If I remember correctly, Iââăweă should have conquered the dungeon. We got close to the last floorââdefeated an ice dragonââand thenâŚ
Oh right, that girl should have said that us two would be able to handle ânythinâ, even if it was somethinâ unexpected, before the two of us charged into the next area. But, this placeâŚ
Did I die?
Iâve been tossed into a pitch black world where I canât hear a thinâ or feel ânythinâ âround me. The last area was an instant-death area?
ââOr wait, is that girl aâright?â
I donât mind dyinâ. Iâve been livinâ while thinkinâ that, so I got no regrets, really.
But, even if I donât care, what âbout her? Even if we mightâve entered an instant-death area, I canât believe that sheâs died.
In that case, what is she thinkinâ while lookinâ at my corpse? Ainât that seriously dangerous?
Ugh, canât I get back to life somehow? I mean, even Sir Dungeon Core shouldnât wish for the end of this world, right?
Oh shit, if I donât get back to life, that girlâs goinâ to destroy the worldââ
Just as I thought all that, a gentle light filled my sight. It had her shape. And immediately followinâ, the Ryokus emerged as lights. And at the end, I could see my own body shininâ as well.
ââŚâŚYou okay? Nothing less of someone possessing a sixth sense. Youâre a class of your own. Being able to stay so calm even without the glasses, huhâŚ?â
Her voice sounded relieved.
âNo, I panicked a bit. Iâm a normal human, you know?â
Isnât she somehowâŚletâs seeâŚyes, overestimatinâ me way too much? With that thought in mind, Iâve been repeatedly tellinâ her that Iâm a normal human.
ââHonestly! And I mean it! I do hate beinâ considered inferior by her! But, wonât she totally mistake me for some crazy superman of sorts if I donât keep tellinâ her that Iâm a normal human!?
Of course, if Iâm told to follow in her footsteps or some such, Iâll do it! But, it ainât like I can do it with a yawn all the while âkay? Itâs something I can pull off while concentratinâ all my efforts on it, you see?
Usually youâd die if your hit by magma, and youâd also die if you carelessly stepped into a poisonous swamp. Somethinâ like takinâ on an ice dragonâs breath, just to shake off the ice as if nothinâ happened is impossible for me!
ââOnce I pulled myself together, I looked âround me.
ââŚWhere are we?â I asked a very ordinary nâ reasonable question.
âWe probably entered the last area. I see, so thatâs how heâs going to play it, huhâŚ? A space of zero gravity, no sound, and no light. Is it representing space or something else altogetherâŚ? Either way, itâs very interesting,â said Indra while lookinâ extremely excited.
So even this room doesnât make her change her ways, eh? Sheâs a truly reliable partner!!
ââŚHmm? Wait, you said no sound, didnât you? How are we talkinâ then?â
âWeâre transmitting our thoughts through soundless waves. The Ryokus and I had been able to do so from the very start, but you were limited to perceiving malicious intents. However, feeling the danger of this nullifying space, youâve become able to do it as well, I guess? As I thought, youâre really incredible. Your ability to perform without any practice is quite astonishing.â
ââIâm beinâ praised by her, but somehow I feel happy and at the same time got the urge to insist that Iâm a normal humanâŚ
Suddenly an idea struck me.
âAh. âŚHave you been able to stay calm since you can ăseeă even without it beinâ bright?â
âThat plays a part, too. But, thereâs probably no setting that would go beyond this as an area above an ice and snow region. And if there is, Iâd sure love to see it.â
âŚâŚI see. Because sheâd prepared herself after beinâ unable to come up with ânythinâ followinâ this, now that we went through magma, ice, and snow, she could come to terms with this place, is what sheâs sayinâ?
âŚBut yeah, sheâs gotta be right about there beinâ nothinâ beyond this.
I mean, I thought Iâd died.
âWhat are we goinâ to do?â
The shininâ Indra pointed below when I asked.
âThe deepest floor comes after we descend ten floors, right? As far as I can see, there exist no walls, ceilings, or floors. I donât see any enemies either. All we have to do is descend. Itâs going to be a ďźťSpace Walkďź˝, I suppose,â she said happily.
