Astonished by what Ella had asked him. Xyle irritably brushed his hair back. From the beginning, he knew that she was bold. It was probably why she refused to be the Empress of the great Duffspe empire. âYou do know who youâre talking to, right?â
âXylos the Master of the Magical Tower of the Long Moonlight. The man who knows more than anyone in this world,â Ella answered proudly. She couldnât let him run away because, right now, she needed him most.
âHeâs also the man who knows most of this worldâs secrets. Do you even know what that means?â Xyle asked threateningly.
Ella, however, looked intriguingly back at him. Although she had possibly misinterpreted Xyleâs words, what he just said was meaningful to Ella. She walked up close to him and grabbed his arm. Xyle tried to take a step back, but she pulled him towards her and said, âThen you must know why I was brought here. Donât you?â
He looked away as he tried to push her back. âThe reason you were brought here is a secret. No one should know about it. I thought you gave up on returning to your world?â
âYes, but I canât just sit by when I see a chance. If thereâs a man who knows why Iâm here, then I might as well try. But⊠I see that you wonât tell me.â
Letting go of Xyle, Ella took a large step back. This man became the master of this tower, perhaps because he knew all those secrets. Whatever the case was, there was no way the man would reveal everything because of some girl he met for the first time today. If he wasnât going to tell her, then it was time to back off now. Besides, she had other problems that required his assistance.
Giving up, Ella said, âItâs alright. I never believed I would find out easily.â
âSo, you will keep searching?â asked Xyle.
âProbably?â
âThen I will give you some advice.â
âWhat is it?â
âDonât search for it. It will come to you when itâs time. So, donât bother searching for it because you wonât find it.â
Ella took a moment to think about Xyleâs advice. If one person knew a secret, it was highly likely another would too. He was telling her that there was someone who knew about it. Eventually, they would come to find her, so she should wait for them. Waiting, however, wasnât something she did. She couldnât hold back the urge to find out.
Interpreting her frown as a sign of rejection, Xyle reached out, grabbed her face, and directed her face towards him. Then he said, âYou will never find it at this rate. Iâm telling you not to waste time.â
âNever?â
âNever,â Xyle confirmed. âIt will come to you unexpectedly. And Iâm sure youâve got a lot more things to worry about than that, like the drought?â
Ella then remembered why she needed his help. âRight! The drought!â Her frown disappeared, and she glanced at him. âI need you to come with me in three days.â
âWhy?â Xyle asked.
âI need to meet someone who can stop the drought.â
âAnd you know where this person will be in three days? Right, it was in your book,â said Xyle grumpily.
âYes,â Ella responded.
Xyle thought about what could happen if he accompanied her. Those beings often had complicated relationships with the Master of the tower. Even he wasnât sure if it was possible to have meaningful conversations with them. Besides, that person was sensitive. If this person hated nobility, then it was a bad choice to accompany Ella to meet with him.
But the possibility of a problem occuring if he didnât accompany her was also great. It was doubtful that this bold woman would be able to handle the sensitive creature. It was a being that Xyle himself would find hard to handle if things went wrong, and it was also unlikely that the Constance knights could handle it. Maybe she had an exit strategy in mind?
âWhat will you do if I donât go?â asked Xyle.
âThen I will go alone. You never know what heâll say.â Ella answered casually.
âSo, you will ask something that others should not know.â
âYes. Maybe Iâll hear the answer that you refused to tell me too.â
Xyle scoffed at her words. It seemed Ella didnât care about his advice just now. He wanted to brush her off and let her be, but he couldnât do that. His feelings for this woman were beginning to grow.
âHeâs young. Change of Generation. Do you not know what that means?â Xyle sighed as he spoke. âIf you still want to meet him, then come here first. I will go with you.â
âThank you.â
Once more, Ella bowed like an ordinary noble and looked teasingly at him. Xyle noticed a strong resemblance between Evan and her. Whenever he was asking a favor that was difficult to refuse, Evan often had the same expression. Before Ella could speak any further, Xyle waved his hand and disappeared from the lab.
Left alone in the lab, Ella grumpily mumbled, âGosh, this man knows everything. I was going to ask if I can at least read about it if he wonât tell me. By the way, where are those books on the women who rejected the empress title? Ugh, that man! You should help me before you leave!â
Unfortunately, the books were unreadable because they were written in code. The only person who could read it was the owner. All the other books were filled with white empty pages. After looking through a few more books, Ella gave up and returned to her seat. Eventually, she dozed off as she contemplated a few things in her mind.
