Yun Xian had already seen Jiang Ying in the restaurant.

She was dressed up beautifully with a strange man.

At first, Yun Xian thought it was a blind date. But after observing for a while, he thought that they looked like they knew each other from a long time ago.

Li Zhicheng, who was sitting across from him, was eating with great pleasure. Meanwhile, Yun Xian was preoccupied and didn’t have an appetite.

His head was down, but he looked up for a second. The atmosphere at the table was hostile suddenly.

Yun Xian noticed something was wrong. Before he got up, he saw from a distance that Jiang Ying slapped the other person’s face.

His heart sank, he quickened his pace and hurried across the place to her side.

When he was protecting her in his arms, Yun Xian was secretly relieved.

He didn’t know how to react to her baring her fangs and wanting to fight.

Once they were out of the restaurant, Jiang Ying explained her old grudges with that man in a few words on the steps. Her tone was flat, as if she were telling someone else’s story.

No matter how indifferent she acted, Yun Xian still heard her protest.

Unable to think of any way to comfort her, he reached out and rubbed her head.

That day, Jiang Ying smoked a cigarette in front of him.

Yun Xian remembered the smell of the smoke. Strawberries mixed with oranges.

Jiang Ying held the cigarette between her fingers and quietly smoked.

Yun Xian’s eyes landed on her lips.

The white cigarette was moist between her lips and had teeth marks.

The smoke swirled and dispersed. Her features went between vague and clear in the smoke.

Yun Xian accompanied her as she finished a cigarette without saying anything.

An idea that randomly sprang up was held back by him.

In the end, he clenched his fists, held his breath, and forced himself to calm down.

It was the first time he wanted to kiss her.

Yun Xian was unwilling at first to accompany Jiang Ying to Shanghai to attend her ex’s wedding.

He didn’t understand Jiang Ying’s thoughts. Was he an ambiguous boyfriend in her eyes, or was he just a man with a good personality for her to use as a tool?

So when Jiang Ying asked him for a favor, Yun Xian’s first reaction was to refuse.

Ambiguity was like finding a flower in the fog. It was a paradox. A struggle between figuring out his feelings and hiding it, interweaved with going out of control and restraint.

But it was not that ambiguous.

Yun Xian was rarely so anxious. He was always calm and composed.

He held the small iron box in his hand, and he opened and closed it. On second thought, if he refused, would Jiang Ying turn around and find another man?

So he said “okay” and found an excuse for himself by “returning the favor”.

Perhaps more accurately, ambiguity was a gamble.

On the day of the wedding ceremony, Yun Xian took a glance at the wedding invitation when Jiang Ying had to show it to enter the venue.

It said “We sincerely invite Miss Jiang Ying and her partner, Mr. Yun”.

The fog around his heart dispersed. Yun Xian coughed and turned his head to secretly smile.

He didn’t plan on making a confession, but he bought the perfumes a long time ago and always wanted to give it to her. There was no reasonable explanation for it.

On the double deck bus, Yun Xian’s kiss to Jiang Ying was a last minute decision from a long time plan.

He had wanted to kiss her a long time ago.

Humans needed intimacy. They wanted to hug and kiss the person they love. This was an instinct.

So when everything was just right, he caressed Jiang Ying’s cheek and kissed her on the lips.

The moon was between the clouds. Their eyes were filled with the other, and the rate of their heartbeats gradually converged.

His boat swayed and anchored in a clear heart lake.

Yun Xian finally found his home.

“Lost his way, abandoned the mundane world, traveled the universe, took a risk for love, and allowed his soul to embrace the clouds.”

——After meeting Jiang Ying, Yun Xian had a new meaning for Cloudside.

Epilogue

Yun Xian’s insomnia had improved a lot. Although he still slept late, he no longer needed to use drugs to force himself to sleep.

Tonight, he chose a paper book to read before bed. A night light was on at the headboard. He enjoyed the peaceful time before bed quietly.

Jiang Ying had to get up early tomorrow to go to work. She had fallen asleep beside him.

When he turned the page and paused, Yun Xian would glance at Jiang Ying. She was on her side and breathing deeply. Her cheek flesh pushing the pillow. It looked round and looked incredibly cute.

He couldn’t help himself and watched her for a while before returning his attention to the book in his hand.

The book was taken from Jiang Ying’s bookshelf. In Albert Camus’s1 essay, “Summer”, the famous quote “In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer” came from here.

Yun Xian was not very interested in literary works. He just wanted to use printed words to help him get drowsy.

After reading four or five pages, Jiang Ying suddenly shuddered. People often make this involuntary reaction when they go into deep sleep. It was called a sleep tic in medicine and was a normal physiological phenomenon.

Jiang Ying murmured something vaguely.

Yun Xian put down the book in his hand. He reached up and turned off the lamp. When he turned over, he held Jiang Ying in his arms.

“It’s all right. Go to sleep.”

Maybe Jiang Ying smelled Yun Xian’s familiar smell because she hugged him tighter and buried herself deeper into his arms.

Yun Xian kissed her on the forehead and said softly, “Good night.”

Then he added something he had just read, “My invincible summer.”

After saying that, he also smiled. It was corny. Fortunately, Jiang Ying didn’t hear it.

The night was long and the moonlight was gentle. They embraced each other and fell asleep. They slept well that night until the morning light arrived.
