âI have one of two keys required to open the door to the underground labyrinth. You already have a demon sword in your possession, so you should be qualified to wield Grandeâs sword as well,â Shula said.
âPlease give me the key.â
Kang Oh held out his hands together.
âIâd like to ask you a few questions before I do.â
âGo ahead.â
âWhat do you want to do with Grandeâs sword?â
âThatâs obviouslyâŠâ
He wanted to become stronger than any other, like during his time in Warlord. Of course, he wanted to make a ton of money too.
But he couldnât afford to reveal his true intentions. That wouldnât fly with Shula, as itâd make him seem materialistic.
âI actually have a good excuse.â
âHave you ever heard of one who protects the continent from the shadows?â Kang Oh asked.
âAre you referring to the guardian of the continent?â
âYes. I am the successor to Demonic Swordsman Valan, who is the current guardian of the continent.â
âYouâre Valanâs successor, the very same Valan that defeated Yakon?â
Shula looked shocked.
âAs I thought, he does know who he is.â
When heâd first passed the Trial of the Demon Sword, heâd seen a recording of Valanâs life story.
It was there that he saw Valan defeat the gigantic raid boss, Yakon, in the Great Forest.
So he assumed that Shula was aware of him. Heâd been proven right.
âI officially became his successor not too long ago. I intend to protect the continent with Lord Grandeâs sword,â Kang Oh said, staring directly into Shulaâs eyes.
He was truly Valanâs successor, and he did intend to occasionally go out and defeat the monsters that threatened the continent.
Kang Oh also felt as though Valan would drag him around and force him to do his job as his successor.
Thus, his eyes didnât waver in the least. There was no reason for any hesitation whatsoever.
âI see.â
Shula nodded his head.
âNow can you give me the key?â
âI have one more question.â
âOnly one more.â
âItâs to my understanding that if you cannot properly control the demon that resides within your sword, then it can escape from the sword.â
Shula was absolutely right.
That was the risk of wielding the demon sword. Though it was a risk worth taking when considering the demon swordâs unbelievable attack power.
âYouâre right.â
âAre you willing to take that risk and assume responsibility for what happens after?â
Kang Oh suddenly drew his demon sword; the jet-black blade was bewitching for any who looked upon it.
âIf I wasnât willing, then I wouldnât be able to wield this sword,â Kang Oh firmly said.
âAlright. Iâll give you the key.â
Shula fiddled with his circlet, causing the eye ornament to open. Out came a bead.
âThis is proof that the Nuwak Tribe have acknowledged you.â
Kang Oh accepted the bead and then examined it.
The bead was called the Nuwak Tribeâs Token. It was a black bead that emanated green light.
âIt looks like itâll fit into one of the holes.â
Kang Oh placed the bead into his inventory.
âWhere is the other key?â
âThe Nedav Tribe keeps the other one.â
âThe Nedav Tribe?â
Kang Oh glanced at Anracoum, seemingly saying âDo you know who they are?â.
âThe Nedav Tribe is the most hostile tribe in the Great Forest. Itâs also considered a powerful tribe. Their village resides in the east,â Anracoum said.
âHoo, the east, huh. By the time weâre done, weâll have gone through every region.â
âHowever⊠The Nedav Tribe is unlikely to accept outsiders. Of course, that includes me as well, as Iâm a part of another tribe,â Anracoum said concernedly.
âThatâs what he says.â
Kang Oh stared at Shula. âDo you have any advice for us?â
âThe Nedav Tribe respects the strong. Show them how powerful you are.â
âIâm confident in my strength.â
Kang Oh grinned.
âIt seems like youâre done here, so be on your way.â
âUnderstood.â
Kang Ohâs party stood up.
âThen, take care,â Kang Oh said goodbye, and then descended the tower.
âExcuse me, you see that place with the lights? Thatâs the inn,â Sui said.
Sheâd come outside to see them off and had pointed at one side of the village.
âThank you very much.â
âGoodbye.â
Kang Oh looked up at the night sky. The night was dark, so much so that the stars couldnât be seen.
âThen letâs end it here. Weâll go to the Nedav Village tomorrow.â
âOk!â
* * *
Once the sun rose, Kang Ohâs party left the Nuwak Village.
Anracoum led them through the safest route.
Thus, they arrived at the Nedav Village by around midday, fighting as little as possible.
âDoesnât it seem kind of warlike?â Eder said.
Like he said, there were ten people patrolling the entrance to the Nedav Village.
âItâs too much, isnât it?â Sephiro asked.
âThatâs just how the Nedav Tribe are,â Anracoum said.
âLetâs head over.â
Kang Oh led.
Once they approached the village, the guards suddenly aimed their weapons at them.
âHalt!â a middle-aged guard yelled, appearing to be the leader of the group.
âHello.â
Kang Oh smiled politely.
âLeave, Outsider!â
But it didnât work at all.
âAs expected, theyâre not people you can talk your way out of.â
Heâd somewhat expected this.
If thatâs the case, thenâŠ
âI heard that the Nedav were the strongest tribe within the Great Forest,â Kang Oh yelled.
âThatâs right. Weâre the bravest tribe here!â the middle-aged man yelled.
His voice was filled with pride.
âAnd itâs to my understanding that your tribe respects strength.â
âThatâs right!â
âWhoever is strongest over there, come forward. Letâs go a round!â Kang Oh yelled confidently.
