Hernandez and Han Seol came to Alteinâs northern Adventure Guild.
âThis way.â
A veteran adventurer led them to the meeting room. An old paladin and priestess were waiting for them there. It was Cyndia and Muhawk, the paladin responsible for her protection.
âHello, Iâm the leader of the Storm Guild, Hernandez.â
âIâm its vice-captain, Han Seol.â
âItâs nice to meet you. I am the Goddess of Deathâs faithful servant, Cyndia.â
âI am the sword that defends the goddess and her priestess, Muhawk.â
They exchanged pleasantries and then went straight to the point. They werenât close enough to ask how they were doing or share idle chatter.
âDo you know where Krishan is located?â Cyndia calmly asked.
âYes.â Hernandez nodded his head.
âThank you for finding her. I pray that the goddessâs grace be with you.â
âA blessing would be nice. However, Iâd like to ask you something.â
âGo ahead.â
âDid you know that Krishan was an immortal being?â Hernandez narrowed his eyes.
âYes, I knew.â
âI see. Then why are you looking for her?â
âI cannot tell you the details. It has to do with the goddessâs decree. All I can tell you is that Krishan is originally our responsibility.â
âIâm not interested in the details. I want to know if thereâs a way to overcome Krishanâs immortality. Does a way exist?â Hernandez asked, and waited anxiously for Cyndiaâs reply.
However, she answered with a question instead. âWhy do you want to know that?â
âWe suffered heavy losses looking for her.â
That was a lie. The Storm Guild had never intended to find her. Theyâd found her by chance, and had been completely annihilated by her.
However, Hernandez spoke as though theyâd been putting all their resources into finding her. He hoped that itâd make what he said next easier to swallow!
âThatâs quite unfortunate,â Cyndia said.
âShe has to atone for all that sheâs done, so weâll kill her no matter what. So please tell us how to overcome her immortality, or provide us with the method itself.â Hernandez bowed his head.
âI canât do that.â Cyndia shook her head.
Her mission was to help Kang Oh kill the Mayanes, and recover the God of Creationâs sources from them. As per the goddessâs command, no one else could kill the Mayanes besides Kang Oh. After all, the God of Creationâs sources had to be recovered.
Moreover, Kang Oh was the wielder of Demon Sword Ubist, the only weapon that could bypass the Mayanesâ immortality. It wasnât within her right to decide who owned that weapon.
âHmm, then I donât think weâll be able to tell you where Krishan is.â
âMithril is a precious metal. I donât know how great your losses were, but mithril should be able toâŠâ Muhawk, whoâd been silently listening, interjected.
âYou are Mr. Muhawk, correct? We lost way more than you think. Mithril, especially such a small amount, is nowhere near enough.â Hernandez interrupted him, and continued. âSo, I believe that itâs in both our best interests if we trade our knowledge; we will tell you where Krishan is in exchange for the method of killing her.â
âMm. What will you do?â Muhawk stared at Cyndia.
âAs I told you, I canât do that. And we have other adventurers and churches looking for Krishan as we speak. They will tell me where Krishan is.â Cyndia remained firm.
Hernandez slightly bit his lip. âThings arenât working out.â
Han Seol, whoâd been quiet thus far, spoke up. âI heard that the Church of Death is located in Despia.â
Hernandez kept his mouth shut and watched on. This wasnât the time to be doubting Han Seolâs abilities.
âThatâs right,â Cyndia replied.
âI heard that Despia is dangerous enough to be called the Land that Borders Hell. Do people actually live there?â
âThe goddessâs followers live there.â
âThen could you allow the Storm Guild access to Despia? If you promise to take us there, then weâll tell you where Krishan is.â
Hernandezâs eyes gleamed. âAs expected of Han Seol!â
If Cyndia agreed to their terms, then the Storm Guild would be able to enter Despia. Gaining access to Despia would cover their losses from exploring the north and getting defeated by Krishan.
He wasnât sure how dangerous Despia was. However, it was unlikely that anyone had ever been there before, so it was a land rife with opportunity.
Hernandez had absolutely no idea that Kang Oh was already in the Goddessâs Land.
âMm.â Cyndia mulled things over.
Taking them to Despia wouldnât be difficult. After all, they could just follow them back using the mirror. However, she was reluctant to bring outsiders to the Goddessâs Land.
âI should refuseâŠâ
Realizing this, Han Seol spoke up. âI know how you feel about outsiders entering your home. But weâll make you a promise. The Storm Guild wonât stir up trouble or break the peace. I promise it on my name as vice-captain of the Storm Guild! If we do cause trouble, then we wonât complain when you throw us out,â Han Seol briefly caught her breath and said earnestly. She knew that honestly and desperation would work best.
âWe just want an opportunity to recoup our losses!â
Ultimately, her desperation and honesty changed Cyndiaâs mind.
âI understand. Please keep your word.â
âOf course.â
âIf you tell us where Krishan is, then I will take you to Despia at the appropriate time.â
âThank you!â Han Seol and Hernandez said simultaneously.
âSo where is Krishan?â Cyndia asked.
âIn the north. Sheâs located in Yuki-Onnaâs Paradise. To be more specific, sheâs inside of a cave on a snow-covered mountain,â Hernandez replied.
