eh?” Yun Shu was surprised. “Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you?”
Fang Ling responded, “No.” She added silently in her heart. She is at most a middleman. She only needs to make a trip.
—Indeed. Fang Ling planned to help Yun Shu send the script to the film and television company that Fu Ran had acquired.
Yun Shu did not know the truth. She was extremely grateful to her. “Good sister, let me buy you dinner someday.”
Fang Ling wore a faint smile, but she was feeling a tad guilty in her heart.
Then, the two of them changed the topic and continued to chat freely.
As long as Yun Shu and Fang Ling got together, they had endless topics to talk about. If it weren’t about the big melon field [3] in the entertainment industry, they would be discussing writing-related topics, or they could grab a fashion magazine and talk for a long time.
“Eh? Isn’t that Qiao Yan?”
[1] 白富美(báifùměi)- It refers to a fair-skinned, rich and beautiful woman.
[2] 狗血[gǒuxiě]- dog blood/unbelievable/exaggerated/Melodramatic. Firstly, it could be describing trite and highly predictable movie or Tv drama scenes. Secondly, it could be related to ludicrously unrealistic movie or TV drama scenes. Thirdly, it could relate to or characterised by schmaltz, dramatised sentimentalism, as in TV shows and movies. Lastly, it may be relating to life events that are ridiculous or infuriating.
[3] 瓜(guā)- It is an internet slang where melon refers to gossip.
