Once Eder left the underworld, he immediately returned home.
âWelcome back.â The cute maid smiled at him.
âIâll have to go out soon.â
Eder went to his personal laboratory and took all of the medicine there. He also packed his medical equipment too just in case Valanâs condition took a turn for the worse.
This would be Ederâs first time using the Resurrection Stone. He couldnât help but feel nervous about it.
However, Kunta had instructed him on the proper way of using the Resurrection Stone. That took some pressure off his shoulders.
Eder headed for the Holiseum. On the way there, he took a detour to Burkanâs new matrimonial home.
âI found a way to treat Lord Valan.â
âReally? Oh, thank you so much.â Burkan grabbed Ederâs hand, looking completely moved. âFinally!â
âHoney, Iâll be back.â
âTake care.â Dora smiled and saw her husband off.
Darion lived in the Holiseum, so there was no need to go looking for him.
Eder, Burkan, and Darion headed for Valanâs residence together.
His chest wound was the same as ever. He was still missing one of his arms too.
Eder could see the slight creases in Valanâs forehead.
Even now, Valan was in excruciating pain. He was, however, extremely good at hiding it.
âWelcome, Doctor,â Valan said happily.
âI found a way to heal you.â
âIs that so? Iâm curious. What kind of magic will you use to treat me?â Valan grinned.
âPlease trust me. Iâll release you from your pain. No matter what.â
The word âpainâ made Valanâs lips slightly tremble.
âI figured it out just a little while ago.â
âI hid it well, didnât I?â Valan sported a mischievous expression, like that of a prankster.
Eder wanted to chide him. âYou shouldâve told me that it hurt!â
However, he decided not to nag at him, since he thought it might hurt his pride. Instead, he played along.
âYou couldâve been an actor.â
âIf I had, I wouldâve been the best. Donât you agree?â Valan asked.
âThe way of the sword is your calling, Master. So please get better and hold a sword again,â Burkan replied earnestly.
âYeah, youâre right.â
âAs we discussed, weâll turn the council chamber into an infirmary. Mr. Darion will assist me, and when I call, please bring Lord Valan with you.â
Eder and Darion left the room, leaving only Burkan and Valan there.
âWhen youâre all better, letâs have a duel.â
Burkan missed when Valan was at his strongest, despite how ill-tempered and impetuous he was. He truly did!
âAlright. Itâs been a while since we last sparred.â Valan beamed. Burkan also smiled back at him.
Darion returned to the room.
âWeâre all ready for you. Letâs go.â
Darion and Burkan wanted to support him, but Valan refused their help.
âIâll be fine on my own.â
For some reason, the magic lights that lined the ceiling of the Holiseumâs familiar hallways seemed to be a lot brighter than usual.
Valan took a deep breath, and slowly walked into the light.
Palacio was a general that defended the large city of Lonk. Following his death, he was transported to the underworld.
He was a soldier thatâd trained all his life, so his soul was incredibly strong. His soul didnât flow through the river of souls; it instead entered the gravity-less space outside of its pull.
âIs this the underworld? Itâs quite a mysterious place.â Palacio looked around, surveying his surroundings.
He saw the hemispherical world of Noah. There were all sorts of buildings on top of its surface.
Palacio was drawn to the city.
Although he couldnât move that well yet, it wasnât like he couldnât move at all.
However, he wasnât able to reach it. It was because of the black-robed man that stood before him.
âMe?â The man smiled.
Palacio had unknowingly readied himself for battle, sensing the manâs malicious intent.
âA villain.â The man pulled out a black sphere, which was larger than a watermelon.
The sphere cracked and a black tongue popped out, devouring Palacioâs soul whole.
There was no one that knew that Palacioâs soul had made it to the underworld, nor did anyone know that his soul had been devoured.
It had been one week since Eder had left the underworld.
Had Valanâs treatment gone well?
Sephiro broke him out of his stupor.
âReally?â Sephiro asked.
The Soul Guardians and his companions were sitting around a round table, sporting grave expressions.
âI saw it with my own two eyes.â Kunta pointed at his eyes.
âThe Mamonas has returned⊠Didnât we destroy all of them back then?â Sephiro looked at him in disbelief.
âDo you think we missed one?â Nile asked.
Javen shook his head. âNo. We completely destroyed it back then.â
âThen it must be a Mamonas that wasnât there,â Asu said.
âThatâs whatâs strange. When the Resurrection Stone appears, the Soul Eaters instinctively head towards it like moths to a flame,â Howlka said.
âThatâs also one of the Resurrection Stoneâs functions. It serves as bait to lure out all of the Soul Eaters,â Loxia added.
âWhen the Resurrection Stone appears, all of the Soul Eaters show up⊠And we completely annihilated the Mamonas. Yet, a new Mamonas has appeared?â Kang Oh muttered, locked in thought. Something smelled off.
âThereâs only one explanation,â Javen said.
The Soul Guardians nodded their heads.
âWhich is?â Sephiro asked.
âSomeone is creating the Mamonas,â Kang Oh answered.
âYeah. Someone here is growing the Mamonas,â Loxia said.
Asu furrowed her brow. âWho would do such a thing?â
âThatâs what we have to find out,â Javen said coldly.