âFine by me!â
The middle-aged man stepped forward. He was apparently the strongest one there.
Kang Oh drew his sword and assumed a battle position. The middle-aged man pointed his sword at him.
The air was tense between them.
âIâm Kang Oh!â
âI am a warrior of the Nedav Tribe, Karadun!â
Once theyâd finished with the introductions, Karadun attacked.
His sword came for Kang Ohâs heart!
Kang Oh chose to parry it, rather than dodge.
Clang!
The two swords clashed, resounding with a metallic âclangâ.
ThenâŠ
Kang Oh quickly rushed at Karadun and swung upwards.
Whoosh!
A jet-black wave surged from his blade.
Darkness Strike!
âUgh!â
Karadun couldnât afford to block the Darkness Strike. So instead, he retreated, dodging the blow.
Then, Kang Oh dashed forward and swung downwards.
Whoosh!
His sword cleaved through the air, and descended upon Karadunâs head like lightning!
Karadun placed his sword sideways, protecting himself.
Clang!
Karadun shook from the immense force behind Kang Ohâs strike.
âUgh!â
He gritted his teeth and tried to withstand Kang Ohâs attack no matter what.
HoweverâŠ!
Soon, the tip of Kang Ohâs sword was pointed at Karadunâs Adamâs apple. Kang Oh hadnât missed the weak spot that Hyper Intuition had pointed out.
âUgh, I lost. I acknowledge how powerful you are.â
Karadun gracefully accepted his loss.
âIt was a good fight.â
Kang Oh withdrew his sword.
âIâd like to meet your chieftain.â
âThe chieftain will surely want to meet someone as powerful as you. Follow me.â
Kang Ohâs party followed Karadun into the Nedav Village. It didnât take long for them to establish a meeting with the chieftain.
âHe said heâd only see you.â
Karadun pointed at Kang Oh.
âGot it.â
A short while laterâŠ
Kang Oh had a private meeting with the Nedav Tribeâs chieftain.
âIâm Aman.â
The chieftain was quite young. He was 30 years old at best; he had a strong build and was ruggedly handsome.
Like a young, gallant lion, his body seemed to exude a sort of dignity and vigor.
âMy name is Kang Oh.â
âSo youâre the one who easily defeated Karadun, huh?â
âThatâs right,â Kang Oh said confidently.
âWhat business do you have with me?â
âI came for the key that opens the Parmarl Underground Labyrinth.â
âFor what?â
âI came to inherit Grande Loxiaâs sword.â
âWith just that level of skill?â
Aman snorted.
Kang Oh wasnât angered by Amanâs comments; rather, he acted more confidently than before.
âIâm a Demonic Swordsman, allowing me to wield swords like Grandeâs! Iâm skilled enough, since I already wield a demon sword myself.â
âFine. Iâll test your ability myself.â
âAs you wish.â
Kang Oh was confident.
Aman stood up and grabbed the greatsword that hung on the wall.
âFollow me.â
âAlright.â
* * *
The chieftain led him to the center of the village, which reminded him of a coliseum.
This âcoliseumâ was called the Great Tourney Hall.
âFight me. Show me your skill,â Aman said, resting his sword on his shoulder.
âDonât complain when you lose.â
Kang Oh drew his sword.
âWarriors of the Nedav Tribe never complain,â Aman said firmly.
ThenâŠ
The air was tense between the two. Kang Oh and Aman stared at each other, and their eyes became fierce.
âLetâs see here.â
Kang Oh observed Aman.
Aman was more than 2 meters tall. His stance gave off the feeling that he was relaxed, as one who was used to being stronger than others.
Though he seemed to carelessly rest his sword on his shoulder, there were no openings that Kang Oh could exploit.
âHeâs strong.â
Kang Oh could tell even without fighting him. Aman was definitely strong!
âIâll only know how strong he is after fighting him. Letâs start smallâŠâ
Kang Oh quickly threw a dagger at him.
Swoosh.
The dagger flew towards Aman!
Aman dodged the dagger by slightly tilting his head.
Then, Aman gestured for him to attack head-on. He was clearly saying, âStop wasting time and attack.â.
âAs you wish.â
Kang Oh grinned and took step after step towards Aman.
The air became tenser the closer they became. When they were close enough for their swords to touch, the tension reached its apex.
ThenâŠ
Kang Oh taunted him this time, copying Amanâs actions to the letter.
âCheeky bastard!â
Aman drew his sword and attacked.
Whoosh!
His sword cleaved through the air, emitting a heavy âwhooshâ! The attack was both weighty and quick.
Kang Oh immediately swung his sword too.
Clang!
Demon sword and greatsword clashed!
Kang Oh was the one forced back. His hands tingled from the power behind Amanâs attack.
Aman kicked off the floor, and rushed towards the pushed back Kang Oh.
âDie!â
Amanâs face twisted wickedly as he swung downwards, his blade glimmering with red energy.
Behead!
Aman used his main skill.
Danger, danger!
Kang Oh felt an intense chill wash over him, signaling how dangerous Amanâs attack was.
âLetâs get out of the way first.â
Kang Oh tilted his body to the side, and dodged Amanâs attack by a hairâs breadth.
Boom!
Amanâs sword struck the floor, a red line following the path of his sword.
