The first battle in the Ekrast Plains between the Raon Alliance and the Hegang Alliance ended in a draw. It was only natural. It wasnât a war that would end in a single day or two.
Once the battle ended, Herculesâ leader, Shion, gathered the Hegang Allianceâs leaders.
âWhat were our casualties?â Arthand asked.
âWe lost 20,000 soldiers. Of course, they revived and returned to their squads,â Paton replied. He was acting as the Hegang Allianceâs advisor.
âWhat about their losses?â
âAround 15 to 20,000.â
âSo we took a bit more damage than they did.â Arthand, who was over 2 meters tall, clenched his fist.
âYou canât look at it from a pure numbers standpoint. What matters is how much damage our crucial forces sustained.â
A battle among players that couldnât be completely killed! Though it appeared like a battle without end, it was actually the opposite. Not only would dying players incur a debuff, but their level and skill proficiency would take a huge hit. Thus, each battle would weaken both sides.
At some point, the scales would tip in one sideâs favor, and thatâs when the final victor would be determined. In other words, their most important task was reducing their losses, especially with regards to their most crucial forces.
âThen who took more damage on that front?â Arthand asked.
âThen our core forces are on even footing with theirs. Though in terms of sheer size, theyâre slightly larger than us.â
âIndeed. However, their size will prove to be an issue,â Paton said.
âSo I have a suggestion.â
âWhat is it?â Shion, whoâd been quietly listening in, said.
âThe Empire Guild is participating in the Arabas Kingdomâs civil war, and the Hercules Guild, Steel Heart Guild, and the Breaker Guild are all here in the Ekrast Plains. The last of the 5 great guilds, the Storm Guild, hasnât joined either side. We have to drag them to our side,â Paton said.
If the Storm Guild allied with the Hegang Alliance, then the balance of power would shift in their favor.
âHmm, the Storm Guild, huh. Arenât they fighting the Empire Guild right now?â Shion asked.
âTheir dispute ended quietly. It ended with the Storm Guild stealing 12 of their dungeons.â
âThey took a lot away from them,â Arthand said.
âThey were too greedy. Once the civil war ends, the Empire Guild will launch a counteroffensive. They pay back twice what theyâre owed. Thatâs their motto.â
âTheyâre probably preparing for the Empire Guild as we speak, so why would they join us?â Shion asked.
âThatâs how weâll get them. If they attack the Empire Guild at a later date, then weâll help them. In exchange, they have to join the Hegang Alliance,â Paton said strongly.
âThey wonât fall for lip service like that. Hernandez might, but Han Seol wouldnât.â Shion shook his head.
âThatâs why we need to sign a Sabraâs Contract. It will be a contract between Mr. Shion, Mr. Arthand, and Mr. Hernandez. It should state something along the lines of âIf another guild attacks, weâll help no matter whatâ.â
âPaton, youâre suggesting that Hercules, Steel Heart, and Storm work together even after the war is over,â Arthand said.
âThatâs right. With the Storm Guildâs help, weâll defeat the Breaker Guild and the Cerberus Alliance. Their forces will be absorbed by us, and then the Hegang Alliance will destroy the Empire Guild next.â
âItâs quite an enticing offer. But there are too many cooks in the kitchen.â
Arthand, Shion, and Hernandez. None of them could work under another.
Thus, the three leaders would only look out for themselves, causing internal discord, which would ultimately split the alliance apart.
âThatâs why Iâm against dragging the Storm Guild into this. And when this war is over, the Hegang Alliance will be disbanded no matter what,â Arthand said firmly.
âIâm against it too. Even if we get Hernandez to help us, the three of us wonât be able to work together,â Shion said.
The Hegang Allianceâs top leaders were against it, so Patonâs idea had gone up in smoke.
âUnderstood. At the very least, we need to stop the Storm Guild from joining the Raon Alliance.â
âI will arrange a secret meeting with the Raon Alliance.â
âWhere weâll agree not to get the Storm Guild involved,â Arthand said.
âWould they agree to those terms?â
âThey will. Theyâre the ones with the advantage. Theyâll want to get rid of an unknown variable, which can turn the tides against them.â
âHmm, then letâs assume neither side gets the Storm Guild. Can we defeat the Raon Alliance? As you said, they have a slight advantage over us.â
âWe have to strike at their weakness.â
âThe Cerberus Alliance.â
âSoâŚâ Paton explained the plan in detail.
Shion and Arthand simultaneously slapped their knees.
âWhen the planâs ready, weâll agree not to involve the Storm Guild in this war. And when the Cerberus Alliance crumbles, weâll launch a full-scale assault on the Raon Alliance.â
The meeting between the Hegang Allianceâs leaders was over.
Once the meeting ended, Shion entered his room and rested. However, someone interrupted him. No, make that several people.
âMr. Shion, I have something to tell you.â
âMr. Muhorang! And the rest of you.â
Hwarangâs Muhorang stood in the center. Herculesâ high ranker, Excal, the Oracle Guildâs Otler, and the leaders of Sea Palace and Tyster also stood there side by side.
âWhatâs going on?â Shion asked.
âOur soul dungeon, Faussmanâs Laboratory, has been taken from us,â Muhorang said.
âAlkartanâs Nest has been taken too,â Otler said.
âOur guildâs soul dungeon, as well as Tysterâs soul dungeon, have been taken as well,â Sea Palaceâs guildmaster said.
âIn a single day? Who did this? No, what group did this? Was it the Storm Guild?â
Shion thought of the Storm Guild first, whoâd just wrapped up their battle with the Empire Guild. Though the Empire Guild possessed great power and influence, they were currently involved in the Arabas Kingdomâs civil war.