âŚâŚAmazinâ. I seriously respect her. Sheâs havinâ fun in this situation?
ââThen, teach me how to have fun as well!
âWait, your sayinâ somethinâ incomprehensible âgain.â
âMy knowledge might not apply to this world. Thatâs why let me warn you: all that follows stems from my otherworld knowledge. This world, or better, this planet has gravityâŚin other words, the power causing things to fall to the ground. You, me, and many other things are being dragged down. So what would happen if that power pulling us would wane? The answer is our current situation,â explained Indra and spread both her arms.
Her appearance as she was floatinâ while shininâ brightly looked like that of a goddess.
âThe power pulling us has its limits. Umm, what do you think would happen if we suddenly jumped out of the powerâs range? The answer would be this here. Light, sound, and everything is energy. And that energy would be for naught. However, only magic elements alone canât be erased. That demon said it before. Magic elements are energy based on a concept existing outside the normal framework.â
âŚ
Sheâs gleefully explaininâ it all in detail, but sorry, none of it registers with my head.
But, I got it.
âItâs gonna be the last floor once we get down all the way to the bottom, right?â
âIndeed. This place has air, unlike ďźťSpaceďź˝. That means itâs also possible to manipulate air. Youâll be able to descend to the bottom, if you cast wind magic.â
With her bright smile, Indra truly looked like a goddess.
ââŚWhy are you shininâ?â
This light is weird as heck. Different from light magic, itâs much more frail and solemnââ
âOh? You realized? This is, you see, a new technique! This light is called ďźťChemiluminescenceďź˝. It doesnât emit any heat, and its intensity is low, but itâs extremely useful to let others know of my position in a pitch black darkness like this! I know of two luminescence methods, but I implemented this one asâŚâ
âYeah, okay, okay. I totally get that it ainât solemn.â
âŚThis girl gets really scary when she starts explaininâ while all high-strung. She always rattles down some nonsensical theories with such a rough nasal breathinâ that it makes you think itâdâve been better not to have asked. If not for that, itâd have ended at me regardinâ her as solemnâŚ
Sheâs truly and utterly a disappointment as a person!!
I spat out a sigh and snorted glumly.
âWhat? You are interested in this light, no? Sure, it doesnât have the intensity to brighten up my surroundings, but in exchange, itâs not being hot even when Iâm clad in it like this, you know? Quite amazing, isnât it?â
âYeah, itâs awesome. But, I simply got slightly devastated after havinâ to listen to your explanation that totally spoiled my admiration of it beinâ divine work.â
âItâs no divine work! As if Iâd be ever able to pull off something crazy as that! Rather, you people are doing divine works! Magic that ignores all logic and that ridiculous super-duper sixth sense of yours are the very definition of divine acts in my eyes!â
She thrust a finger at me.
âHeeâŚWell, I guess youâve got a point. Your always talkinâ âbout all this tedious, small stuff, but all of it is based on theories you can comprehend while my actions are based on theories you canât comprehend, huh?â
Sheâs right, though. I donât have a clue why we can use magic by just chantinâ a spell. I donât understand, but since it works either way, I havenât given it much thought.
âThere even exists a reason for the morning sun to rise in the east, and yet you can make magic explode by just chanting a spell. I donât get the principle behind that. IâŚall these developed theories arenât anything I came up with. Iâm merely putting on a face as if Iâd know the differences of the theories researched by scholars based on findings of adventurers.â
âŚâŚOh. I said something bad. It looks like I made her all depressed. I wanna console her, but my hands wonât reach.
âŚNo, she said itâd be fine if I used wind magic, didnât she?
ââŚUff,â I crashed into Indra once I cast it.
But, as expected of a superwoman. She didnât budge in the slightest even without any foothold.
ââŚEven if I understood the theories behind it, the one usinâ all of them is you, right? Iâve received all kinds of stuff from you thanks to those theories. So, donât worry and keep usinâ your knowledge as much as you want from now on. Ainât like you puttinâ ânyone on the spot ânyway.â
When I hugged and stroked her, she apparently became mellow.
