I recall a story from when I was very young, a long time ago.
At the time I was just 15 years old, and still a very young hatchling dragon. I was very proud of the fact that I was a dragon. Dragons! The species that amazes the world! The world’s largest magical creature!
However, there was a dilemma that even dragons couldn’t solve. A demon named ‘Devil’ was threatening to invade our home land, after coming through a crack in space from his homeworld the Demon World.
The Devil was strong.
It was said that all of the world’s empires, kingdoms and dukedoms joined together to subjugate the Devil, but they never succeeded. Instead they failed time and time again, with incalculable losses. Half of the continent was razed to ashes, and many living beings died. It reached a point where not even dragons would consider going against the Devil.
Each day the destruction of the world came closer to being absolute.
Could we stop it? Who could stop the powerful army of the Devil? Is this the end?
At that moment, an existence appeared from nowhere.
I later heard that he was an existence who had been summoned to our world. He was extremely powerful. His name was Miro Lycas. It was said he set himself to the goal of repelling the Devil, and gathered every dragon’s bogu, a unique rank artifact each dragon owned. Perhaps it could be said that each bogu was something humans would call a legendary weapon?
(TL Note: 보구 is something I couldn’t find even in the korean dictionary. If you have any better translation for it, please comment below. Sorry T_T )
However, what kind of existence was a dragon?
An existence that observes the world!
An existence that is the best in the world!
There was no way that a dragon would surrender their bogu to a mere human. However, Miro Lycas beat each dragon until they were just about to die, and then took their bogu. A human who pounded the dragons and stole their bogu! Isn’t it hard to believe? However, I have to believe it.
I saw it personally.
Now, keep listening. That was when I was 15. At the time we were in the Dragon’s Lair, where a great meeting of dragons was in progress. It was a meeting where even five of the continent’s Western region dragons had gathered together.
The topic? It was about the existence of Miro Lycas, who had been hunting down dragons and requesting their bogu. At the time I was very young, so I could only watch the meeting between the centuries old elders in a subdued manner!
‘The prestige of the dragons has fallen to the ground!’
’How does it sound to hand over the bogu instead? Miro Lycas is an existence that even an elder class dragon would lose to. What is an elder class dragon? It’s a dragon who has lived for a thousand years. The only remaining elder class dragon is the Glacial Emperor, Sir Aramir Lantero, who controls the Glacial Region. However, the Glacial Emperor is in hibernation! At that point it’s reasonable to see Miro Lycas as being halfway to the level of a god. If it was just us we can’t win against Miro Lycas, or even the Devil!
‘How could you ask us to hand over a dragon’s bogu to a mere human? Stop with the ludicrous statements. What will happen to our dragons’ pride?’
‘However, if Miro Lycas gets stronger, can’t we entrust the role of exterminating the Devil to him? With just us, we have no way to defeat the current Devil! Is pride really a problem?’
The content of the discussion was at a level where the young me of the time had no answer. A being called the Devil who couldn’t be exterminated even if all the world’s dragons worked together had attacked. We can’t even kill the Devil, yet we’re being so prideful? If the world is ruined, dragons will lose their homes. Can the elders not reason this basic knowledge that even I, a kid, know? My concern for the future of the dragons drew as the meeting dragged on, continuing on pointlessly.
Suddenly he appeared. He flew down from the sky, landing on the ground without a sound. Then spoke simply.
“I am going to kill the Devil. I have no time to waste here, and I loathe annoying things. I’m here for your bogu, which you treat like your treasure and waste by not even using. If you don’t cooperate, I will beat you up and take it.”
He was a black haired human. The human held a giant two-handed sword, which was releasing an alien aura that blended with the energy emitting from his body. It was Miro Lycas. His black hair differed from the people from our continent, and he looked slightly different too.
Of course, the dragons refused. On that day I realised that humanity could have monsters as well. Not just dragons.
He was so strong that even the dragons seemed weak in front of him. I thought that if Gods existed, even they wouldn’t feel like this. In front of his godly feeling, my mouth drooped wide open and I couldn’t say a word. I was too stunned to react as the elder dragons were fiercely defeated.
Suddenly, Miro Lycas’ eyes met mine.
“A kid. I have nothing to do with you.”
Miro Lycas’ eyes were desolate and empty. I’m embarrassed to remember it, but at the time I wet myself.
After that a long time passed. However, I never forgot Miro Lycas. He was always present in my memories. Sometimes he was an idol, at other times a nightmare.
I heard a rumour that Miro Laikasu killed the Devil and brought peace upon the continent. I also heard there was no trace of him after killing the Devil.
Where did he go?
Was he really a God?
Was he the last helping hand a God had given to our continent?
The continent regained peace quickly.
I met him 30 years later. I landed not in the continent, but another world 30 years later. It was a dimension called Earth. I accidentally encountered him in a small country on Earth, in a small alleyway. When I first saw him I did not recognize him, because he was concealing his powers.
However, when he released his strength he was so strong that he couldn’t even be compared to himself back then. He didn’t seem to have aged a bit. He spoke less than before, and was full of an unspeakable loneliness.
Also…
For some reason, he was running a restaurant.
