Kang Oh came to Ederâs mansion.
âWelcome. Please come in,â Eder said.
âHow did things go with Lord Valan?â Eder asked.
âLetâs go to Despia!â
âGoing to Despia is good and all, but youâll prove to be a problem.â Kang Oh pointed at Eder, who brought them tea.
âWhatâs wrong with me?â
Kang Oh took a tip of his tea and said, âDo you know what kind of place Despia is?â
âAn extremely dangerous place.â
âYeah. Do you really think youâll be able to survive there?â
Eder was using the body of a level 150 boss monster, the Immortal King, Arumode, which heâd remodeled for his own personal use. Although heâd improved his equipment, the body just wasnât strong enough to get him through Despia.
âCanât you just go by yourself and then summon me when you get to Deborahâs Temple?â
âHoh. You want me to do all the hard work and lug your body all the way there?â Kang Oh furrowed his brow.
âYou canât?â Eder asked, bright-eyed.
âThen what do we do?â Eder asked.
âIsnât it obvious? You need a new body.â Kang Oh went straight to the point.
âBut I like this body.â
âUse that for your everyday life, but use your new body during battle,â Kang Oh said clearly.
âThen what do you have planned for me?â
âA Lich, the highest rank undead monster!â
Lich. It was an undead, high rank mage!
Liches possessed a âlife vesselâ; so long as the life vessel remained intact, a Lich could never truly die. Thus, a Lichâs life vessel must be destroyed before even attempting to hunt it.
âWhy, youâre not interested?â
âThatâs not it. Iâll become much stronger in a Lichâs body. However⌠whether or not weâre able to defeat a Lich is another matter entirely.â
Eder had extensively studied necromancy, so he knew how formidable Liches were.
âIt wonât be easy. Itâs a Lich after all! But I donât think youâll be able to survive Despia in anything less.â
If Eder didnât do his part, then heâd just slow Kang Oh down. He couldnât let that happen. Thatâs why he proposed killing a Lich, despite knowing how difficult itâd be.
âWeâll be going for the Ruler of the Andura Temple, Eclipse. Heâs about level 400.â
âNo matter how strong you are, itâs undoable with just the two of us,â Eder said outright.
âObviously. To hunt a Lich, you need at least two teams. One team to keep the Lich distracted, and another to destroy its life vessel.â
âYouâre well informed. But we donât have the manpower.â
âWe have to find some people.â
First, Kang Oh sent a message to Sephiro, who was the weakest of the lot.
âI gotta recruit him first.â
â Iâm busy. If itâs not urgent, then please ask me later.
â I need to procure Eder a new body. So I was wondering if youâd help me.
â Iâve just begun a really important link quest that has a time limit. So I canât help you right now.
âAre you lying to me?â Kang Oh disbelievingly sent him another message.
â If I complete the link quest, then Iâll receive a hidden class as a reward.
âA hidden class, huhâŚâ It didnât seem like he was lying.
â Tch, I understand. Make sure you get that hidden class.
â Yes. Iâm busy right now, so please donât message me for the time being.
âTch, tch.â Kang Oh clicked his tongue.
âWhatâs the matter?â Eder asked.
âMr. Sephiroâs busy, so he canât help us.â
âMm, weâre not starting off well.â
Eder looked anxious. âCan we really hunt a Lich?â
âItâs too early to give up.â Kang Oh stood up. âLetâs go.â
âTo the Holiseum, and the Tower!â
Kang Oh still had some options.
âThe 100 Fighters? They went on an expedition to the east. I donât know when theyâll be back either,â Burkan said.
âUgh. Do you have any other gladiator squads?â
âI need to kill a powerful monster, so I wanted some reinforcements.â
âDo you want Darion to come with you?â
âHeâs not strong enough.â
âHmm, it must be really dangerous. Good luck.â Burkan patted his shoulder.
Kang Oh stared at him pitifully. âUm, BrotherâŚâ
âWould you mind helping me out insteadâŚâ
âNo,â Burkan said firmly.
âItâs a pain in the ass.â
âAh, câmon!â Kang Oh kept nagging at him, but he wouldnât budge. âHow stingy. Iâm the one who got the ball rolling between you and Ms. Dora!â
âIâll be sure to call you if we get married.â Burkan grinned.
âIâm fine! I wonât go!â
Kang Oh left the Holiseum without looking back.
âMr. Grano.â Kang Oh clasped Granoâs hands.
âYouâve been coming to see me quite often lately,â Grano said softly.
âIâd like to hire some skilled and trustworthy Battle Mages. Is there any way I can?â
Grano shook his head. âYou need contribution points to hire the Towerâs Battle Mages⌠But you donât have any, do you Mr. Kang Oh?â
âI canât buy their help?â
âI can pay whatever you want!â
âEven the largest merchant groups canât buy our help,â Grano said whilst maintaining his smile.
âI was just joking around. Anyhow, how do I help the Tower exactly?â
âEither complete quests that the mages here give you, or complete the Lord of the Towerâs large-scale quest.â
âIs there anything I can do to raise my contribution points right away?â
âDonating the grimoire you showed me last time will probably do it.â
âAhem. I canât do that. Iâm already using it as collateral.â
As soon as he brought up the arcane grimoire, Kang Oh thought of the Blood Witch, Helena.
