[One]
Barely a few days after school began for the senior year1, Qi Yu2 had a new desk mate. A new transfer student from Class Eight. His original desk mate had been detained by the police station because of fighting and causing serious injuries to others.
He was already 18 years old; he ought to take responsibility for his own actions.
Qi Yuâs new desk mate was named Luo Shu3. If one only looked at his name, they would think he was a quiet and reserved teenager.
The teenager beside him was lying down with his head on the table, sleeping soundly. Qi Yuâs eyes swept over the three silver ear studs on the otherâs ear and the traces of tattoo that were somewhat visible at the shirt collar.
Apart from the face, the teenagerâs most eye-catching part was his hair, silver-coloured short hair.
Apparently, this new desk mate that had just transferred over was not an easy person to deal with. This showed how strong the schoolâs âinclusivenessâ was.
Qi Yu had transferred over near the end of the junior year4.
Qi Yu, who excelled in both his conduct and studies, and caused no trouble at all, was a good student that all teachers loved.
He was in no way discontent with his current school. On the contrary, he found it very fun.
It was also him who voluntarily asked to be transferred to this ârich manâs playgroundâ, a âbad schoolâ where, apart from everyday diligent studying, anything could happen.
In the past eighteen years of his life, Qi Yuâs life had existed on a point where he was moving forward smoothly and never experienced any major ups and downs. He felt that this was really too boring.
He wanted a change, something different, hence he transferred to the school after he moved cities.
Qi Yuâs personality had been like this since young, appearing to be obedient, yet actually weird. He had always changed ideas quickly, and never considered the reasonability of a matter. His happiness was the purpose for any matter.
Even as his parents, Qi Yuâs father and mother were also unable to tell the inner feelings of their eldest child.
But they were very open parents. As long as nothing involved breaking the law and jail5, they were acceptable of their sonâs weird behaviours.
Everyone had a right to choose what kind of life they wanted to lead. Qi Yu as their son was no exception. As parents, they should not force their child to go down the path they wish for.
Ten minutes to break time, the teenager, who had been sleeping with his head down on the table and mouth slightly opened, slowly lifted his sleepy eyelids.
Upon first sight, he saw the boy beside him. His mind cleared immediately. He sat up straight and stared fiercely with his brows furrowed.
Qi Yu withdrew his gaze naturally, and continued to solve the questions that teacher had assigned with his head lowered. Subtle feelings were bubbling in his eyes; it was unsure what he was thinking about.
On the other hand, the awaken teenager turned towards the cloudless blue sky outside the window. No one saw his not-so-pale skin turning red slowly.\n\n[Two]
Outside the window, the sun was shining right above their heads, a slight breeze was blowing warm air, and the leaves of the old banyan tree beside their school building were rustling.
Luo Shu turned his head carefully, observing the top student of the cohort secretly.
In his eyes, the other had a smooth side profile and delicate facial features. Thick and dark eyelashes had a nice curve to it as its owner lowered his eyelids. A mole was placed just right, below the corner of his eye.
The existence of the mole added some alluring appeal to its owner whenever there was a movement of the eyes and brows.
Lips not too thin nor too thick, displaying a natural pink. With only one glance, Luo Shu was sure it would be very sweet and soft.
An elegant and delicate gentleman.
This was the image of Qi Yu in Luo Shuâs mind.
When Luo Shu first saw Qi Yu, it was also a hot afternoon. At that time, he had been punished to stand in the third floor corridor by his homeroom teacher for being late. Having walked to the high wall out of boredom, he saw Qi Yu at first sight.
Qi Yu was standing under the sun. His skin was so white it was almost transparent. A plain outfit of white shirt and trousers looked like exquisite high-end fashion on him.
Luo Shu had very good eyesight; he could see Qi Yuâs facial features clearly. Furthermore, he whipped out his phone with 50x zoom to see the person in detail.
His first impression of Qi Yu?
Is â
Lub-dub, lub-dub.
His heart fluttered wildly in his chest; an untameable restlessness.
Luo Shu was unsure of his sexual orientation, because he had never liked any girls since young, same goes for boys.
From the moment he saw Qi Yu, he felt that he was not male-oriented, nor female-oriented, he was specially Qi Yu-oriented.
Luo Shu liked Qi Yu, a love at first sight, hence he decided to transfer from Class Eight to Class Five. From an arts stream to a science stream, to a class with the person he liked.
Not only that, he also threatened the boy who was originally going to be Qi Yuâs new desk mate, then contentedly became his new desk mate.
Luo Shu liked Qi Yu; it grew a little more with every glance.
He wants to confess to him.
Today.
Lub-dub, lub-dub. The heart was fluttering again.
What to do? Will it succeed?\n\n[Three]
The next lesson was art, which was to be held in the art studio. The theme for this lesson was to draw your mental image of your partner.
It could be in any form, animals, plants, or anything else. Your partner would be your desk mate.
Luo Shu had sat in front of the easel for quite some time, but the hand holding on to the drawing pencil had not yet touched the paper. Because he was unsure how to draw.
Qi Yuâs image was inexpressible within a simple drawing. He was so dazzling, so out of reach, and so sinful and alluring6.
