âMy Lady?â Silence hung over the chamber which was in disorder . The maid called cautiously after kneeling for quite a while .
The usual calmness had returned to n.o.ble Consort Liu . She said indifferently as if nothing had happened: âGet up . What happened in Prince Li's Manor today?â Mo Jing Qi wouldnât go mad for no reason but there was nothing big today except it was Prince Li's wedding . Though he had been anxious since Prince Ding returned to the social scene after his marriage, he couldnât have gone mad for that so something unexpectedly must have happened today .
The maid curtseyed and stood up . She walked next to n.o.ble Consort Liu and said in a small voice: âThe Empress dowager went to Prince Li's Manor in a hurry then His Majesty asked Prince Li, Princess Li and Consort Xian Zhao to come to the palace . After Prince Li left, His Majesty came here to see you, My Lady, so I didnât have the time to report to you . â
n.o.ble Consort Liu frowned: âOrdered Prince Li to come to the palace? What about his wedding?â
The maid said: âI am about to report that to you, My Lady . The wedding has been canceled . Iâve heard that the eldest son of Prince Zhenan was so angry that he took the princess of Xi Ling away from the wedding . It seemed that in Prince Li's Manor . . . something happened at the place where all the female guests were . . . â
n.o.ble Consort Liu waved her hand with a frown and said: âTake a message for my mother and ask her to come to the palace as soon as possible . â Though she was favored in the palace, she was less in control when it came to information when she was in the palace .
âYes . My Lady . . . what about His Majesty . . . â
n.o.ble Consort Liu's lips curved upward a bit, her smile cold . âNothing . Perhaps the Empress dowager has given him a hard time . Later Iâll come up with something to help him take his anger out . â
The maid pursed her lips and smiled: âMy Lady, you know His Majesty best . But . . . My Lord left you a message and asked you to be careful . . . of the Empress dowager, My Lady . After all . . . â After all the empress dowager was the one who made her way through all those consorts of n.o.ble origins of the late emperor . Not only did she give birth to two sons, she defeated those women and their sons while making her own the emperor . The Empress dowager was not easy to handle .
n.o.ble Consort Liu said with indifference: âI know . Her Majesty is indeed something, but . . . Iâm not a n.o.body either!â The Empress dowager was indeed clever and difficult to deal with, but her biggest mistake was that she never knew what was on her sonâs mind . Does she really think Mo Jing Qi is the only one who couldnât stand it when she wants to take everything under her control? Any man with an ambition couldnât stand that . Only some are willing to endure and some arenât .
At Prince Dingâs Manor, the most concealed practice ground, there was a rare gloominess on Ye Liâs face while she was gazing at Qing Luan and Ah Jin who were flying in front of her using their flying skills . Qing Shuang, who was as bad as Ye Li in terms of flying skills stole a laughter by the side . Even Mo Xiu Yao couldnât help himself but curving up his lips secretly while sitting beside her . Ye Li didn't understand why she couldnât learn flying skills while she had good coordination and balance . Besides, Mo Xiu Yao once said she was a good material for learning martial arts! She felt at ease when she was on quincuncial stakes, as if walking on flat ground . She could master internal energy, which was beyond the belief of modern people, then how come she couldnât fly? More importantly, Mo Xiu Yao had found a set of flying skills which was said to be suitable for women . Now that Qing Shuang had mastered it, but she herself didnât have . . . any feeling about it at all!
In fact, Ye Li didnât think whether she could fly or not would make much difference in action . She could go over a three-meter-tall wall without much difficulty without flying skills . She didnât think those who knew flying skills could conceal themselves better than she did either . Besides, in close combat, there would be no use for flying skills at all . But . . . wasn't flying the dream of every Chinese who was into martial arts? Since it did exist, why didnât she learn it? After all, skill is no burden .
âAh Li, what are you thinking about?â Since he seldom saw Ye Li irritated, Mo Xiu Yao was a gentleman not to laugh at her . But if one looked at him, one would know he was just holding his laughter back .
