âYou donât have a choice.â Kang Oh whispered into Darionâs ear.
âWhat?â Darionâs face crinkled. âWhat the hell are you talking about!?â
âIf I tell Burkan that I want us to hunt together, what do you think heâll say?â
Burkan had told him that if he wanted to hire Darion, then he needed to speak with him in person. He hadnât expected Kang Oh to coerce him.
However, Darion wasnât aware of this conversation.
âHeâll say no!â Darion forcefully said.
âIâm sure thatâs what youâd like to believe, but you do know that he let me borrow 600,000 gold, right?â
âWhat? Master lent someone else money? 600,000 at that?â
âYeah. Do you think heâd care if I brought you along when he was willing to lend me 600,000 gold?â
âLiar!â
âWhen weâre done here, go ahead and ask him yourself.â
âMm.â
It likely wasnât a lie. If it was, itâd be too easy to ascertain the truth.
âSo youâve already been hired. Thatâs if you donât have the guts to disobey Burkanâs orders.â
âThatâsâŚâ Darionâs body shook. Did he really have no choice but to work with this devil again!?
âI admit, I treated you too harshly in the past. That was my bad. I truly apologize.â Kang Oh took his hand off of Darionâs shoulder and bowed deeply.
He couldnât make Darion do whatever he wanted anymore. If he did, Burkan wouldnât just sit back and watch. After all, heâd instructed him to pay Darion his fair share.
If thatâs the case, then he needed to mend his relationship with Darion.
âW-Why are you doing this!? Itâs so unlike you!â Darion was taken aback. âWhy is this guy doing this? Did he eat something bad?â
âI canât treat you the same as before, since youâre a first-class gladiator now. Iâd like to formally hire you. Youâll be treated with respect this time around.â
âHaa.â Darion sighed. âAre⌠you telling the truth?â
âI am.â Kang Oh stared directly into his eyes. His eyes were unwavering.
âI understand. My daily wage is 100 gold. If I work overtime, please pay me extra. You also cannot hire me the day of, and the day before a gladiatorial match. Abuse, violent language, threats, etc. are not allowed! Please donât invoke Masterâs name to force me into doing something again.â Darion named condition after condition.
âWhat about the loot?â
âThat goes to my employer. Itâd be too greedy of me to ask for both gold and loot.â
âGot it.â Kang Oh nodded his head.
âOh, right. One last condition!â
âWhat is it?â
âTake this!â Darion forcefully swung his fist. It contained all of the shame and humiliation heâd endured while working under Kang Oh!
Kang Oh could have dodged it, but chose not to.
Whack!
Darionâs fist struck Kang Ohâs left cheek. It was quite loud, but it didnât hurt much since he was playing a game. It did make him feel bad inside though.
On the other hand, Darion felt thrilled. It was like his indigestion had finally passed!
âYou good?â
âYes.â
âLetâs forget the past and move on like men.â
âThen be a man and forget about me hitting you.â Darion extended his hand.
âYeah!â Kang Oh shook his hand.
With him on board, he only needed two more members to complete his team.
* * *
He was able to procure his third and fourth teammates simultaneously. Man Bok had heard that Kang Oh was looking for teammates, so he introduced them to him.
âHello, my name is Soren.â
âIâm Karin.â
Soren was a cool-headed woman with braided hair, while Karin was a pony-tailed tomboy.
âMy name is Kang Oh.â Kang Oh smiled.
âI know. Youâre one of the Numbers.â Soren smiled back.
Soren and Karin were skilled players that possessed High-Rank Wizardry. They were in their late 300s, and were both middle rankers that were aiming for a spot in the high rankers (0-99).
âAre you and uncle close?â Karin asked.
âUncle?â
âUncle Man Bok.â
âMr. Man Bok is your uncle? Heâs not just some guy you know; heâs your actual uncle?â
âYes.â Soren slightly nodded her head.
âAha, I see. Mr. Man Bok and I are quite close.â Kang Oh grinned.
âAre you friends?â Karin asked.
âItâs more accurate to call us partners than friends.â
âI see. How old are you, Oppa?â
âOppa?â Kang Oh widened his eyes. That was pretty sudden.
âI donât want to use âMr.â every time I talk to you, and you seem too young to be called âUncleâ, so Iâll call you Oppa instead.â
âHey!â Soren, whoâd been quietly listening, glared at Karin. She was essentially saying, âDonât be rude!â.
âWhat!?â Karin glared back.
Kang Oh mediated their dispute. âPlease call me whatever you like. Youâre both Mr. Man Bokâs nieces, so you must be sisters.â
âIâm the older one,â Karin firmly said. She was trying to prop herself up as the older sister.
âOlder? You were born just a few hours before me. You have to actually act like the older one.â Karen pointed out.
âA few hours older?â
âAre you twins?â Kang Oh asked.
âYes. And I am the older sister because I was born a few hours earlier,â Karin said.
âYouâre funny,â Soren replied.
âYou!â
âYouâre reallyâŚ!â
The two looked like theyâd fight any second now. Kang Oh smiled at the sight of the two sisters.
âItâs the same wherever you go.â
They looked just like Mina and Yura when they were fighting. As an older brother whoâd seen several of their fights, he knew better than to get in the middle of it.
âIf you two are going to fight, then Iâll leave and come back when youâre finished,â Kang Oh said, and the two did a complete 180, as if they were never going to fight in the first place.
âWe werenât fighting.â
âWhatever do you mean?â
âThen letâs clear some things up. Iâm in my early twenties, and you can call me whateverâs comfortable.â
âIf youâre in your early twenties, then you are older than us,â Karen said.
âThen Iâll call you oppa too. You donât need to be polite with us,â Soren said.