The teenager secretly glanced at the other who was dabbing paint on the palette with seriousness and waving his hands non-stop on the easel he could not see.
What would his image be like in the eyes of the boy he liked?
Luo Shu touched his face subconsciously; it should be fierceness. The gentleman and good student probably would not like a bad-boy style bad student. Furthermore, it was unknown whether he would like boys.
But Iâm rich7! Luo Shu immediately changed his thought process, to find that slightest possibility.
His vision landed quietly on Qi Yuâs watch. He recognised this watch; the market price was nearly two hundred thousand dollars. Apparently, the other was also not lacking in money. Using money to buy love was impossible.
Luo Shu suddenly became dejected like a deflated balloon.
But this was not any hinderance. This would be properly a match between both families8. There would not be any disagreements over their views on money.
It was rather not bad at all!
Luo Shu, whose mind went through countless twists and turns, lit up his eyes.
Confession and whatnot, seems like one step closer to success~\n\n[Four]
The teenagerâs observational watch was too obvious; Qi Yu had to put down the drawing pencil in his hand and looked up at the silver haired boy who was sitting lazily across him.
It had to be said, this new desk mate of his had a pair of very beautiful eyes.
His eyeball was distinctly black and white. The pupil was black and bright to the extent as if it could shine.
Seeing him look over, the teenager showed an inclination to shift his gaze, but then as if shifting his gaze would put him in the weaker spot, he frowned and stared fixedly at him.
The very image of a bad-boy that liked rolling up his sleeves to fight violently and no one dared to provoke.
This teenagerâs eyes did not show friendliness, it showed nuclear fierceness9.
This fierce, would he be a little softer if he cried?
While maintaining a normal facial expression, Qi Yuâs thoughts started going in a weird direction.
With a punch, would he cry for a long time? Probably not, after all he looks like he could fight well, probably needs a few punches, a few kicks and some weapons for him to cry⌠right?
What to do? Thinking carefully about it, suddenly want to make him cry out loud obediently.
Qi Yu was not obedient, he was weird.
He wanted to make this desk mate of not even three days cry.
In any way.\n\n[Five]
The art class ended satisfactorily.
Luo Shu realised that Qi Yu did not take his drawing away. Suppressing his excitement, he pretended to play with his phone. He had been sitting in the corner; while no one was noticing, he quickly walked over to the easel.
He wanted to know what his image was like in the mind of the boy liked. However, upon looking, it was something that made him puzzled.
A pool of water?
The water looked realistic; it was apparent that there was good foundation in art. But Luo Shu did not understand how he ended up as a pool of water. Could it be he did not want to draw at all, and was just casually killing time?
But it was alright, he secretly kept the paper and rolled it, slotting it into his already rolled up drawing.
There was no need to submit this drawing. Since Qi Yu did not want it, he would keep it; the drawing was of him anyway.
It was happily decided one-sidedly!
Luo Shu started humming a tune in his mind, walking towards the teaching building with the drawing in hand. There were two more lessons to break time, he could confess then.
Very nervous, yet anticipating.
If they dated, what could they do? Could they hold hands? Could they kiss?
Thinking of that, the tall and lean teenager walking in the student crowd raised his hand slowly to cover his face below the nose.
Covering the corners of his mouth that were upturned with silliness, his palm and covered face were slightly warm.
So warm it was dizzy.
Really shy.
But really want to kiss. He must be really sweet, as sweet as candy.
Luo Shu felt like he was lacking candy, a sweet candy named Qi Yu.\n\n[Six]
Back in the classroom.
In Qi Yuâs hands were the results of his drawing in art class. The drawing left on the easel was a drawing that he had randomly drawn after he had completed this piece.
A classmate who was playing around walked past. Qi Yu bumped into the drawing paper as he was trying to avoid him. The drawing paper fell to the floor and slowly unrolled.
On it was a cartoonish lop-eared rabbit, with a hand pulling on the rabbitâs long ear from above.
The little bunny was holding a hammer, its short tiny legs suspended in the air, crying pitifully with red eyes. The floor was filled with tears that the little bunny had cried out.
Qi Yu picked up the drawing in the midst of the classmateâs apology, rolled it up and threw it into the desk drawer. At this moment, Luo Shu came back. Their eyes met, and Luo Shu maintained the I10-am-very-annoyed face.
Under the teenagerâs fierce staring, Qi Yu smiled at him all of a sudden.
Smiling like a light breeze blew past.
Smiling till a particular teenagerâs heart fluttered.\n\n[Seven]
Qi Yu was smiling, but thinking in anticipation â
How can I bully him till he cries?
Luo Shu was looking fierce, but giggling in his mind â
Is he starting to realise that I10 am actually quite alright?\n\n\n<hr class="wp-block-separator is-style-wide">\nTable of Contents | \n
Throughout the novel, the concept of äš guÄi and ćŞ guĂ i is mentioned. Luo Shu is äš guÄi while Qi Yu is ćŞ guĂ i. äš guÄi means obedient, good [boy], cute etc. ćŞ guĂ i means weird, peculiar, bizarre etc.
For simplicity, I will be using obedient and weird for my translation. [return]