Ye Li looked at the three who were flying all over the place unhappily and said: âMaybe, I donât have what it takes to learn flying skills . â
âYou donât need much talent for that . â
Only the best flying skills required the talent of its learners which couldnât be handled by a book of skills, such as the Young Master of Feng Yue, Han Ming Xi . He was average in terms of martial arts and internal energy and could have died numerous times if it wasnât for his one in a million flying skills which was more brilliant than many master-handsâ .
Not scientific at all! Ye Li only felt the blue veins on her forehead throbbing .  Flying was beyond the physical limit of human . How come one doesnât need talent or strong internal energy to fly? More importantly . . . man doesnât fly!
âWhat are you thinking about when you try to fly, Ah Li?â Mo Xiu Yao asked patiently .
Ye Li was a bit down but she told him all that she was thinking about . Mo Xiu Yao didnât know whether to laugh or cry after he heard that . âAh Li, if you keep thinking like that, youâll never learn how to fly . You canât tell yourself that man canât fly while you are trying to fly yourself . â
Ye Li certainly knew that . It was like hypnosis . n.o.body of this era would have the same problem as she did . But Ye Li was different . She was one the most excellent soldiers . At her time, though man can fly in a plane or even enter the s.p.a.ce, there was one deep-rooted idea in every heart that men cannot fly by themselves . So Ye Li always instinctively wanted to depend on something when she was in the air . When she was off the ground at a height she thought was beyond human limit and couldnât find that something to rely on, her body automatically entered self-protecting mode and fell .
âAh Li, flying skills doesnât give you the ability to fly out of nowhere . You need to make use of things, only less than those who donât know flying skills . For example, a branch or something else, as long as you are in control . â
Ye Li looked at him without any expression . Mo Xiu Yao didnât have a choice . Smiling, he clapped his left hand on the wheelchair and his body suddenly shoot out and went for the practice ground not far away . After an instant of surprise, Ye Liâs eyes were fixed on him . His hand touched a stake swiftly and he turned towards another direction . Then he was in the tree and on the ropes that Ye Li laid out in the practice ground before finally landing into his wheelchair .
âHave you seen that clearly?â Mo Xiu Yao asked with a smile, pa.s.sing her a light-yellow flower he
âThatâs not scientific at all!â Clenching her teeth, Ye Li said while staring sternly at Mo Xiu Yao . Â It was difficult for him to move around . Wasnât it? It turned out she was the one that had difficulty moving around .
âMm?â Mo Xiu Yao looked at her with confusion .
âI see . â Ye Li took the flower and played with it in her hand . âI need to think about it . â
Mo Xiu Yao smiled: âYou are thinking too much, Ah Li . Or you can try to imagine yourself falling from a 300-meter-high cliff where thereâs nothing you can depend on . â
Ye Li looked at him without a word . She did jump from the height of 300 meters in the past, actually, over 300 meters . Â If that will do . . . every paratrooper will become an outstanding master of flying skills . Â âUnderstood . Iâll try . â
What Ye Li tried was to ask Ah Jin to take her to a 20-meter-high stake in the practice ground then . . . jumped down from it .
The first time she abruptly fell at the height of ten meters . But she was lucky enough to be held back by a branch and eventually fell into a sandpit .
The second time, she covered the distance of half a practice ground but failed to find a place to land in the process and fell at the height of five meters . Since she did well protecting herself, she only scratched the surface of her skin .
The third time, she lost control of her body all of a sudden and hit one of the stakes, the pain from which took her a good while to recover .
Mo Xiu Yao sat by the practice ground and looked quietly at the figure that jumped down over and over, then flew up then fell down again . After checking there was no serious injury, she jumped again then fell again . He didnât stop her . However, seeing her fail repeatedly and try again each time, a strong yet strange emotion welled up in his peaceful eyes for the first time . He had only that slender figure which fell and stood up repeatedly in his eyes .