âItâd be amazing if I could get her help with this⌠I guess itâs worth a shot.â
Kang Oh decided to visit the Witchâs Forest next.
âIs that so?â Grano smiled.
âItâll be hard to procure any Battle Mages. Ah, by the way, please take thisâŚâ Kang Oh pulled out Drakaâs Horn from his inventory.
âItâs a material thatâs capable of controlling the weather. I thought itâd help you with your research.â
âThatâs quite interesting. Are you selling it to me?â
âNo. You can just have it. Youâre always looking out for me, so⌠This is a gift.â
Kang Oh decided to have a friendlier relationship with Grano and by extension, the Tower, from now on.
âThe Tower is really useful.â
Thatâs why heâd donated Drakaâs Horn. He also planned on taking some quests later that would increase his contribution points.
âThank you.â Grano placed the horn into his subspace.
After that, Kang Oh and Grano chatted amicably and then parted ways.
The neutral zone, Kasten!
Kang Oh came wearing a mask over his face. He was wearing Drakaâs leather armor set, so no one recognized him.
He immediately headed for the Mercenary Association. When he entered, he saw the Chewbacca look-alike.
âIâd like to hire a mercenaryâŚâ Kang Oh took off his mask and showed his face.
âYeah, itâs me.â Gold rank mercenary and the Hero of Kasten, Kang Oh.
âHum-hum. What rank mercenary are you looking for? Or do you have a specific mercenary in mind?â âChewbaccaâ asked.
âIâd like to hire the gold rank mercenary, Bart. Tell him that itâs me.â
One of the Numbers and a gaming genius, the Crazy Highschooler, Bart! Getting his help would be huge in taking down Eclipse.
âThen, if youâll excuse me.â Kang Oh put his mask back on and left the Mercenary Association.
âOh, itâs been a while.â Bart smiled as he came over. His face was as cute as ever.
âItâs been a while.â Kang Oh nodded his head.
The two of them had met during the fight between the Black Dogs and the White Cats. Itâd been several months since!
âDo you want to fight?â Bart said abruptly.
âSure, but in exchange⌠the winner has to do the other a favor.â Kang Oh grinned.
âWhatever.â Bart shrugged his shoulders. He didnât think heâd lose.
âHoly crap.â Bart was stunned. The tip of Demon Sword Blood was touching his throat.
âI didnât see what you did⌠What did you do?â
âWhat do you mean? I used Transcendent Blade at the start of the match.â
âYou lost, right?â Kang Oh slightly shook his blade.
âYes, I lost. You really do deserve to be a part of the Numbers.â Bart nodded his head, looking refreshed.
Kang Oh withdrew his sword and said, âIâm going to hunt Lich Eclipse. Youâre coming with.â
âSounds fun.â Bart smiled.
âI got someone big.â Kang Oh smiled satisfyingly.
Kang Oh exited the intercity transfer gate, arriving in the small, quiet town of Snowprim. Heâd come here several times before, so he followed the road to the Witchâs Forest.
The door to the guildâs headquarters opened, and a cute playerâs head peeked out.
âHello, Iâm one of Asuâs friends. My name is Kang Oh.â
âAh, I see. But Ms. Asu isnât here right now.â
Kang Oh knew that too. After all, she hadnât even logged in.
âI didnât come here to see Asu today. I came to see the guildmaster.â Kang Oh smiled politely. âIf the guildmaster is in, could you please tell her that âKang Ohâ has come to see her?â
âOne moment please.â The girl was about to close the door, but then suddenly opened it again. âDid you just say Kang Oh?â
The girl looked him over. âOh my gosh, it is you!â Kang Oh, the newest member of the Numbers!
âYes, thatâs right.â
âOh my gosh, oh my gosh! Please give me a minute.â The door closed. Then, he heard her rushing away from behind the door.
Kang Oh was able to have a private meeting with the Blood Witch and Witch of Annihilation, Helena.
âCongratulations. You joined the Numbers,â she said formally. The red haired woman wore mageâs robes and round glasses.
âSo what did you come here for? Did you⌠manage to find the third illusion grimoire?â Helena asked.
âNo, thatâs not why I came. I came with an offer.â
âDo you know of Lich Eclipse?â
âIâm going to hunt him. Iâm in the middle of recruiting some people.â
âI know what youâre asking of me. You want us to work together to take him down.â
âEclipse, huh⌠Itâs quite an enticing offer. I heard that he has several rare grimoires in his possession. So⌠whatâs your team look like as of now?â
âJust two people thus far. Me and Bart.â
âJust two. But the two of you are Numbers⌠Can I get back to you?â
âOf course. You can just let me know through Asu.â
âAlright, Iâll do that.â
After that, Kang Oh waited for Helenaâs reply. Eventually, he got a message back!
â The guildmaster asked me to give you a message.
Gulp. Kang Oh swallowed as he messaged her back.
â Her answer is âYesâ!