âThen what guild was it?â
âNot what. Who,â Excal, whoâd been quiet, interjected. âKang Oh,â he added.
âKang Oh? Why him?â Shion tilted his head. Kang Oh referred to Predator Kang Oh. To his knowledge, Kang Oh had no favorable or unfavorable connections with anyone. So why was he attacking them?
âI donât know. What I do know is that he was able to steal all of our soul dungeons in a single day,â Muhorang grimaced and said.
âImpossible. It should take at least a few days just to find the hidden dungeon.â
Shion had no way of knowing that Kang Ohâs Hyper Intuition was a form of ESP.
âInformation on our soul dungeons had to have been leaked.â
âThe locations of our soul dungeons is top-secret. How could the information on all of them be leaked simultaneously?â
âItâs not impossible,â Otler said.
âHmm. So youâre saying that you lost your soul dungeons to Kang Oh. In just one day.â
âHe wasnât alone. Kang Oh was with the Wind Archer, Sephiro, and an unknown female knight.â
âDidnât Kang Oh fight in the Sacred Duel?â
A Sacred Duel was a one-on-one fight.
âHeâs strong. Overwhelmingly so,â Excal, the high ranker that specialized in serrated knives, said.
âOf course he is. Heâs not part of a large guild, yet heâs rank 4. Heâs on the same level as Helena.â
âWhat will we do now?â Muhorang asked for the group. Ultimately, they had all gathered here to ask Shion this very question.
Shion bit his finger. Whenever he had something to think about, heâd bite his fingers. It was a bad habit of his.
Everyone else just waited for him to speak.
âWe have to do what the Empire Guild did against the Storm Guild.â Shion finished organizing his thoughts.
âGive up on the dungeons, and focus entirely on the war.â
âButâŚ!â Otler said angrily. It hurt to lose the dungeonâs rewards. To think heâd ask him to give that up!
âIf we lose this war, then the soul dungeons are the last of our worries. Our guild might be completely destroyed. But if we win the war, then weâll receive a ton of war reparations. Plus, weâll be able to take all of Raonâs soul dungeons too. Ah, and not to forget!â
Shion paused for a second, and continued, âWhen the war is over, the Hercules Guildâs elites will take care of Kang Oh for you. Like how we took care of Helena. No matter what!â Shionâs eyes glittered. He wouldnât let anyone get in his way.
âAs you command.â Excal immediately bowed his head.
âHoo, Iâll do as you ask, Mr. Shion.â Muhorang accepted his terms.
With this, Oracle, Sea Palace, and Tyster had no choice but to accept. They couldnât beat Kang Oh on their own, after all.
âKeep this in mind. Aside from winning the war, nothing else matters!â Shion stared at them strongly and said.
Losing one or two dungeons wasnât the issue here. This war would determine their guildsâ future.
Once they left, Shion bit his fingers once more.
âKang Oh, Kang Oh, Kang OhâŚâ What exactly was his goal?
Kang Oh kept stealing soul dungeons from the Hercules Guildâs allies.
There were more than twenty guilds allied with the Hercules Guild. And Kang Ohâs party went through eight dungeons that they suspected were soul dungeons.
Six of them were soul dungeons.
He stole Alkartanâs Nest and Faussmanâs Laboratory from Oracle and Hwarang.
Kang Oh took Atlasâs Garden from Sea Palace, as well as Tram Jungleâs Pyramid from Tyster! Finally, he took Whirlpool Cave and Green Ant Tunnel too!
He stole every last one of them!
Normally, the Hercules Guild would intervene. After all, someone was taking their source of income away from them.
However, they didnât have the luxury of sending troops to stop Kang Oh. After all, they were currently busy fighting a huge war with the fate of their guild on the line.
âWeâre done with the allied guilds.â Kang Oh dusted off his hands.
Herculesâ allies may have more soul dungeons, but he didnât have any information on them, so he couldnât steal them.
âIâll use these soul dungeons well.â
Kang Oh recalled Shionâs face on TV. One day, these soul dungeons would be his undoing. They would become a knife in his back.
âAre we done now?â Sephiro asked, looking exhausted. He still wasnât ok with stealing the soul dungeons from guilds allied to the Hercules Guild.
âDone? Weâve only just begun.â
âJust begun? Youâre not⌠Youâre not, are you?â Sephiro desperately stared at him. âPlease say Iâm wrong!â
âYou guessed right. Now weâre going to steal Herculesâ soul dungeons.â Kang Oh grinned.
He knew of four dungeons that he suspected were soul dungeons.
âAre you out of your mind? If we do that, then the Hercules Guild will keep coming after us. No, theyâre already going to do that. Haa.â Sephiro couldnât help but sigh. His dream of living a long life had disappeared into the clouds.
âTheyâre going to come after us anyway.â
âYouâre a target too, Mr. Sephiro.â
âHaa, why are you doing this to me!?â
âSo we have to use this chance to completely erase Hercules from the face of the map.â
âExcuse me? What are youâŚâ Sephiro was shocked. âWhat are you talking about?â
âYour plan wasnât to steal their soul dungeons and hurt them that way?â Sephiro urgently asked.
âThatâs just the prep stage. My plan will come to fruition when the Hercules Guild is completely destroyed.â
âIs that even possible?â
âIt is. Isnât that right?â Kang Oh glanced at Asu. Heâd given her a little taste of his and Helenaâs plan, so she knew what he was planning.