âHave you already fought her before?â
Hernandez recalled his terrible defeat at her hands and furrowed his brow. âYes.â
âPlease tell us about your fight in detail.â
âUnderstood. SoâŠâ Hernandez explained everything he experienced, as well as what heâd heard from his subordinates as well.
âShe wasnât fully healed, and she didnât create anything or summon any strange monsters?â
âYes!â
âThank you for the information.â Cyndia glanced at Muhawk. Her message was clear.
âWe will get ready.â
âPlease let them know too.â
âThemâ obviously referred to Kang Oh, Eder, and Sephiro.
âUnderstood.â
âThen, if youâll excuse us.â
Cyndia and Muhawk left first. The goddess wanted them to defeat the Mayanes as soon as possible, so they couldnât afford to dawdle.
âGood job!â Hernandez beamed and gave her a thumbs up. âYouâre the best!â
âHoo, it sure is a relief.â Han Seol sighed. If things had gone slightly wrong, then they wouldnât have gotten anything in return.
âThey say that when one door closes, another one opens. To think weâd be able to go to Despia!â
âThis is a huge opportunity for us. You know that, right?â
âOf course.â
It was an opportunity for them, and a crisis for Kang Oh. Thus far, he was able to monopolize the Goddessâs Land, but he would soon be getting a competitor!
Kang Oh and the Storm Guild. What would happen between these two in the future?
* * *
Kang Ohâs party returned to Latnia City after another day of hunting.
âPhew, today was tough too,â Sephiro said.
Squeal!
Waryong nodded its head.
âTough? How can you call that tough? We only went through two dungeons,â Kang Oh said.
âYouâre not supposed to go through them this fast. Two is enough,â Sephiro retorted.
âTch, tch. Youâre so weak.â
âIâm not weak. I just want to rest like a normal human being.â Sephiro complained. âHumans arenât machines. Who hunts for 5 to 6 hours straight without rest!â
âIf you donât like my methods, then leave.â
âUgh.â
He couldnât afford to leave. After all, he couldnât grow nearly as fast anywhere else.
It felt like he understood the meaning behind âPatience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.â. It literally applied to every day of his life!
Eder patted his shoulder. âBrother, just give up and accept it.â
Whenever Eder told him that it wasnât worth it, he would stop arguing or complaining.
âEven the kindest person will retaliate when pushed too far,â he stared at Kang Oh and said.
Kang Oh grinned. âYeah, whatever.â
Like always, the three finished the day with idle chatter. But then, a paladin from the Church of Death came looking for them.
âMr. Kang Oh, Mr. Eder, and Mr. Sephiro.â
âWhatâs the matter?â
âMs. Cyndia has contacted us.â
âAbout?â Kang Oh asked.
âThey found Krishan,â the paladin said.
âFinally!â Eder clenched his fist. He wanted to defeat the Mayanes as quickly as possible. By doing so, he wouldnât have to worry about the goddessâs horrific curse anymore.
âSo?â
âMs. Cyndia wants to meet with you on the continent.â
âWhere?â Kang Oh asked.
âThereâs a city called Altein on the continent. She wants to meet you at the northern Adventurer Guild at lunchtime tomorrow.â The Paladin conveyed everything exactly as heâd been told.
âMm, I understand.â Kang Oh nodded his head and stared at his teammates. The two nodded their heads in turn; they were coming with him!
âThen, Iâll get going now.â The paladin immediately left.
âSee you tomorrow at the Adventurer Guild.â
Kang Ohâs party promised to meet tomorrow and parted ways.
* * *
Kang Ohâs party arrived on time.
âItâs been a while,â Cyndia said.
They greeted each other briefly and then went straight to business.
âWe found Krishan. Sheâs in the north, in Yuki-Onnaâs Paradise,â Cyndia said.
âShe sure hid somewhere remote,â Kang Oh said.
âWhen will we kill her?â Eder asked.
âWe sent some of our paladins there. They were instructed to assess the situation,â Muhawk, the leader of the Church of Deathâs paladins, said.
âWe have to be quick about it. According to our information, Krishan isnât at full strength and she cannot use the God of Creationâs power either.â
âMm, this is our best chance at beating her.â Sephiro nodded his head.
âIf she fully heals herself, then she may run off somewhere else,â Cyndia said.
âThen we have to strike before she has the chance to run,â Kang Oh said.
âYes. Thatâs why I wanted to leave right away. Weâre already prepared for battle.â
âWeâll need some time to prepare.â
Kang Ohâs party didnât think they would need to be ready for departure right away, so they werenât completely ready yet.
âHow much time will you need?â
âMm, two hours?â
Kang Oh needed to buy fodder for Gluttony. After all, he didnât have any items thatâd be very helpful against Krishan.
Eder also needed to go home and stock up on his drugs, bandages, and salves. Sephiro just needed to buy some more arrows.
If he had enough time, heâd like Man Bok to provide them with some supplies too.
âAlright. Iâll see you in front of the intercity transfer gate in two hours. Then, weâll leave immediately.â
âUnderstood.â
Two hours passed rather quickly, but it was enough time for Kang Ohâs party to amply prepare themselves.
âLet us go!â Cyndia said solemnly. Kang Oh, his teammates, and Muhawk followed her through the gate.
âSantana!â
Once they yelled âSantanaâ, a city that had a road that led north, Kang Ohâs party immediately disappeared.
It was almost time for the rematch between Kang Oh and Krishan!
