Worried that Hai Xiu was still troubled by Hai Haowei, Feng Fei teased him throughout the meal. In response, Hai Xiu had a smile on his face the entire night, even blushing a couple times due to a few ambiguous and indecent jokes.
This allowed Feng Fei to relax his worries a little, and after dinner the two sat in the living room doing homework while watching TV. For half an hour, Feng Fei attempted to start writing while watching television. In the meantime, Hai Xiu finished half of a practice exam distractedly before glancing at Feng Fei.
“Do you want……to eat any fruit? Should I wash the apples that I bought today?” Hai Xiu asked.
“Anything is fine.” Without an objection, Feng Fei continued to watch TV.
Hai Xiu let out a quiet sigh of relief and put away his homework. Carefully, he got out of his chair, passed the television, and slowly crept upstairs.
As a commercial interrupted the TV show that had been on previously, Feng Fei turned his head in order to peek at Hai Xiu. However, before he could speak, Hai Xiu hurriedly cut in and said, “I, I’m….I’m going to go upstairs first. I’ll wash the apples a little later.”
Glancing at the cup in Hai Xiu’s hand, Feng Fei opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Hai Xiu once again.
“I’m….I’m just a little thirsty.” Hai Xiu explained. “Would–would you like some water too?”
With a smile, Feng Fei shook his head calmly and lowered his head in order to take another look at the mock exam which hadn’t been touched in a while. Hai Xiu let out a sigh of relief and quickly headed upstairs.
Feng Fei irritably pushed away the mock exam in front of him, feeling helpless inwardly. So much time had already passed, yet Hai Xiu was still secretly taking his medication.
Though the medication had long been switched out with something that would not negatively affect his health, Hai Xiu was still taking pills every morning and evening. The knot that trapped Hai Xiu’s heart had not yet unraveled, and instead he believed the pills were the only reason that he could be a normal person.
Multiple times, Feng Fei had been tempted to tell Hai Xiu about the swap so he wasn’t so dependent on the medication, but Hai Xiu’s illness was a taboo topic for Hai Xiu, especially when Feng Fei was involved. He didn’t want Feng Fei to know anything about it.
Though Feng Fei understood Hai Xiu’s mindset of not wanting his boyfriend to know about his mental illness, he wished that Hai Xiu would feel comfortable enough with him to be more honest, especially as it would allow Hai Xiu to relax more.
Feng Fei thought for a moment before getting up abruptly in order to follow Hai Xiu upstairs.
In the bedroom, Hai Xiu opened a low cabinet containing his underwear and pulled out two bottles of medication from the very back. He felt like Feng Fei had just realized something and was a little scared. Nervously trembling, he spilled more than half of the water in the glass. Hai Xiu was afraid that he had already spent too much time away and that Feng Fei would notice. Without the time to care, Hai Xiu quickly took the two pills and gulped some water to wash it down.
Though Hai Xiu felt extremely relieved after putting the pills in his mouth, because he had attempted to swallow too quickly, Hai Xiu began choking a little. However, he didn’t dare make a single sound and suppressed his voice, only coughing quietly twice. As Hai Xiu carefully stuffed the bottles back into their hiding place and closed the cabinet door, from the bedroom doorway, a voice asked, “What are you doing?”
Hai Xiu’s brain blanked and his legs nearly gave out.
As Feng Fei’s thoughts were about to fall out of his lips, he saw the state that Hai Xiu was in and decided to swallow his words back down.
Subconsciously, Feng Fei looked up at the doorway then the ceiling before rubbing his eyebrows and changing the subject. “Weren’t you going to rinse some apples?”
Hai Xiu got up embarrassed and smiled at Feng Fei in an attempt to appease him. “I’ll go right now! I’ll peel the apples and cut them into small pieces for you, okay?”
Feng Fei sighed inwardly.
Â
Feng Fei picked up a piece of apple and put it in his mouth. With a crunch, he innocently said, “Why are you looking at me like that? Didn’t you ask me that question yourself? All I did was answer you.”Â
Â
Hai Xiu rubbed his red ears and continued cutting the apples. He would cut a piece and Feng Fei would eat a piece. A long time after, Hai Xiu said in a small voice, “You….you really only like to hear that?”
Â
Feng Fei laughed loudly and hugged Hai Xiu with a smile. “Ai, I really….how are you so adorable….”
Â
Hai Xiu finally realized that Feng Fei was just teasing him, but he was not angry. He whispered, “I, I just want to make you happy….”
Â
“I know.” Feng Fei swallowed the apple that was in his mouth. “Don’t worry about it. You don’t need to do anything as long as you stay by my side obediently. Whenever I see you happy, I feel happy as well….”
Â
Hai Xiu nodded anxiously. “Yeah, yeah, I….I feel the same. When you’re happy, I also feel really happy. Not because of anything else, but just because you’re happy.”
Â
Feng Fei was not able to resist and was overwhelmed by Hai Xiu’s sweetness once again. He snatched the fruit knife out of Hai Xiu’s hand and set it aside before pressing Hai Xiu against the wall to kiss him fiercely.
