âLetâs see here.â Kang Oh picked up the crystal embedded black staff. It was the same staff that Hamon had used.
[Roaring Wave Staff Steeped in Evil]
A staff used by Tidecallers, those who command both the sea and nature.
This staff contains the power of Tidecaller Hamon, also known as the Butcher of Silverland.
+ Roaring Waves: Doubles the power of water spells.
+ Evil Wave: Just holding the staff increases oneâs notoriety. Allows you to use Evil Wave (Active/Spell). The greater oneâs notoriety, the more powerful the Evil Wave.
âHehe, Mr. Financier.â Kang Oh politely presented Eder with the staff.
The staffâs special ability, Evil Wave, seemed to have great synergy with a Lich! But after looking over the details, Eder returned the staff to him.
âI donât need it.â
The Roaring Wave Staff was much worse than Eclipseâs Scythe. He obviously didnât need it.
âTch.â
âLet me take a look.â Sephiro snatched the staff.
Meanwhile, Kang Oh looked over the other item. It was Hamonâs robes, the ones with the blue wavy pattern.
[Wavy Pattern Robes Steeped in Evil]
Robes worn by Tidecallers, those who command both the sea and nature. Only an Intermediate-Rank Tidecaller can wear these robes.
These robes were worn by Tidecaller Hamon for a long time, so they are imbued with evil power.
+ Wave Pattern: Reduces the MP cost of water spells by half.
+ Evil Song: Just wearing these robes increases oneâs notoriety. Allows you to use Evil Song (Active/Spell). The greater oneâs notoriety, the more powerful the Evil Song.
âThis too?â Just in case, Kang Oh passed Eder the robes. However, it had the same result.
âYes. I donât need this either.â Eder passed Sephiro the robes, and he immediately looked it over.
âYou donât need it either, do you?â Kang Oh asked.
âNo, I donât. To think itâd increase your notoriety just by wearing it⌠Itâs defective,â Sephiro said.
âThen Iâll ask Mr. Man Bok to sell it for me. Iâll split up the profits later.â
Ever since heâd met him, Kang Oh had disposed of all of his unneeded items through Man Bok.
âWill those defective goods even sell?â Sephiro asked.
âThey will. Players that donât care about their notoriety or criminals that actually want their notoriety to increase will buy it.â
Countless people played Arth. Some of them habitually PKed others, while others were criminals who stole and performed other such criminal activities.
âMm. I see.â Sephiro nodded his head.
âDo you think these items will open the next door?â Eder asked.
âDonât know. Letâs take a look around. There might be something else here,â Kang Oh said.
This was a hidden dungeon. There had to be a treasure house here, which stored all of Hamonâs riches.
A short while laterâŚ
âMr. Kang Oh, Mr. Sephiro. Please take a look at this,â Eder called.
âDid you find it?â
âYes. I think this is it.â Eder cleared the thicket, revealing a square rock. He then pushed the rock off to one side, revealing a secret room.
âGood job, Eder.â Kang Oh patted his shoulder and immediately entered the room. âWow!â Kang Oh exclaimed.
There were piles and piles of gold coins! Magic materials lay on the rack, while grimoires and rare books were stacked on the bookshelf.
âHaha, this is what being a Dungeon Hunter is all about.â
Finding huge rewards after clearing a dungeon was what made it all worth it.
âOoh.â
âWoah.â
Eder and Sephiro, whoâd come inside after, were amazed.
âItâs a good thing I fought for my share!â Sephiro looked at the riches, recalled his 15% share, and clenched his fists. âYes, yes, yes!â
âLetâs begin collecting everything,â Kang Oh declared solemnly.
A short while laterâŚ
They cleaned the place out. Kang Oh had taken everything, leaving behind only dust.
âHow much came out of it?â Sephiro asked.
âAbout 900 gold. Selling all of the materials will get us around 2,000 gold,â Kang Oh said.
â2,000 gold! Weâve hit the jackpot.â Sephiro beamed.
âWe did.â Kang Oh smiled too.
This is why you clear dungeons!
* * *
They decided to split the loot later. Kang Oh, Sephiro, and Eder returned to Saharamant, humming.
âNow then.â
Kang Oh lifted Hamonâs staff, while Sephiro lifted Hamonâs robes. The two simultaneously pushed the center door.
[You are not qualified.]
The staff didnât work.
HoweverâŚ
âIt says Iâm not qualified,â Sephiro said. Heâd been pushing the door while holding the robes.
âHmm, is it this then?â Kang Oh pulled out a hardcover book from his inventory. It was called Hamonâs Wicked Grimoire.
Though it was called a grimoire, it didnât actually teach you how to use magic. Thus, he assumed it could be used to open the next door.
Kang Oh pushed the door once more.
Creak.
He was proven right. Hamonâs Wicked Grimoire was indeed the key to the third door!
The door opened all the way.
âSo you need an item that contains the bossâs name.â
âNot too hard, is it?â Kang Oh said, staring at Sephiro and Eder.
