Chapter 24
Ā
Behind me, I turned my head to look at the zombieās head as it came at me from the darkness, and I sunk the crowbar into its head.
I quickly pulled it out and slowly kicked the body as it slowly fell into the street, and threw its body on the sidewalk.
Maybe it was because the crowbar was sturdier than the original, or because it was sharper than a baseball bat, or maybe the magic penetration wasnāt as bad. Unlike the metal bat, it was possible to āslashā the zombieās head, but I didnāt dare to do that now.
At least there are survivors in the city hall and the police station, and they are likely to be out in the open, so it would raise unnecessary suspicion if the city was full of zombies with their heads cut off.
But, if I could look at the results that would come from this work that I am doing now, the fact that the zombieās head is cut in half might be a minor issue.
Since Kaede got sick, I spent a few days without leaving the home center. I was a little delayed by Kaedeās apologetic request to stay with her for a while longer, but now that sheās feeling better, I came out alone.
As for how to get Kaede to the city hall, I decided to simply use the car.
However, there were two problems. The first was whether the survivors there would accept us in the first place. I donāt mind if they donāt accept me, as long as I can leave Kaede with them. And if they do accept it, I wonder if that place is safe for Kaede.
Also, it must be a place where Kaede can not only live, but also a condition where Kaede is not treated unfairly. In this world, people may not always be able to live as they used to.
There is also a future where someday such a broken person may come to that home center. No matter how much food we prepare, we canāt just let Kaede stay at the home center.
For now, I would have to go and check the place out on my own to find out what was going on.
The second problem is very simple: the cars left in a state of panic and disarray on the road from the home center to the city hall are very disturbing. If I chose the right road, I could get through, but unfortunately there were zombies walking on the street, so I decided to reduce the number of zombies and pull over the cars blocking the road to make it easier to carry them.
It was impossible to make it look unnatural, but I cleared away the cars that were in the way and made a passable path.
Throwing the car would make a bad noise, and it would also be troublesome if the gasoline leaked or exploded at any moment, so I moved the car as quietly as possible. It was a very tedious and steady job.
I could check with the city hall first, but I was going to make contact with them when the sun came up.
When I left the Home Center, I told Kaede that I might be gone for a few days, and I brought extra food from downstairs, so it wouldnāt be a problem if I had to spend some time at City Hall. She stared at me with a face that looked like she was about to cry, but I told her it was my business and forced her to leave, so it would be a little painful if I came back late.
Anyway, I came up with the idea of doing this work in the middle of the night while traveling.
Tonight, with the moon hidden in the clouds, it was a night of total darkness, which was very convenient for this work.
āā¦..get out of my way.ā
As I was lifting the car up and pulling it onto the sidewalk, a zombie hand came at me from the side. I kicked the zombie in the stomach, and it blew up almost horizontally, engulfing many of the zombies in its direction.
Of course, I didnāt destroy their brains, so they got up again and came towards me.
I was aware of their presence, but Iā m surrounded by them.
I unloaded the car and picked up the crowbar that was between my waist belts and channeled my magic through it.
āItās a pain in the ass, but Iāll clean it up once and for all. ā¦ā¦ Come on, get your ass over here.ā
Surrounded by a dead man with no words in 360 degrees around me, I sighed.