âAlright.â Kang Oh nodded his head.
âSo, Oppa.â Karin stared at him.
âYeah?â
âCan we really beat Galmoss? I joined because youâd be taking part, but he wonât be easy to beat.â
Soren, who was right next to her, nodded her head.
Theyâd actually fought Galmoss before. Of course, theyâd been helpless against it. After that, they dreamt of their revenge.
Then, Man Bok had told them that Kang Oh was forming a team to beat it. The two had jumped on the opportunity.
However, when they actually sat down and thought about it, they asked themselves âCan we win?â.
âWe can,â Kang Oh said confidently. There was no âundefeatableâ monster in this world! This was his creed.
Kang Ohâs fame and his confidence helped them make up their minds.
âAlright, letâs do it!â Karin clenched her fist.
âYeah, letâs!â Soren did the same.
âFollow me. Iâll introduce you to our other teammates, and then weâll talk about the fight ahead.â
âOk!â
* * *
They gathered at Ederâs house. Kang Oh, Eder, Darion, Karin, Soren, and even Man Bok were there!
The maid served them tea, and the team began to introduce themselves.
âYouâre really Darion?â The twinsâ eyes gleamed as they looked at him.
âYes. I am Darion, the Invincible Gladiator, Burkanâs final student.â Darion raised his shoulders.
âItâs because heâs handsome.â
Darion had several female fans due to his good looks. Thus, he knew that Soren and Karin would be fans of his. Of course, that was a huge misunderstanding on his part.
âIâve heard of you. Heâs that Darion,â Karin whispered.
âYeah. Heâs where the âDarionâ meme came from.â
The meme heâd posted on Arthtory was still widely being used.
âOh. He really does look like a Darion, doesnât he?â
âYep.â
Honestly, they looked at him like they would a rare animal at the zoo.
Anyhow, Kang Oh stood up when the time was right. âLetâs begin the meeting.â
Everyone went quiet and stared at Kang Oh.
âWeâre going to hunt Galmoss. Could you please pass them out?â Kang Oh said to the maid, who stood off to the side. She then passed out the stack of papers that sheâd been clutching to her chest.
âThis is what we know about the Roaming Galmoss.â Kang Oh pointed at the paper. âPlease memorize it before the hunt.â
Eder perused the paper and said, âThe Reaper of Souls will prove to be an issue.â
Galmoss possessed a greatsword called the âReaper of Soulsâ. It was a truly overpowered weapon.
Why, you may ask?
The Reaper of Souls bypassed shields and armor. Befitting its name as Reaper of Souls, it did a tremendous amount of damage, as if itâd actually cut through oneâs soul.
âThe Reaper of Souls. Thatâs the biggest reason that Galmoss is considered unbeatable. Tanks canât do their jobs properly against it.â
In general, a normal team consisted of a tank, which would aggro the boss, DPSers, whoâd deal damage to the boss, and other teammates that offered support like healers or supporters.
However, tanks were useless against Galmoss. The Reaper of Souls would bypass their tough shields and armor. Which meant that Galmoss would kill the tanks in 3 seconds flat.
âDefense is pointless against it. So you have to keep evading it while dealing damage,â Soren said.
âIs that even possible?â Karin asked.
There was another reason that the Reaper of Souls was called a cheat code. It was widely believed that the blade didnât have any weight to it. Thus, Galmoss swung the greatsword with incredible speed. This made it extremely difficult to avoid its attacks.
âIf its equipment was where all its strength lies, then someone wouldâve beaten it already. However, the boss itself is extremely powerful. Itâs a ghost-type boss, so itâs immune to physical attacks. So youâre forced to use elemental attacks like fire or lightning, but it has ridiculously high elemental resistances too,â Karin added.
âSheâs right.â Soren nodded her head.
If the Reaper of Souls was the strongest spear, then Galmossâs body was the strongest shield.
âIâll be the tank,â Kang Oh said.
Soren was right. Fighting it head-on required someone skilled enough to repeatedly avoid its attack.
âSomeone like me.â
âYou will?â
âWill you be alright?â
Soren and Karin concernedly stared at Kang Oh. It wouldnât be easy. However, they also understood that Kang Oh, as one of the Numbers, was the only one capable of accomplishing this task.
âMr. Kang Oh will be able to do it.â Eder looked completely unfazed, as heâd fought alongside Kang Oh for a long time. He knew what he was capable of.
âHeâs not the type of person whoâs willing to accept that something is âimpossibleâ.â
âYes, Iâm sure he will.â
When he fought alongside him in the Snowy Fields of Travium, Darion had seen Kang Ohâs skill firsthand. Thus, he fully trusted in his skill.
âBut everything elseâŚâ
His character was so-so. Kang Oh promised that heâd treat him better in the future, so heâd just have to wait and see.
âDarion, you and I will keep Galmoss busy,â Kang Oh said. He wanted Darion to be the off-tank.
âYes.â
âEder, you focus on healing, support, long-range attacks, etc., ok?â
Eder was both a Healer and a Necromancer. He could do everything aside from tanking.
âUnderstood.â
âSoren and Karin, you need to do one thing and one thing only: deal damage.â
âOk!â
âLeave it to me!â
Soren and Karin simultaneously replied.
âMr. Man BokâŚâ
âIâll prepare the basic necessities. Please let me know if you need something in particular. Iâll get it for you,â Man Bok, whoâd been sitting quietly and sipping his tea, said.
Then, the twins stood up as if theyâd been waiting for this moment.
âUncle, buy me a staff!â
âI need a robe!â
âHehehe.â Man Bok just laughed.
âLetâs end the meeting here and go hunting together. We have to learn how to work together.â