Beating Hamon had been too easy. It had been completely one-sided. It was even easier for Eder and Sephiro, who had fought ordinary monsters instead.
âItâs not.â
âIâm still going strong.â
Eder and Sephiro replied simultaneously.
âThen letâs go through the third door!â Kang Oh yelled.
âLetâs go!â
Kang Ohâs party immediately went through the third door.
[You have entered the dungeon, Ratiaâs Trial.]
Whoosh.
The wind blew, sweeping through Kang Ohâs hair.
There was a cliff in front of them, so large that they couldnât even see the top. The wind had come from the top of the cliff.
âYou donât think we have to scale this cliff, do you?â Sephiro said.
Kang Oh took a look around. He didnât see anything besides the cliff. Moreover, the word âtrialâ was part of the dungeonâs name.
âI think we do have to climb it,â Kang Oh said.
âMm. Weâll be screwed if we get attacked by flying monsters like wyverns or gryphons along the way,â Sephiro said concernedly.
âIndeed,â Eder agreed.
âAh, thatâs right. Can we leave this to you, Mr. Kang Oh?â Sephiro stared at him.
âWhat do you mean?â
âI watched you go up Drakaâs Nest. Canât you do the same thing? Fly, then rest, then fly again.â
âHmm.â
âYou can just summon Mr. Eder when youâre at the top.â
âThen what will you do?â
âIâll be waiting in Saharamant.â
âWe canât have that.â Kang Oh shook his head. He couldnât allow Sephiro to just sit around and do nothing.
âUgh. Then what do we do? You want us to ignore our best option here and climb the cliff?â
âNo. Iâm going to be flying. Do you remember that time we flew into Kainshellâs boss room?â Kang Oh asked.
âAh, yes. How could I forget. I hung onto you while you flew up there⌠You wouldnât!â
âI would.â Kang Oh smiled wickedly.
âAah.â Sephiro looked like heâd cry.
âThen letâs go.â Kang Oh pulled out Blood and used Devil Trigger. His red bat wings stretched out completely. âPlease hold on tight.â
âUgh.â Driven by necessity, Sephiro hung off of Kang Ohâs neck.
âEder, you just wait here. Iâll summon you once I reach the top.â
âAlright.â
âTasha, please fly me up to the top,â Kang Oh said.
âThat thingâs in the way, so we wonât be able to fly for very long. At best, maybe a minute. We obviously wonât be able to fly that fast either.â Tashaâs voice echoed in his head.
âMm. Then just get me up as high as you can. If we repeatedly fly and then rest, we should be able to get up there eventually.â
âFine.â Tasha forcefully flapped his wings.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
Kang Oh and Sephiro began to rise into the air.
HoweverâŚ
Whoosh!
A powerful gust of wind blew, violently shaking his body. Obviously, Sephiro was in way worse shape.
âUhahk!â he screamed.
âTasha!â Kang Oh said.
âThe windâs too strong. I canât fly properly!â Tasha said desperately.
Whoosh!
The gale blew once more. Kang Oh lost balance and plummeted to the ground.
âGuaaahk!â Sephiro felt himself fall and shrieked.
Flap, flap, flap, flap, flap!
Tasha violently flapped his wings. Because of that, they were barely able to stay in the air.
HoweverâŚ
âWe canât keep flying like this! We have to land.â
Flying was no longer possible.
âLetâs go back.â
Ultimately, Kang Oh and Sephiro were forced back to their original position. Their plan had completely failed.
Kang Oh let Sephiro get off and attempted to fly once more. However, this attempt would end much the same; the mighty gale wouldnât allow him to progress any further.
âTch. I think itâs set up so that you canât fly yourself to the top.â Kang Oh, whoâd returned to their starting point, scowled.
Now, their only option was to climb up the cliff by hand.
âI guess it canât be helped.â Kang Oh stretched out. He was really going to climb up the cliff.
âPhew.â Sephiro sighed and stretched out too.
âIâll be waiting here,â Eder said.
âYeah. Iâll summon you when I reach the top.â Kang Oh nodded his head.
âBe careful.â
âYeah. Letâs go.â Kang Oh began scaling the cliff.
âOk!â Sephiro gritted his teeth. âIf I canât avoid it, then I just have to do my best!â
He immediately followed after him.
* * *
Climbing the cliff wasnât a difficult task.
After all, this wasnât reality. The two of them werenât climbing the cliff; their in-game characters were. The same in-game characters that could perform inhuman feats due to their tremendous stats!
Obviously, Kang Oh and Sephiro scaled the cliff at a speed impossible for their real life counterparts. However, they soon realized why it was called a âtrialâ.
The fierce wind proved to be a major issue.
Whoosh!
The ferocious, quick wind swept through them. Kang Oh and Sephiroâs bodies violently shook.
âGrr!â Kang Oh gritted his teeth and glued his body to the cliff. He then tightened his body and waited for the wind to pass.
However, Sephiro had let go. The stone his right hand had been holding onto had broken off!
