Chapter 29 of 100
Chapter 29: You Must Be S-Class
5 min read1,225 words
Fangdog was caught off guard by the sudden ball and only reacted when it was close to him.
Fortunately, the ball at the first speed setting wasn't fast, and Fangdog lifted his left front and hind legs, allowing the ball to pass underneath him smoothly.
Two baseball pitching machines fired simultaneously, with their nozzles occasionally turning to change the direction of the balls.
After about a minute of dodging, Fangdog became more accustomed to the trajectory of the balls, and his expression became more relaxed. He started to be playful, dodging the balls with slight movements just as they were about to touch him.
Jiaosan watched with great satisfaction; such dodging required a certain level of reaction speed and evasion skills.
However, Jiaosan's intention in bringing Fangdog here today was not to practice dodging skills. After seeing that Fangdog had no problem with the first speed setting, she got up and increased the speed of both pitching machines to the second setting.
The ball at the first speed setting was approximately 3m/s, while the second setting was 5m/s.
The room was only about ten meters long, so Fangdog had to dodge two balls coming from different directions every three seconds or so.
At the second speed setting, Fangdog appeared less agile. As soon as he dodged one ball, another would be fired at him.
With such a dense firing rate, Fangdog inevitably got hit by a few balls.
Baseballs can be either hard or soft. These indoor training baseballs were soft, made of rubber and hollow, so they didn't hurt when they hit him.
In about a minute, Fangdog was hit by the balls five times.
At this point, Jiaosan pressed the red button beside her, and the baseball pitching machines stopped.
"Fang?"
Fangdog tilted his head in confusion, looking at his tamer.
Why did it stop? He wasn't done playing yet.
Jiaosan squatted down beside Fangdog, unfastened the weight ring on his right front leg, and smiled. "We didn't come here to play. I came to see how your training has been going and to test your speed limit."
"Fang!"
Hearing this, Fangdog used his hind legs to stand up and patted his chest with his newly freed right front leg.
He was ready to show his tamer what he could do!
Seeing Fangdog's enthusiastic demeanor, Jiaosan couldn't help but pat his head and said, "Good luck."
Fangdog felt a surge of excitement. He ran to Jiaosan's backpack, rummaged through it, and after some hesitation, chose a triangular green sunglasses to wear.
"Fang!"
Fangdog returned to his original position and nodded solemnly at Jiaosan.
Seeing this, Jiaosan knew Fangdog was about to show his true skills.
"Good luck," Jiaosan encouraged again, then went to the pitching machines and set them to the second speed setting.
With the weight ring removed, Fangdog's speed was on a whole new level. The balls at the second speed setting posed no real threat to him, and he dodged them easily.
After two minutes, Jiaosan increased the speed of the pitching machines to the third setting.
At the third setting, the speed of the balls doubled to 10m/s.
At 10m/s, Fangdog managed to avoid every single ball.
Although Jiaosan had a good idea of Fangdog's progress, seeing it with her own eyes still filled her with a sense of pride.
After two more minutes, Jiaosan increased the speed of the pitching machines by another setting.
Fourth setting.
The speed increased from 10m/s to 20m/s.
Fangdog was caught off guard at the fourth setting, and the first ball hit him, followed by the second and third.
It seemed that Fangdog's reaction speed limit was around 10-15m/s.
Jiaosan considered turning off the pitching machines.
"Fang!" Fangdog exclaimed.
Don't turn it off! He could still do it!
Jiaosan was surprised that Fangdog had noticed her actions even under the continuous attack of the balls.
Since Fangdog chose to continue, Jiaosan didn't stop him. If she didn't let him try again now, he would probably be upset and wouldn't eat well.
Fangdog refocused on the balls. He just wasn't prepared for the sudden increase in speed!
After so many days of training, how could he be defeated so quickly by these balls!
Jiaosan was surprised to find that Fangdog, who had been hit by every ball at first, quickly improved.
From being hit by every ball at the beginning, to being hit by one out of every three balls, and finally, one out of every ten balls.
His progress was astonishing!
Jiaosan couldn't help but marvel at how hardworking and talented her Fangdog was.
After 30 minutes, Fangdog had improved to the point where he was only hit by one out of every 45 balls.
Fangdog didn't complain about being tired, so Jiaosan didn't stop the pitching machines.
Originally, she planned to just test his speed today without making him too tired.
After all, if he trained as usual, he would be sore the next day and wouldn't be in the best mental state.
The next day was June 10th, the special admission exam for Sacred Water High School. Jiaosan wanted Fangdog to rest well today, and the test was just to get a sense of his abilities.
But Fangdog wasn't just testing his speed; he was training.
If this continued, he wouldn't be in his best state tomorrow.
Jiaosan hesitated about whether to call it a stop.
At that moment, another Fangdog identical to the first one appeared on Fangdog's left side!
Jiaosan stood there in shock, rubbing her eyes to make sure she wasn't hallucinating.
This unnatural phenomenon could only be a skill!
She immediately entered the Beast Tamer Codex.
[Name: Fangdog]
[Attribute: Fire]
[Level: Beginner (133/1000) +]
[Skills: Bite (Beginner 74/100) +, Tackle (Proficient 198/500) +, Fire Fang (Proficient 188/500) +, Ember (Proficient 232/500) +, Shadow Clone (Beginner 2/100) +]
[Points: 55]
The training over the past few days had improved all of Fangdog's stats except for Bite.
Jiaosan checked this every night before going to bed.
Now, the data clearly showed a new skill that wasn't there last night—Shadow Clone.
Jiaosan was astonished. Shadow Clone was a mid-level skill, the same level as Fire Fang.
It had only been about 10 days since Fangdog learned Ember, and now he had learned another skill, and it was a mid-level one!
Normally, learning a skill is a long process that requires appropriate guidance and training.
Many new tamer trainers, not knowing how to train the desired skills, would send their beast pets to training institutions where they could learn skills.
These training institutions are very popular in today's society. Often, teaching just one skill can make an institution stand out.
Of course, this is only true for mid-level skills and above.
Jiaosan pressed the stop button and looked at Fangdog with burning eyes.
"Fang?" Fangdog looked at the tamer in confusion when the balls stopped.
Why did it stop?
Jiaosan praised, "Fangdog, if talent could be ranked, you would definitely be S-Class."
"Fang~"
Fangdog called out, a bit embarrassed.
Why was she praising him so suddenly?
The next moment, Fangdog realized something and turned his head to the left.
"Fang!!!"
Fangdog let out a terrified cry and ran to Jiaosan at a speed faster than when he was dodging the balls, jumping into her arms.
