I followed the voices to look out the window and saw the shadow of an ocean liner in the fog not far away. There was red smoke puffing out from the top of the shipās funnel, which was a signal for help. The ship probably had suffered damage by the stormās attack.
A sailor shouted, āThe lifeboat is rowing over here. Letās release the rope down!ā
āBut Doctor Sakarol had repeatedly told us not to delay our journey. She hasnāt woken up yet, so why donāt you wait for me to go ask her?ā another person inquired.
āDonāt, you fool. Weāre talking about a dozen people here! A heartless woman like her will never let them get on board!ā
I couldnāt agree more with this. I knocked on the cabin door and said, āHey, buddy, while the woman is still asleep, take this advantage and save those people. I support you guys!ā
āUnderstood, Mr. Desharow!ā a sailor immediately replied.
Soon after, I heard the sounds of constant cries for help approaching closer to our ship. Then the voices on the deck increased and overflowed with weeping, thanking, and praying. I suddenly thought back to the seafaring accident I had encountered when I was a childāthe moment my parents had seen me be well and alive, they had been just as emotional as these people who were just given another chance at life.
But the deceased ones could only bid farewell to their loved ones as they were buried somewhere in the vast expense sheet of ocean water. They werenāt like these fortunate people who happened to encounter us, just like my grandfather and several of my uncles.
I suddenly had this courageous urge to go out and take a look, and even the idea of pouring hot tea for these people seemed good too. But it was obvious that Agares had no desire to let me leave. The second I moved my leg, he pinned it back to where it originally was by his hand, and his fishtail intruded into the gap of my legs, trapping my entire body beneath him.

Right away, an ill premonition crept into my heart. What could make this fierce merman feel so uneasy?
āDonāt⦠go outā¦ā Agares pressed against the door, as his eyes sharpened. āSome thingā¦ā¦ā
Feeling perplexed, I followed him to turn my head and looked through the narrow crack between the door and wall leading to the deck. My eyes happened to fall on a man with a crooked back. It seemed like he was just an ordinary old man, but when I moved my eyes to his hand hidden under his overcoat, I suddenly noticed something strange.
I became shocked!
The hand covered by the bottom of his coat was clearly holding onto a gun!
Why would an old man who had just gotten into a shipwreck have the need to grab a gun?! Unless these groups of people areā¦
I suddenly recalled the frightening news that had been reported by others in the newspaper. The way some ships encountered terrorist attacks was similar to what we were experiencing right now! Instantly, cold sweat surfaced on my back.
We were deceived! 99% of them were basically pirates disguised as shipwreck survivors!
Damn it!
I got up quickly and hammered on the door in an attempt to attract the nearby sailorās attention. I wanted to try warning them secretly of this terrifying matter and to make sure they acted accordingly to the circumstances, otherwise it would only make things worse. āHey, can you come over here, Henry?ā
I whispered to the nearest sailor, peeking nervously at the fake refugees around me, hoping they wouldnāt realize that I had found out their identity.
āMr. Desharow?ā
Puzzled, he approached me, but just at this frightening second, I saw an old man among them straightening up and smashing something that he was holding onto the ground. Simultaneously, as I let out a cry of shock, a wide expanse of white smoke rose from the ground, and soon all the figures on the deck disappeared among it. A pungent smell seeped through the door and assaulted my face. Right away, Agares pulled me away from the door and dumped me onto the bed. It was still too late, as my eyes were burned, stinging my eyes to the point where tears were forced to flow out.
āFUCK! Itās a gas bomb!ā
I recklessly rubbed my eyes as my heart pounded wildly, knowing that things were far from good right now. Possibly, the people outside this door had already been attacked. I sat up nervously on the bed, however, Agares grabbed my wrist, pressed his lips gently against my burning eyelids, and gave them a lick with his stretched-out tongue.
I realized that he was trying to alleviate the irritation caused by the gas that got on my eyes. Even though his natural, intimate action made me feel extremely embarrassed, under such imminent danger, I decided to endure it. So I cooperated with him, letting him press my head onto the pillow and continue to lick my eyelids.
āPound, pound, poundāāā
The door was abruptly kicked at, creating several earthquake-like sounds. Then the deafening sound of bullets fired from a machine gun hitting the metal deck near the cabin was heard. I was shocked by the sound of gunshots and covered my ears immediately. However, there was still a buzzing sound remaining in my brain, creating a splitting headache. Agares looked startled and thus reached out his hand and pulled my head into his embrace. Every inch of his muscles tightened like a bowstring, as he held half of my body upright in his arms. His throat released a curse that sounded like a low hum.
āThe person inside, quickly come out! Iām giving you 10 seconds. Iām counting to 10 seconds, and if thereās even an extra second, haha, thereāll be one more of these stupid donkeys outside here that will be going to see God!ā
The rough voice of a man sounded through the door, and there was even the smell of gas and smoke slipping in through the slit and into the little cabin I was in.
I instantly pushed Agares away and clenched my fist. I was totally convinced that he wasnāt just joking around because armed pirates like them were fugitives. There was nothing they wouldnāt do. What I could do now was obediently go out and comply with their orders, or else after 10 seconds, those well-intentioned sailors would be thrown into the sea to feed the fish! Although I never thought that the lifeboat would contain disguised pirates, I was still to be blamed for this!
āAgares, if you are smart enough, donāt go out.ā
Having said that, I quickly grabbed my coat and wore it before immediately jumping off the bed. However, I tripped onto Agaresās tail, which he swept over before I could even get anywhere close to the door. I ended up falling backwards into his strong arms, where my waist was tightened by the bewildering force of the iron-like embrace. My head was firmly fastened onto his chest, and a gloomy shadow cast from above, caging me in. Those narrow and resonant eyes pierced down at me in menacingly way.

Merfolks donāt have names because they call for each other using ultrasonic waves, which cannot be translated into the human language. The real name for this merman began when Desharow stupidly and carelessly named him after the word āAgaresā the first time ā¦. which is why this novel is called Desharow Merman: To belong to you, to be named by you.

Hello Hello, Translator Here!
My current editor Rega, will be going on a 3-4 month hiatus as she is busy with her internship( goodluck to her!) but thankfully I manage to find a new Editor. Please Welcome Evan. She is also currently editing Holding onto My Man, which is also on CG. Please support her there too!
Lastly, I got a Co-translator. Her name is Jade, and she is quite a cheerful one. She is quite new to translating and Desharow will be her first project. Thankfully sheās fluent in Chinese, but I will still guide her through the firstĀ few chapters until she get the hang of it. Please take good care of her!