âWhoever it is, Iâll find them and kill them no matter what.â
The guardians and Kang Ohâs party divided into groups of two or three, and set off to find the source of the Mamonas.
âDo you have any guesses?â Kang Oh asked.
âI do. But the problem is that thereâs more than a few of them.â
The underworld, or Noah, contained all sorts of people. There were heroes, villains, dragons, legendary beasts, etc.
Thus, if they didnât have concrete evidence, then they wouldnât be able to find the culprit. There were too many people here that were capable of growing the Mamonas.
âDid something like this ever happen before?â Kang Oh asked.
âHow did you deal with it then?â
âThere were people who used the Soul Eaters to procure the Resurrection Stone. They controlled the Soul Eaters to attack us guardians.â
âThen what happened?â
âThey were punished accordingly.â Javen smiled brutally. âThe same will happen to whoever did this,â he added.
âHow should we find them?â
âLetâs go see Acasus.â
The midget, Acasus, was sitting on a rocking chair. There was a black cat on his lap, and there were a ton of cats and dogs around him.
âHave you been well?â
âIâd like to ask you something.â
âSoâŠâ Javen briefly explained why he was here.
âIs there any way to find the culprit?â
âSo the culprit has a piece of the Mamonas with him?â Acasus asked.
âHmm.â Acasus stroked the catâs head, locked in thought.
âDo you have anything that smells like the Mamonas? This one here has a keen sense of smell.â Acasus pointed at the spotted dog.
âNo. Any other options?â
âIâm not sureâŠâ Acasus shook his head. Then, he looked at Kang Oh and it seemed like a light bulb had gone off in his head.
âWas Ubist present when you were fighting the Mamonas?â Acasus asked.
âUbist? Yes, it was,â Kang Oh replied.
âDid it eat the Mamonas?â
âA ton of it, in fact.â
âThen you just need to ask Ubist for help.â
âUbist has the ability to track whatever itâs eaten. Itâs probably an ability it gained to keep it from losing its prey.â
âMy dog had such a useful ability?â
âItâs true. I saw it, after all.â Acasus pointed at his eyes. His eyes were different from most otherâs eyes.
He could instantly âseeâ an animalâs emotions, strengths, abilities, characteristics, etc.
âThatâs good,â Javen said.
âYeah.â Kang Oh pulled out Demon Sword Ubist and used Demonâs Descent.
The demon sword transformed into a jet-black beast.
Its body, which had greatly increased after eating the Mamonas, had reduced to its original size. It had finished digesting the monster.
Ubist bared its teeth at Kang Oh. However, it didnât charge at him.
Acasus put the cat down and stood up.
âLooks like itâs angry.â Acasus pulled out a small bottle from his chest and opened it, permeating the room with a delicate scent.
Ubist sniffed it and slowly lied down!
Acasus pulled out a comb, and carefully brushed Ubistâs âfurâ.
Kang Oh decided to learn how to properly interact with Ubist while he was here.
âCould you tell us where the whale you ate is?â Acasus asked softly.
Ubist turned its head to the side.
Ubist stood up and led them away. Acasus, Kang Oh, and Javen followed after it.
Ubist led them to a small mountain. There was also a gate in front of it, which was supported by a thick, round pillar.
It was like the entrance to a grave or even a nest.
âThis place isâŠâ Javenâs expression turned severe. Acasus looked like he didnât know what to do.
âWhere is this?â Kang Oh asked.
âThis is Zephariusâs Nest,â Javen replied.
âZepharius⊠A dragonâs nest?â
Kang Oh recalled the man with red hair and red eyebrows that heâd met at the Alain Restaurant. He was a dragon, and his name was definitely Zepharius.
Kang Oh and Javen remained silent.
âThis isnât a dragonâs doing, is it?â Kang Oh couldnât dare utter those words.
After all, dragons were undoubtedly the most powerful beings in the world. They were powerful enough that they even made the Soul Guardians feel on edge.
If it were truly a dragonâs doing, then things would become a lot more complicated.
âIs this the right place?â Kang Oh asked.
Ubist angrily bared its teeth.
âHeâs saying itâs the place,â Acasus said.
âHow shall we⊠proceed?â Kang Oh asked carefully.
Javen didnât say anything. Eventually, he said, âNo matter how I think about it, it canât be a dragon. Especially if itâs Zepharius weâre talking about.â
It wasnât Zephariusâs style to do something so shady.
Kang Oh really only had two views on dragons. On one hand, you had the Divine Dragon, Gainus, and on the other, the Evil Dragon, Inarius. Good versus evil. An angel and a demon.
Thus, he didnât feel like itâd be strange if it were a dragon. After all, there were evil dragons like Inarius.
âFirst off, donât let anyone know what weâve learned today. I trust you wonât tell anyone either.â
âUnderstood,â Acasus immediately replied.
âWhatâs your plan?â
âWe have to find more information. Secretly.â
âUnderstood.â Kang Oh nodded his head. Then, he clasped his hands together and desperately prayed.
âPlease donât let the culprit be a dragon!â
He already had his hands full with Inarius.
âSo please no more dragons!â
